Uh oh – according to reports that has surfaced this morning, it doesn’t look like L’Wren Scott will be showing at London Fashion Week this season. The designer was scheduled to showcase her autumn/winter 2014 collection this Sunday during London Fashion Week, but has been forced to cancel due to “production delays in key show and couture pieces.” L’Wren Scott fans will still be able to see the new collection, as the designer has pledged to unveil it on social media. Press, editors, retailers and special guests will also be able to sneak a peek with their own eyes at her Paris showroom in March, so it’s not all bad! Are you sad to see another designer absent from LFW this season? [WWD]

7 fab Fashion Month essentials!
For some people, February is all about Valentine’s Day, but for all the budding fashionistas in the world, the month of Feb is all about fashion. New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week – all four cities which have their own distinctive and irreplaceable style! So, dressing for Fashion Month – regardless of the city or how much show-watching you’ll actually be doing – has to be done right. You need to get the dressing for the chill and dressing stylishly balance just right. We think we’ve got it sorted with our seven suggestions below; what say you? 1. Ah the great Fashion Week footwear dilemma! Do you go for sky high heels to complement your cute dress and to be the same height as the rest of the ladies and models or do you go for comfort? Nine times out of 10 we would have gone for the former, but since flat shoes are loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, we think we’re going to go for flats this season. Plus just think how warm these boots will be? 2. The bag is probably one of the most important accessories. If you’re a high fashion magazine editor, a celebrity or someone who won’t be working at Fashion Week, by all means go for an adorable little clutch bag that fits a mobile phone and extra lippie – especially if you’re being chauffeured around from show to show. But for the rest of us who have to slum it and walk to shows, a good sized bag to fit everything from iPads to chargers to make-up bags to an extra pair of flats to food (yes we all need to refuel between shows) is absolutely vital! 3. Read MoreCouture Fashion Week highlights from Elie Saab, Armani Prive and Valentino
Yet another exquisite few days in Paris for Couture Fashion Week, as Elie Saab, Armani Prive and Valentino each presented their latest collections. Elie Saab, one of the kings of the A-list red carpet, didn’t disappoint with his collection which was comprised of dresses in his signature floaty, embroidered and applique styles. Always one of the sweetest and prettiest collections to hit the catwalk season after season! We couldn’t help but envision Cate Blanchett in the majority of the Armani Prive dresses; firstly because we can imagine Cate Blanchett in pretty much everything, but also because we have the Oscars on the brain. Although there was also a lot of slick and fierce tailoring in abundance, the sparkles and more glam ensembles are definitely what got our attention. It’s awards season, we can’t help it! There’s nothing better to get us into the pre-Oscars spirit than good old Couture Fashion Week in Paris. As well as watching the models float down the Parisian runways in the finest Couture and salivating at the luxury pieces they are draped in, we can’t help but envision which of our favourite A-listers (and we really do mean A-listers – only the cream of the crop are truly worthy!) might rock the pieces on the upcoming red carpets. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior? Check! Diane Kruger in Chanel? Double check! Raf Simons went for a modern and somewhat practical theme for the Dior Couture collection; relaxed, worldly, effortless! “I was thinking about taking the theatrical out and taking it more into reality,” Raf Simons said. “As a designer, you have a responsibility to do both — to trigger her fantasy with the show, but give her the reality as well.” We think that describes the collection perfectly! Karl Lagerfeld was also going for a somewhat relaxed and comfortable theme; how else would you explain the trainers and the… are those shin pads? The classic Chanel aesthetic was still as evident as ever though, with pastel hues, the classic Chanel tweed suit, and elaborate detailing not only in the pieces themselves but in the entire show. Donatella Versace was inspired by the contemporary goddess, which definitely shone through thanks to the Grace Jones esque hoods. “A contemporary goddess: power, determination, strength, and glamour — that’s what I was thinking about,” Donatella explained. “And how this woman can show her soft side, being a Versace, because Versace is always very spectacular.” What do you think of our favourite looks from Couture Fashion Week so far? Let us know if you have any red carpet awards season predictions!

Yesterday we told you that yet another brand was leaving Milan Fashion Week as we revealed that Miu Miu will now be showcasing its new-season collections in Paris… and Giorgio Armani isn’t too happy about it. The designer has now become a board member of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion which basically aims to spice up Milan Fashion Week. “While I still believe that all Italian brands should hold their fashion shows in Italy to give due prominence to our country, as an entrepreneur I understand that certain situations, created over the years, need time to be reorganized,” reads a statement from Armani. “It seems only right, and indeed necessary, for me to send a further strong signal of commitment and confidence aimed at boosting an upswing in the vitality of Italian fashion and, at the same time, to show a sign of support for the actions undertaken by the other brand members of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion. In recent years, Milan has struggled to compete with New York, London and Paris in terms of interest (even Anna Wintour wasn’t too fussed about MFW last season, remember?) but we hope that Mr Armani’s involvement will reinvigorate Milan Fashion Week and put it right up there with the rest of its fashionable counterparts. Despite being based in Milan, Prada’s sister line Miu Miu has shown its new-season collections during Paris Fashion Week since 2006, which has always been a little bit strange. We never really questioned or disputed it though, we just kind of rolled with it. However, in a bid to distance itself from the Prada label and strengthen its structure in the French capital, many of the departments, which currently work in Italy, will be moving to Paris. We don’t know how this will affect things in the long run, but we do know that Miu Miu fragrance will be on its way in 2015 thanks to a deal with Coty Inc, so that’s pretty exciting! Prada fragrances are currently licensed with the Puig Beauty & Fashion Group, so the differentiation between the two labels is already starting. We’ll keep you posted with any new developments. [WWD]

Earlier this week we announced that Blake Lively had been named the newest brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris… and now we can finally take a look at her debut ad campaign images. As we predicted, the black and white ad campaign images above are pretty breathtaking; not that we expected any less from the gorgeous blonde actress and wife to a certain Mr Ryan Reynolds. “I am thrilled and honoured to join the incredible women who represent L’Oreal Paris,” Blake said. “From the versatile and motivational brand ambassadors, to all the women who proudly wear L’Oreal Paris each day. I grew up with the inspiration of their message, ‘We’re worth it.’ “What an important value to instill in women – that beauty is rooted in confidence. That is key. That is why I’m so proud to be a L’Oreal Paris woman.” Aww, we couldn’t have put it better ourselves. We bet the L’Oreal Paris family has welcomed her with open arms. We can’t wait to see more ads if her debut ones above are anything to go by. Simply stunning! [Marie Claire]

Did you know that New York Fashion Week was the most talked about of all four cities on those good old social networking sites this September? Oh yes, and Victoria Beckham – along with Alexander Wang and DKNY – were the top designer Twitter trends. Does that surprise you? We can never have enough VB, but we thought that as it spanned the most days and boasted and some of the biggest fashion Houses from Dior to Chanel presenting their collections, Paris Fashion Week would have walked away with that title. What do you guys think? You can check out loads of fun facts and statistics about Fashion Month in the infographic compiled by New Look above, which also contains info about celebrity appearances in all four cities, how much visitors spent, and most importantly of all, what the themes and trend highlights were. Despite all the stats though, New Look’s favourite city is our wonderful capital – London – which is why we were quite biasedly more than happy to share this information with you. Do you agree with New Look – is London the most stylish of all four cities?

London Fashion Week may be over for another season, leaving us dreaming about next summer, but it’s onto Milan and Paris! So, to keep the London style spirit alive a little bit longer, here are our highlights from the final day of fashion fun: Thomas Tait Practicality is never lost on some in the fashion world, and CSM-trained designer Thomas Tait is one who never leaves behind is original vision. Although the colours on the runway for next season have served as palate cleansers, Tait’s angelic whites were too luminous to miss. Clean, fluid dresses, tank tops boxy jackets and were crossed with carefully positioned embellishments in the form of vividly coloured panels and wisps of feathers, but the originality of his hard working aesthetic, those any- weather-tackling, utilitarian jackets was not lost. Tait fans were surely not disappointed. Ong-Oaj Paraim Another one to watch from budding pool of emerging fashion talent this season, we loved Ong-Oaj Pairam’s debut offerings – inspired by Gertie, from Stephen Spielberg’s blockbuster, E.T. – at Fashion Scout. Vague imprints of yolk-centred flowers were sprayed across billowing maxi dresses, while the flowers came to life in 3D form on a patent white skirt. A patent-sleeved cropped jacket with metallic checker board body was paired with leather shorts in a foamy cappuccino hue, and hair was coiffed to the tune of tea dress swishing, fashion-loving, Fifties housewife. Cinched waists were high on the agenda, with plenty of belting and body contouring dresses to boots, and a broken down Chinese calligraphic-style print in red and blue, neatly ruled out on a sheer collared shirt and high-waisted shorts. A fantastic introduction to his vision and style ability, this ex-Proenza Schouler assistant is sure to stay on our runway radar. Simone Rocha She’s fast climbed the ranks to become one […]

We’d like to welcome Manolo Blahnik and his incredible collection of shoes to London, as it’s just been confirmed that the designer will be showing at London Fashion Week next month for the first time ever! If that isn’t a reason to party, we don’t know what is! “Everybody now makes a point of coming to London – which is very different to Milan and Paris. London is now so important to all these international buyers. London is the future,” the designer previously said. And he’s not wrong there! Manolo Blahnik will hold a presentation on Sunday September 15th (the location has yet to be confirmed but we will of course keep you posted as soon as we hear more) which runs from 10am and 4pm, so there are no excuses for not popping in to check the new collection out. We think Sunday is going to be one fash-tastic, fash-fuelled day as the likes of Mulberry, Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders, L’Wren Scott and Mary Katrantzou will also be showcasing their spring/summer 2014 collections on that day. Read MoreParis Hilton vs. Miranda Kerr…Who wore Topshop better?
Championing the humble high street this week are two ladies more accustomed to the high end world. Super-stunner, Miranda Kerr, and scene –stealing (in many ways) socialite Paris Hilton both stepped out in the same printed Topshop maxi skirt, and we couldn’t resist a fash-off! Totally digging every high street hit we can land our peepers on, let’s begin with Miranda – the queen of all things dressed down and cool. OK, so she may be on par with Jessica Alba when it comes to a stellar off-duty wardrobe, but we can safely say we can’t stop ogling Mrs. Bloom’s radiant complexion and off-runway style antics. Nothing short of perfect with every relaxed ensemble, Miranda pulled this maxi-vest dress look off with aplomb, as she styles it with a simple, halter-neck style black vest, flat T-bar sandals and her beloved Givenchy Antigona tote. Face-framing sunnies and flowing glossy locks, not to mention an adorable toddler, polished off the look with perfection. Stepping out in the same skirt, Paris Hilton took to the sandy beaches of Malibu on the very same day! A sucker for girly style, Ms. Hilton opted to pair the budget skirt, which features a leg-flashing side split, with a deep v-neck, cut-out detail bodycon top (which we assume is a swimsuit). Paris finished off her look by accessorising with oversized sunnies, flat pumps and a beach tote. So, whose look is a firm winner? Well, both ladies put their individual style stamps on the high street skirt, but we’re sticking with Aussie beauty Miranda on this one! By adding black to the mix, Miranda has toughened up the whimsy feel of the skirt, whilst Paris’s look appears a little ‘all over the place.’ Do you agree with our fash-off verdict?

Up The bomber jacket: The hit summer cover-up, we’re digging the bomber jacket for its endless styling opportunities. Continuing fashion’s love affair with the sport luxe trend, we’re wearing ours with skinny jeans and a luxe tee by day, and statement earring and a sexy pencil skirt by night. Knuckle-nail rings: From Balenciaga’s lusted-after gold versions to pocket-pleasing high-street alternatives on the high street, knuckle rings have evolved into the next best thing: knuckle-nail rings, as seen on the Chanel Fall Couture 2013 runway. Yeah, couture on your nails is a thing, according to Kaiser Karl. Expensive baby shoes: With a ‘female hustler’ and the ‘king of hip hop’ for parents, you’re expected to have a more than average upbringing. Her Majesty, Blue Ivy Carter, has her own pair of TOM FORD heels. Yes, TOM FORD. Downsized to tot proportions, and modelled by her bootylicious mum. In other news, the world’s first billionaire couple reportedly splashed out a whopping (modest by Jay-B standards) $7,500 on presents for Baby Kimye, including a pair of Christian Dior booties. Moss mania: Although she’s been everywhere since being discovered at the tender age of 14, Kate Moss continues to rule everything, everywhere. From taking over the Stuart Weitzman and Versace AW13 campaigns to teaming up with Carphone Warehouse on a new fashion-tech accessories line and going under the hammer (sort of) at Christie’s. Budget Alaia’s (well, kind of): We’ve been drooling over the real deal, and promptly heading to Zara to snap up the pocket-friendly version! We’re in love with complex, lace up sandals that look like a lot of hard work to slip into, but once you’ve got them on, there’s no coming off. Down Over-the-top underdressing: Oh, Rihanna. Bad, bad Rihanna. Rocking up to Chanel Couture (!) in nothing more than a […]
Read More“I’ll be the most hated man in fashion” – Alexander Wang’s first thoughts on the Balenciaga job
Alexander Wang’s appointment at Balenciaga has gone down a storm; he even got the Karl Lagerfeld seal of approval, which is proof enough that the fashion world has welcomed him into Nicolas Ghesquière’s role with open arms. However, the New York based designer has revealed that he very nearly turned it down (in fact he said “no” the very first time François-Henri Pinault asked him!) for fear of backlash from the fashion world. Perish the thought! “My first reaction to was no,” Alexander Wang said. “I told him that I was so preoccupied with what I am doing with my own brand in New York, and I’ll be the most hated man in fashion!” “I felt that fear was driving my decision-making, so I wrote down a list of pros and cons and asked myself, ‘What am I afraid of? The perception of failure? The perception of what people might think?’ I knew that what I wanted completely outweighed all of that.” We bet he’s glad he took the job now! Click here to check out his debut collection for Balenciaga. We can’t imagine a Balenciaga without him now, can you? [Vogue]

It’s always hard to shine when you’re not the reason the red carpet(black in this case) was laid out, but wherever Ms. Jolie goes, she commands the red carpet. Accompanying fiancé Brad Pitt to the Berlin premiere of his latest film World War Z, Angelina looked a vision in white, wearing a custom-made Ralph & Russo strapless peplum dress with rose gold belt-like detailing at the waist. Although we’ve waxed lyrical about her black Saint Laurent Paris look at the London premiere for the film, this look elevates the Little White Dress to new heights. The leggy beauty teamed the stunning dress with matching pumps and her signature glossy locks. A look like Angelina’s needs no accessorising, so we’re glad she skipped the bag in favour of a small, elegant earrings and a cuff-style bracelet. What do you think; she certainly outdid her star of the film husband-to-be, right? [Image: Zimbio]

Read MoreVictoria Beckham scoops Best Dressed of The Week
After overloading on Met Ball dresses, and taking in as many The Great Gatsby premiere outfits as we could, we’ve decide to tone things down for this week’s Best Dressed. Going over to the personal red carpet that unfolds before Victoria Beckham’s every heel-shod step (well, it does in our minds), she’s really blown us away with a series of show-stopping, off and on duty outfits this week. First up, spotted out for lunch in Paris, VB looked a day-off-dresser’s dream in high-waisted jeans and a tucked in grey tee. But it’s when we spot her in her own collection that we really fall in love with this lady’s refined style all over again! Arriving at JFK airport, Victoria sported a chic, tri-block colour ensemble of orange wide-leg trousers (we can ear them screaming summer at us), a crisp white shirt and a knee-length black coat. Sophistication defined, we’ve never know airport attire to look so polished. Finishing of this delicious trio of unforgettable looks was Mrs B’s ‘power look’; a purple, front-slit skirt and brown keyhole detail blouse from her autumn/winter 2013-14 collection. Stepping out after a meeting at Bergdorf Goodman, this outfit was sure to seal the deal (not that VB needs much assistance in the business department). Three multi-tasking looks that exude the polished glamour Victoria is known for; we’re enviously speechless! Which look is your favourite? [Images: Zimbio]

You don’t need us to tell you that denim never really goes out of fashion – after all, there’s never a good time to throw our your favourite, trusty pair of jeans, is there? This morning however we’re taking our love of denim to a whole new level; we don’t mean Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake matching double denim level though (we don’t ever want to relive that 2001 sartorial nightmare, no matter how cute they were as a young couple) but we are extending our love of the fabric. If you love your jeans too much to kiss them goodbye, why don’t you try them in a different colour instead of the conventional blue? We found a great peach pair by J Brand – not only is the colour perfect for the spring/summer season, but it now has the royal seal of approval now that Kate Middleton has been spotted out in the shade. Trust a Frenchie to pull off a Parisian fashion house’s epic design with effortlessness. Would you believe Marion Cotillard is ever so nonchalantly wearing none other than Christian Dior here?! Although the raggedly cut, Rooney Mara-esqe bob isn’t really doing it for us, we couldn’t take our eyes of her stunning rise-and-fall hemline dress. Marion attended the Tokyo premiere of her latest film, Rust and Bone in a strapless frock festooned with textured florals, from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection. Although the overall look is very, very pared down, we think it works perfectly. Finishing off Marion’s red carpet style were asymmetrical strap Dior pumps (probably an ode to the uneven hemline) and a slick of gloss on the lips. We think it’s pretty refreshing to witness an accessory-free celebrity for once, allowing more focus to fall on the beautiful dress. What do you make of Marion’s minimal look? [Image: Zimbio]

Good for Naomi Watts for braving the slight chill and flashing her flawless pins in the French Capital city during Paris Fashion Week yesterday. You don’t need to look at a calendar or check the weather forecast to know that spring is on its way – looking at Naomi is enough! Akin to Jessica Chastain, whose style we gushed about earlier this week, Naomi Watts also provided us with a bevy of hot red carpet looks this awards season – and she too is showing no signs of slowing down just yet. The gorgeous actress showcased her style credentials on the Louis Vuitton FROW yesterday, wearing a simple white shift dress from the brand’s spring/summer 2013 collection, and teaming it with a beautiful pastel turquoise bag. This gets a 9/10 from us as we wish she’d gone for different coloured shoes, but from the ankles up this is flawless.

Thank God for live streams! Attending the 2013 Cesar Film Awards in a breathtaking spring 2013 Christian Dior Couture gown was the stunning actress, Marion Cotillard. Opting for Dior once again (the last time was that zingy, directional number at the 2013 BAFTA Awards), this time Marion took a more classic, Forties pin-up route with the styling. The strapless pale pink gown was adorned with black stripes, worn with embellished pumps and classic Forties up-do. Chopard jewels completed her splendid look. Considering the awards ceremony was held in Paris, there was no excuse to not go for the classic French fashion house and, being the face of Lady Dior, only Dior would do on the night. We wouldn’t expect anything less from this beautiful French actress.
Read MoreIs Rihanna for River Island real fashion?
Whilst show-hopping at Somerset House this fashion season, I stopped off in one of the café’s dotted conveniently next to the entrance of the exhibition I had spent ten hours gawking at. Sat, almost inhaling a much needed caffeine fix, my ears happened to fall upon a rather heated debate between two relatively oppositely styled fashion week attendees: the interviewer happened to be dressed in run-around journo gear, complete with obligatory back pack and tatty notebook in hand. The interviewee, from what I could hear, was an aspiring designer. Their topic of conversation: Rihanna’s latest collection for River Island. Hitting stores on March 5, the collection has been a point contention ever since its London Fashion Week debut. Badgal RiRi’s first ‘official’ venture into fashion came courtesy of high street super brand, River Island. Known for her penchant of the Nineties, with a healthy dose of sport-luxe thrown in (can you hear the multiple KERCHING’S, Mr. Wang?), it was pretty obvious these references were going to crop up in the collaboration. But, the point the two ladies were disagreeing over in what could only be described as a highly civilised cat fight was the hands-on approach to designing (or lack of) many celebrity collaborations are guilty of. Although pictures have emerged showing the Bajan beauty getting ‘involved’ and inspecting the collection, reports have claimed that co-designer Adam Selman was responsible for almost all of the handiwork, with Rihanna instructing via telephone and then arriving near the unveiling date to inspect samples. She took the bow last Saturday night, and it’s certainly called Rihanna for River Island, but was the interviewers argument, that a celebrity cannot rightfully claim a collection if they haven’t had any physical creative input into the design process, a justified one to put forward? The interviewee was quick […]
Read MoreJohn Galliano might stay with Oscar de la Renta, might teach fashion
Even though John Galliano has currently been taken under Oscar de la Renta’s wing in New York, it’s still not entirely clear what the designer will do with his life and career afterwards. “John is taking things slowly,” a source reportedly told the New York Post. “He would like to do some teaching at a fashion school, more one on one with students rather than lecturing to a large group. “He hopes to finalize a deal with a school soon. It may not even be in the US.” It could very well be with the prestigious Central Saint Martins, as JG is indeed a former student, but we guess we’ll just have to sit tight and wait for official news to break. Oscar de la Renta has even hinted that Galliano might stay with him for longer than the initial three-week period that was planned, but again, nothing has been confirmed. “I would love for him to stay,” said Oscar de la Renta. “Will he? I cannot tell you that today. Because we haven’t gone that far in really discussing it. “The fact is we work very differently in New York than in Paris. It’s night and day. We work at a much faster pace. So the answer is we don’t know. We’re still exploring.” Watch this space! [Telegraph]

As well as all those exciting high street shows that are making their way onto the London Fashion Week catwalks, we can look forward to seeing some brand new names on the very popular Swarovski Collective this season, which means a whole lot more sparkle not only in London, but in New York, Milan and Paris too. Prabal Gurung, Emilia Wickstead and Eudon Choi have all joined the Swarovski Collective, which means lots of exquisitely crafted crystals appearing in their designs. Our inner magpies are squealing with delight! “Swarovski is delighted to collaborate with such inspiring and innovative talents this season,” said spokesperson Nadja Swarovski. “Crystal technology has allowed for endless experimentation within the fashion world and we are excited to see how each designer will use their artistry to demonstrate the versatility of Swarovski Elements.” Other designers in the Swarovski Collective include Marios Schwab, Mary Katrantzou, Rodarte and Giles among others. Bring on the sparkle!
Read MoreCouture Fashion Week highlights from Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab and Valentino
Quite a lot of Couture Fashion Week highlights to get through this afternoon, so let’s crack right on. Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino all presented their Spring Couture collections in Paris, and we’ve selected a few of our fave looks from each show. Jean Paul Gaultier loves a good theme when it comes to his collections – this time round he was inspired by the gypsies of Rajasthan, India, which was very evident in the rich colours, vibrant patterns, intricate detailing and heavy embroidery. We love the voluminous beehives and the reworked edition of the cone bra, too – a JPG classic! Elie Saab did as Elie Saab does and blew everyone away with the sheer romanticism and fairytale elegance of his collection. An abundance of sheer, lace, sequin and pastel red carpet worthy dresses for those all-important Oscars, not to mention editorial content for upcoming fashion glossy pages. We don’t think this collection should be overlooked for upcoming A-lister weddings either! Finally, Valentino was simply magical with some of the most finely crafted, perfectly sculpted pieces we’ve ever laid eyes upon. We’re glad the Valentino-approved florals remained in the collection, with the flirty structured dress Cara Delevingne stepped out in being one of our favourites. Elie Saab Valentino

Another thing we love about Couture Fashion Week is the fact that we get to check out the fresh new trends that will be dominating the fashion glossy pages and shelves in all our fave clothes stores. Donatella Versace re-introduced us to the big, bold world of neon at the Atelier Versace show which took place in Paris a few days ago, which has naturally got us digging out the old pieces in our wardrobes and hunting for fresh new pieces at the same time. Whether you choose to embrace the trend by way of a subtle (but no less wow-some) accessory or go full-on with a loud dress or jumper, we think you’ll find something in our little selection above to convince you to give it a good go. Which piece is your fave? Chanel time! Romantic, sparkly, pure, classic, bold, iconic, revolutionary – all of these words describe the Spring 2013 couture show that took place in the epic Grand Palais in Paris yesterday. There was an abundance of snowy-white pieces that were presented on the catwalk, which was very apt considering the current weather conditions. To finish things off and get people talking, Karl Lagerfeld presented two brides (British Vogue February cover girl Kati Nescher and Ashleigh Good, since you asked) in the finale to show that he is all-for same-sex marriage. And of course no Chanel show would be complete without Karl Lagerfeld’s adorable little godson Hudson Kroenig making an appearance – look how cute and dapper he looks in his white suit! Chanel wasn’t the only big show to take place yesterday though. Armani Privéalso had its moment in the spotlight, as a plethora of pant-suits were presented along with ultra-skinny trousers, three-quarter length sleeves and pencil skirts. A really wearable collection that seems accessible, but isn’t short of wow factor… lots of fab colours and prints to get excited about, especially the shiny metallic pieces to appeal to your inner magpie. We hope Uma Thurman and Hilary Swank (who sat front row) pick out some good’uns for future red carpet appearances… exciting times!
Read MoreCouture Fashion Week highlights from Dior and Giambattista Valli
We always look forward to a Giambattista Valli show regardless of the season, but we were waiting with breath of even more baited proportions for Raf’s (we call him Raf – we like to think of him as our buddy) Christian Dior collection this Couture Fashion Week. We predicted great things for the respective shows, and we weren’t disappointed with the extravagant pieces that floated down the Parisian catwalks. We got a mix of colours and clever layering at Dior, with lots of gowns for celebs to choose from for the upcoming awards season. Although Raf Simons is slowly putting his own signature on the brand, it’s clear to see that he’s respecting and referencing the work of Christian Dior at the same time- why else would the show be taking place in such green surroundings in Paris’ Tuillerie Gardens? Volume was key, which is why there were larger-than-life skirts juxtaposed with slimmer silhouettes and finer tailoring. His vision for the three-piece bar suit was particularly inspiring. Over at Giambattista Valli it was more or less Princess central – or at least high society central. Early scenes from Gossip Girl spring to mind! The full dresses were just as extravagant as we hoped and expected, although we also got some more playful creations this time around with the introduction of mini and midi skirt lengths. Sugary pastels and exquisite, intricate detailing were in abundance, but it’s clear to see that the classic Giambattista Valli girl is spicing things up a bit this season! Stay tuned for more couture delights from the likes of Chanel and Stéphane Rolland.

We got a fresh dose of tweed at the Chanel spring/summer 2013 show yesterday, which has made us fall in love with it all over again. For those of us who cant afford to stock up on Chanel separates (and let’s face it, that is actually most of us – sob!) there are other alternatives out there on the actual and virtual British High Street – hooray! And, as Karl Lagerfeld has shown us season after season, we know it isn’t just about the tweed jacket… no matter how iconic it is! If you want to mix it up a bit, there are other ways to embrace the tweed trend too so the options are virtually endless! Take a look at some of the tweed pieces that we are currently lusting after. The Chanel shows during Paris Fashion Week always have an elite crowd in attendance, and today’s spring/summer 2013 show was no exception. Among the impeccably dressed A-list front rowers was Jennifer Lopez, who looked divine in a white Chanel dress with a daring plunging front and see-through cut-out detailing at the back. Jennifer arrived at the show wearing a black cropped jacket to keep out the Parisian chill, but we think it was relatively distracting so we’re glad she promptly took it off when she was inside the lavish Grand Palais. J-lo really was the epitome of the ultimate Chanel woman this morning, with her chic up-do, flawless make-up and of course, matching Chanel handbag. She attended the show with boyfriend Casper Smart and adorable daughter Emme, and we think we spied the four-year-old holding a white Chanel bag. Not at all jealous, honest!

As we wait somewhat patiently for Paris Fashion Week to kick off, we can’t help but reminisce about some of our favourite shows of London Fashion Week. Seems like ages ago, doesn’t it? Temperley London was without a shadow of a doubt one of our spring/summer 2013 highlights; the soft, intricate lace detailing in particular was to die for. This is why we’ve decided to seek midweek inspiration from Alice Temperley’s phenomenal show and drool over some lace pieces that are currently up for grabs on the high street. Read MoreMilan Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 2
We know it’s early days as we still have the rest of Milan Fashion Week and the whole of Paris Fashion Week to look forward to, but we are declaring Moschino one of our favourite collections of the season (so far). Moschino presented somewhat of a “space-age meets sixties and seventies” collection, with more colourful, floral, vivid pieces than you can shake a stick at. The collection went from one extreme to the other in terms of colour (or lack thereof) as in amongst the bright floral pieces were chic monochrome ones that would be totally at home in Karl Lagerfeld’s personal wardrobe. It was also all about the flower power and complex cuts and silhouettes for Prada’s spring/summer 2013 catwalk outing too. The collection appears to have been relatively Japanese inspired if the kitsch, cute, elevated floral embellishments on the garments, silk kimono-style pieces and geisha-red lips on the models are anything to go by. And on a separate note, how Iris Apfel are those glasses on the third model above? Amazing! We’re not too sure where the metallic socks fit in though. A predominantly monochrome colour palette with a bit of bold red thrown in for good measure – how can you go wrong with something so timeless and classic?! Today is a busy day for the Italian fashionistas, as the likes of Versace, Versus and Just Cavalli will be showing their spring/summer 2013 offerings so stay tuned for more updates!

After peeking the Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton collection (and even those Children in Need T-shirts some of our fave designers are creating) we are positively obsessed with all things polka dot right now. If you think spots are just those pesky things you get on your face when you’re a teenager, then hopefully we can help you change your mind. Minnie Mouse was onto something when she donned that red and white polka dot dress. Read MoreTom Ford comes to London, Azzedine Alaia goes to Paris
Just yesterday we told you Karl Lagerfeld was coming to London to launch yet another collection in Selfridges, but he isn’t the only designer to get swept up in London 2012 fever. Tom Ford will be opening his first ever British standalone store in London’s Sloane Street (201-206 to be precise), and it will be neighbours with the likes of Gucci, Fendi and Chanel. The exact opening date has yet to be confirmed, but you can still shop his collections in Selfridges, Harrods and Harvey Nichols, as well as online, in the meantime. Also opening a new store is Azzedine Alaia – and as it will be his first in over 20 years, it’s pretty exciting stuff! His shop, however, will be in Paris, and will sit pretty on the Rue de Marignan (just off Avenue Montaigne where Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior live.) Things are always a big deal where Alaia is concerned – the designer essentially only creates new collections when he feels like it, so we assume he feels the exact same way about stores too. More deets as and when we get them, as always! [Elle]

As it was Haute Couture week in Paris, we had a lot of impeccably dressed ladies to choose from for this week’s Best Dressed of the Week prize. However, we decided to go for Glee’s leading lady Lea Michele as she sat front row for the Atelier Versace Couture show. The brunette beauty looked svelte and sexy all round with a figure-hugging bright orange Versace dress and her smooth, sleek locks flowing on her petite shoulders. Awards season confirmed that Lea Michele is a huge fan of the “go big or go home” mantra, but we’re glad she decided to tone it down for the FROW. This appearance proves that she is capable of looking just as breathtaking in something less dramatic; in fact, we think she made such a bold statement that we may even crown this her best look of the entire year. Gorgeous doesn’t even cut it!

Never has a catwalk collection been more anticipated than the Christian Dior Haute Couture autumn/winter 2012 one that took place in Paris yesterday. The first collection shown by John Galliano’s successor was inevitably always going to be, but we don’t think Raf Simons let the nerves get the better of him. The new Creative Director presented a clean, fresh and downright beautiful Haute Couture collection that combined the true essence of the Christian Dior brand with the flare of femininity, romanticism, and contemporary edginess that he brought to Jil Sander. We bet Raf Simons was really feeling the pressure though, as the hottest names in fashion turned up to witness his first show. Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour and Anna Dello Russo were all on the front row watching with very beady eyes! What do you think of Raf Simons’ first duties for Christian Dior?

Read MoreRate or Slate Jessica Brown-Findlay, Ciara and Paris Hilton’s style efforts?
This week’s Rate or Slate takes us to the red, or rather blue carpet at the Prometheus film premiere in London, and leads us to the red carpet fashion parade at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards held in LA, last week. Jessica Brown-Findlay made a blue carpet appearance in an edgy Peter Pilotto peter number, complete with what we like to call ‘sensible’ heels and clutch. Ciara opted for a racy, red Balmain mini (very mini!) and sexy sky-high courts, but her glossy, tousled mane is the real winner here! Socialite Paris Hilton, too, turned up to the MTV Music Awards in a metallic, sequined mini, splashed with crystal embellishment at the neck and hemline. A spiked clutch and black patent pumps completed her look. It’s over to the Style Jury to dissect… Fashion News Ed says: Jessica Brown-Findlay: ‘This is my favourite dress, but don’t think it’s hugely flattering on Jessica which is a shame. The styling is perfect though.’ Ciara: ‘I think someone needs to give Ciara a refresher course on the whole “boobs or legs but never both” rule as she seems to have forgotten. I’d have preferred a slightly lower hemline, but the MTV Movie Awards is one of the few places you can get away with the slightly more daring numbers.’ Paris Hilton: This is very Paris! Nothing new or groundbreaking… she’s a pretty blonde girl wearing a pretty black dress at a star-studded event. It’s neither here nor there but I love the contrast of the dress against her skin and hair.’ You say: ‘Ciara – low cut or hight cut, not both’ – @AsTimeGoesBy via Twitter (On Jessica) ‘Great dress, but makes her look like a wide load.’ (On Ciara) ‘Great hair, but low neckline & high hem too slutty.’ (On Paris) ‘Hot!’ […]
