As the royal wedding of the year looms ever closer, speculation is still growing about which designer Kate Middleton will choose to design her dress – and though chances are none of us will taste such knowledge until the big day arrives, we always have couture designer Bruce Oldfield to keep us guessing.

Read MoreIt’s Official. Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Are Engaged
It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged! With news trucks camped outside Kensington Palace, we expected confirmation at the weekend, of what was possibly the worst kept secret. Instead however, Clarence House made the announcement today. Harry, 33 and Meghan, 36, have been in a relationship for 16 months. They first made an official public appearance together at the Invictus Games in September and became secretly engaged earlier this month in London. The wedding will be held in Spring 2018 and they’ll reside at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. So what can we expect now? Well, the couple will make an official engagement appearance this afternoon and will also take part in a broadcast interview in the evening. According to the statement issued by Clarence House, “further details about the wedding will be announced in due course”. Speaking about the pending nuptials, Prince William and Kate said, “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.” While Meghan’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, gave their blessing saying, “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.” And The Queen and Prince Philip’s official Twitter account tweeted, “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.” We’re definitely super happy here at MFL HQ. They make a lovely couple. The million dollar question now is, who will design Meghan’s dress? Exciting times!

Read MoreNew York Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler & more
New York Fashion Week has well and truly got us geared up for London Fashion Week which kicks off tomorrow! The last of the shows – from Michael Kors to Oscar de la Renta to Jenny Packham, and more – certainly didn’t let us down, as we were met with everything from red carpet Oscar-worthy ensembles to essential winter cover-ups to all else in-between. Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham look at the National Portrait Gallery was an exellent reminder of how wow-worthy the designer’s pieces can be – a thought which was only reiterated when we saw the autumn/winter 2014 collection float down the runway. Although the collection was reportedly inspired by Bianca Jagger, there were sartorial influences dating as far back as the 1930s in the collection; the glittering gold dress was a particular favourite of ours, and one which we predict might appear on an awards season red carpet this year. Vera Wang, who has dressed a number of our fave A-listers including the most recent celeb bride Kaley Cuoco who went against the grain and opted for a pink wedding down, went for romance – but not as we know it. Dark romance was the theme for the designer’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, with lots of black and charcoal coloured pieces making their debut on the Big Apple catwalk. There was also an abundance of tartan – a definite AW14 trend we need to look out for over the next few weeks! Although Blake Lively and Freida Pinto were among the famous faces who sat on the front row wearing some very feminine and floral Michael Kors spring/summer 2014 pieces, the designer’s latest collection had a hint of androgyny about it. Rich, luxe fabrics were juxtaposed with casual cool tailoring, offering us a very covetable autumn/winter collection that we’ll […]
Read MorePrince George’s official Christening pics released
They might be a darn sight more formal than any of our family pictures, but as far as Royal Family portraits go, Prince George’s officially Christening pictures are definitely on the informal side of the spectrum. The pictures were taken by photographer Jason Bell in the Morning Room of Clarence House. Prince George is being held by his stunning yummy mummy Kate Middleton, and is joined in the picture below by his proud dad Prince William, as well as The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camila Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, and the Middleton clan – Michael and Carole, Pippa and James. And James’s beard, which we feel should get its own mention. As we mentioned on Wednesday, Kate Middleton wore a cream Alexander McQueen outfit that was made for her by Sarah Burton – the brains behind her wedding dress – and accessorised with a Jane Taylor hat. Her sister Pippa Middleton complemented her outfit perfectly, wearing a Suzannah ensemble in a similar shade. What do you think of the modern Royal Family portraits?
Read MoreAlexa Chung does Chanel chic at the Grand Palais in Paris
Sure Alexa Chung does dressed-down androgynous meets schoolgirl chic like no other, but she knows how to do ladylike and classy too. In fact not only does she know how to do it, but she knows how to excel in it; rock it, if you will. Take her look for the Chanel Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais in Paris, for example… Alexa took a leaf out of Jennifer Aniston’s book by opting for a short, little black dress, but unlike Jen who considers her LBD her go-to, safe outfit, this was sort of out of Alexa’s sartorial comfort zone. The ladylike lace sleeves are something we would expect from Kate Middleton (in fact it was one of the defining aspects of her wedding dress, remember?) but not from Alexa. That being said, she pulled them – and the entire look – off perfectly, and her personal style wasn’t lost either thanks to the chic but slightly messy updo and the quirky buckle sandals. And her look wouldn’t have been complete without that stunning Chanel bag draped over her shoulder! The Chungmeister got it right once again – no surprises there!

Excited for your day at the races? Why not be a great boyfriend (or hubby) and treat the lady in your life to her outfit. We know selecting an outfit for your significant other is a challenge at the best of times, let alone the races. Don’t let the strict dress code put you off – we have the perfect example of what is expect from racegoers right here, so feel free to seek as much inspiration from it as you want. This look is Royal Enclosure approved; if you can get in there (it has the strictest dress code of all the enclosures!) then you’ll get in anywhere! 1. Coast Mycah dress. Ok so like the majority of most outfits, the dress is one of the most important aspects so you want to get it right. Luckily, this dress is not only completely gorgeous, but it adheres to all the rules and regulations implemented in the very strict style guide. It’s a modest length, it has sleeves (strapless dresses or dresses with spaghetti straps are banned) and it’s not too in-your-face which means you can accessorise to your heart’s content! 2. John Lewis Neave structured feather hat. If you’re heading into the Royal Enclosure (lucky you!) then unfortunately fascinators aren’t allowed so she’s going to have to make do with a hat instead and pray it doesn’t fly off. This badboy from John Lewis is not only subtle it’s quite versatile too, which means she can do a Kate Middleton and recycle it for future weddings. 3. Dune Blissy striped clutch bag. She’ll want a bag big enough for all your betting slips, money (including her juicy winnings!), mobile phone and emergency lipstick, but not too big so that it distracts from your outfit. (Speaking of betting, don’t forget […]

Read MoreKeira Knightley gets married in Chanel (and possibly recycled Rodarte)
And (just as we anticipated) the bride wore Chanel! As we told you last week, Keira Knightley and her Klaxons drummer boyfriend James Righton tied the knot at the weekend, in front of just 11 guests in the South of France. Congratulations to the newlyweds! Keira toned down her bridal look for the intimate ceremony, opting to wear a knee-length pale pink strapless corset dress with a full ballet skirt, which she teamed with flat shoes, a garland in her hair, and a tweed Chanel jacket. Some people are even speculating that Keira “did a Kate Middleton” and “recycled” her wedding dress from five years ago. Take a look at the pic of Keira in Rodarte and see for yourselves… looks pretty uncanny, right? We think the blushing bride and groom looked radiant on their big day – we wish them a lifetime of happiness together! What do you think of Keira’s wedding dress? [Image]

Oooh, we love a bit of wedding dress designer gossip – we’re getting flashbacks to 2011 and the infamous “who will design Kate Middleton’s wedding dress” hoopla – and to be honest we’re getting a bit nostalgic! The latest bride-to-be at the centre of the rumour mill is Adele, as it emerged last night that the Oscar-winning singer may have enlisted the help of Jenny Packham to create her bespoke wedding gown. We’re getting goosebumps just thinking about it! “Adele has her heart set on Jenny Packham and is keen to get things under way,” reveals a ‘source’. “She is currently planning a ceremony for the end of summer or early autumn.” It makes sense for Adele to choose Jenny Packham – afar all, the designer dressed her for the all-important Oscars red carpet, and she looked absolutely divine in the black sparkly number. We’ll keep you posted with any more information as and when we get it… Do you think Jenny Packham is a good choice or should Adele pick her other go-to designer, Burberry? [Grazia]
Read MoreUpdate: Turns out Giles Deacon is NOT designing the Spice Girls’ stage outfits for the Olympics Closing Ceremony
Just a few hours ago, we (along with a plethora of other excitable fashion bloggers and publications) posted about the rumour that Giles Deacon would be designing the outfits for the Spice Girls’ performance at the Olympics Closing Ceremony based on a cryptic tweet from Victoria Beckham and a more to-the-point Facebook status update from Grace Coddington. “It is confirmed thar Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Melanie C., Emma Bunton, and Mel B. will be wearing designs by Giles Deacon at the closing ceremony, August 12th. Spice Girls will be back for one night only,” read her status. However, in a sensational twist, it’s been revealed that the designer has NOT been tasked with creating the iconic costumes. Interesting, no? So, although all five of the girls (probably) won’t be wearing a Giles Deacon original, it’s still speculated that VB will. This is turning into a bit of a “who will design Kate Middleton’s wedding dress” guessing game, but we are EXCITED! We only have a few more days to wait until everything becomes clear. Who’s your money on?

Sad news this morning… apparently the Alexander McQueen retrospective Savage Beauty (which broke several records at the New York Metropolitan of Art) won’t be coming to London after all. Pass us the Kleenexes when you’re done sobbing, please. It was rumoured that the retrospective would eventually come to a newly revamped Victoria and Albert museum – although no one knew when – but a spokesperson from the museum confirmed yesterday that it won’t be housing the exhibition at all. We have both our conspiracy theory and optimism hats on this morning and are speculating that maybe this could be one big, fat, press-gaining ploy. After all, didn’t Sarah Burton flat out deny that she would be designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress? If the rumours are true though, we are genuinely a little bit heartbroken, but we still have a glimmer of hope. Life needs a bit of optimism, doesn’t it? [Vogue] [Image]

Read More2011 in news: 10 things that shook the fashion world this year
Among the clinking glasses of endless mulled wine toasts, pre-Christmas mince pies and secret peeling of presents under the Christmas tree, there’s just one more thing left to do this year: reminisce. 2011 has been a significant year for the fashion world. Craze-inducing collaborations, a royal wedding remembered more for the dress than the extra public holiday and fashion losses so large the entire industry collectively wept. And what have we done with all that? Rounded it up, of course. Below, we bring you fashion’s best and most moments shocking of 2011. 1. The royal wedding dress April 29th will forever be marked in our minds as a date that made unparalleled fashion history. Alexander McQueen’s creative head, Sarah Burton, was spotted entering the Goring Hotel merely hours before the royal wedding took place, sparking rumours she’d designed the dress. Indeed, she was bestowed with this burdensome duty and boy, did she deliver! The exquisite appliquéd lace dress acquired Burton deserved acclaim in the fashion world, culminating in an unsurprisingly big win at the British Fashion Awards last month. A big year for Sarah Burton – an even bigger year for fashion. 2. John Galliano – Dismissal from Dior and namesake label Probably the most gulp-inducing, tear-jerking headline to emerge from the fashion world this year was the dismissal of Dior design master, John Galliano. Arrested in a Parisian cafe after allegedly assaulting and racially abusing a couple using anti-Semitic remarks, the allegations against the couture creator were all founded in court, resulting in his rapid fall though the echelons of the very industry that homed him. His immediate suspension from Dior, and later from his namesake label, sparked an emotional outcry amongst Galliano’s closest industry friends. Whilst the hunt for his replacement is said to be in its final […]

Read MoreKatie Shillingford: The Ghastly Bride in Gareth Pugh
Whilst probing for fashion news, catastrophes and gags, I came to witness something that hit me like a fashion stun gun. What I saw was probably equally as shocking: Stylist and fashion editor, Katie Shillingford’s choice of, erm, Goth inspired bridal finery. If you wanted to distort somebody’s ideal of the traditionally perfect wedding dress, this was definitely the way to go. A Gareth Pugh creation, the high-necked, floor-length gown with a layered skirt made of shredded ash-grey silk chiffon was an odd proposition for a marriage setting. Kate’s wide-brimmed, scarlet smile reminded us it was her wedding day, but the morose ash-grey hue made the gown look unhappy, and forced us to think otherwise. Matters weren’t helped with the addition of candy pink hair (yes, really!) or the awkwardly tilted stance she was photographed in. OK, so fashion’s boundary breaking nature has a newfound friend in the humble wedding dress, but Shillingford’s dress is an exception – not a monstrosity. The unexpected colour and non-conformist aesthetic makes it an oddity, but not totally unadoptable – it would probably turn heads on the catwalk. Talking of wedding dress oddities, a fair few have sprung in the past and this post wouldn’t be complete without a nod to the downfalls of these offenders against the constitution of suitable marriage gear. Katie Price outshone the most grandiose of big fat gypsy weddings when she chose a hideous £20,000 Cinderella-esque wedding gown for an inappropriately Disney themed wedding. It was all going to end in tears. And it did. Regular style maven, Gwen Stefani, got it oh so wrong on her big day, opting for a John Galliano gown that looked like she’d tiptoed through a strawberry field on the way to her wedding ceremony with Gavin Rossdale in 2002. Christina Aguilera made […]

As it stands, LVMH’s Bernard Arnault has insisted Dior is in no rush to name John Galliano’s successor – but while his candidates have suggested Riccardo Tisci, Tom Ford, Hedi Slimane, Olivier Theyskens, Nicolas Ghesquière, Alber Elbaz, Haider Ackermann and Prabal Gurung are all in the running for the top spot, the latest designer to enter the firing line is none other than McQueen director, Sarah Burton. While Riccardo Tisci may have been tipped the highest candidate to leave his current role and enter the world of Dior – even though he strongly states he’s happy at Givenchy – it now seems Ms. Burton is next in line to scoop the coveted role, though many may find this hard to believe given her complete dedication to carry on the late Alexander McQueen’s work. But apparently, Bernard Arnault is so transfixed by the royal family that if Burton has designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress – which is something the fashion house strongly deny – then her chances of being offered the job would increase dramatically, reports the Cut. Just another reason to watch the royal wedding unfold next Friday!

Take a look at our highlights from the sartorial proceedings in Paris below… Who: Alexander McQueen What: The collection, at times, maintained a softer silhouette than we’re used to from the house of McQueen, but once again Sarah Burton proved she knows what she’s doing with the label. With white tweed skirts, fur accents, opened pleats, grey separates, intricate suits, knitted fur detailing, raw chiffon frills, spray-on leather leggings, robotic bustiers, platform shoes and moulded silhouettes galore – this was yet another truly astounding collection, with McQueen’s signature style printed all over it. And the finale of wedding-esque dresses did nothing to dispel the Kate Middleton rumours. Who: Chanel What: Lagerfeld definitely celebrated International Women’s Day with his autumn/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week, and with raw silhouetted clothing making a profound impact on the catwalk, there was no denying the rough, tough and ready mood of the clothes: an abundance of boiler suits, cropped jackets, pleated trousers, tweed legwarmers, flat brogues and mannish ankle boots. Who: Louis Vuitton What: A quintessential collection of hotel uniform-inspired clothes, with patent leather jackets, sheer skirts exposing suspenders and bottom-revealing cashmere onesies completing the array of rule-breaking get-ups. Surprise appearances from Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss smoking stole the show. Who: Lanvin What: A collection of sophisticated silhouettes, with mustard and caramel draped fabric dresses aplenty.
