To stripe, floral or gingham?
Stripes, florals and gingham take center stage this season with designers offering fresh and playful takes on each print respectively. Naturally, florals secured the leading role, although they face serious competition from ultra-chic gingham, while bold and powerful stripes are determined to make a statement. Whether you opt to fill your wardrobe with all three or just one, integrating any of these three major trends needn’t be hard work. Some of our fave celebs have recently been spotted swapping their skinny jeans for flares and we love it. Yep, 70’s fashion is a huge trend this season. Kill two birds with one stone and nail both trends with this gorgeous knee-length floral dress from Esprit and platforms or a pretty floral top with retro-inspired flares and wedges for a trendy feminine approach. STRIPES Admittedly, stripes can be very tricky to pull off, so keep it simple. Take a style tip from Altzurra and pair a tanned belt with a flattering shirt dress or wide-legged nautical trousers with a white wrap blouse for a non- complicated relaxed look. Play with proportion and incorporate stripes of all size. Large or small, vertical or horizontal, stripes won’t be going out of style any time soon. Gingham has taken on a life of it’s own this season and there’s no hard fast rules when it comes to pulling off the print. Revived by designers including Diane von Furstenberg and Bottega Veneta, a gingham dress complimented with a cute cardi makes for the ultimate spring look. Be a tad more adventurous and bare your midriff in a gingham skirt, sandals and finish off the look with a satchel for a great weekend get-away outfit.

Read More5 tips for updating your wardrobe without breaking the bank
It’s true that not all of us have access to the world’s top designers or Kim Kardashian’s bank balance for that matter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a wardrobe to rival the rich and famous….even if we are on a budget. In fact, with a little research and a bit of planning, you too can have an enviable clothing collection. Here are our 5 essential tips for updating your look without breaking the bank. 1. What style do you want? Now more than ever branding has never been more important and our image communicates our message. So, first things first. Write a couple of sentences to describe your personality and the image you’d like to portray. Reflect on which style icons best embody the look you’re going for and source as many relevant images as possible for inspiration. Pinterest and style.com are great places to source pictures. 2. Which trends do you want to play around with? The great thing about fashion being so fast-paced today is not only the wealth of information we have access to but we’re updated on the trends right after the shows. This makes planning ahead so much easier. Decide which trends you’d like to play around with as well as the trends that are in line with your new image. 3. Make a list OK, so you know the look you want and the trends you’d like to channel. Now it’s time to make a list. Start with the essentials you’ll need, e.g:- a classic t-shirt, a cardigan, and a great pair of skinny jeans, followed by the more trendy pieces required to complete your wardrobe. 4. Have a major edit. There’s no sentimentality allowed when it comes to the edit. It doesn’t matter if you purchased that dress at 50% off or if those shoes were […]

Read MoreWhen Prince William and Kate Middleton met Jay Z and Beyoncé
It’s a meeting that’s had the internet in a spin. And we can understand why. Can you imagine witnessing Kate Middleton and Beyoncé chatting away? Well, if you were at the Barclays Center last night then that’s exactly what you’d have been privy to. As part of their visit to NY, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a trip down to Brooklyn last night to watch the Brooklyn Nets play the Cleveland Cavaliers. With Jay Z owning a part of the Brookly Nets, naturally the hip-hop star and wife Beyoncé are regulars at their basketball games. So who better to welcome British royalty than music’s very own royal couple? During a break in the game, both Jay Z and Beyoncé went over to shake hands and chat with Prince William and Kate Middleton and we’d give away our entire wardrobe to know what they spoke about! Naturally, Kate looked great as always in a pair of black skinny jeans and a tweed coat, while Beyonce opted for a printed top, black skirt and a denim Louis Vuitton bag from the SS15 collection. Both ladies completed their look with black pumps. 2014 hasn’t ended just yet. We’re just weeks away. But we’re willing to bet this is the most talked meeting of the year.

We have to admit we really enjoyed costume watching this Halloween…..just one of the many reasons why we’re addicted to Instagram. Heidi Klum may be infamous for making the most effort with her costumes but this year a few of our beloved celebs gave Klum a run for her money. We have way too many favourites to mention……we “oooh and ahhhed” at Beyoncé and Blue Ivy as Janet and Michael Jackson, laughed a lot at Kim and North as Anna Wintour and André Leon Talley (we’d pay good money to find out the ice queen’s thoughts about this pic)…. ….and we love, love, loved the cuteness overload of seeing Penelope and North West as adorable skunks. But the award for best dressed and the focus of today’s celebrity style goes to the one and only Kate Moss who pulled of her buddy Cara Delevingne perfectly. From the hoodie to the skinny jeans, to her impressions. Kate nailed it. Poking fun at Cara, Moss accessorised her outfit with a dab of white powder carefully placed on her nose. A tad controversial or just a good laugh? Thoughts? [Images]

We’ve seen some of the most stylish famous faces – from Olivia Palermo to Cara Delevingne to Rosie Huntington Whiteley, among others – step out in Burberry’s check print monogrammed poncho… but we think we’ve found someone who has outdone them all and put them all to shame… And that someone is the original fashionista, the woman who gave life to Carrie Bradshaw and made us fall in love with fashion – Miss Sarah Jessica Parker! SJP nailed that “just going about my daily business in the Big Apple” look, as she teamed her poncho with some gloriously skinny jeans, sleek and gorgeously tousled golden locks, and A-list essential black shades. If you’re going to wear a poncho this autumn/winters season, then this is the way to do it. From pink tutus to Manolo Blahniks, Sarah Jessica Parker has made us covet so many things – and this Burberry poncho has definitely been added to the list. Read MoreNew York Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Oscar de la Renta, Jenny Packham, Rodarte and more!
Jenny Packham’s show was, as always, quite exquisite, with the designer saying her muse for the new collection was “blatantly Marilyn Monroe”. “She’s been there all my life, but I’ve rediscovered her again,” Jenny Packham said. “She’s still so relevant. What she wore doesn’t date.” We couldn’t agree more, and we absolutely love Jenny Packham’s Marilyn inspired vision. We predict Michelle Williams will be one of the first ladies to step out in one of these pieces; what say you? We definitely feel the Marc by Marc Jacobs girl has a little bit of Miley Cyrus to her – and not just due to the short, twisted top-knot hairstyles found on the runway models. We saw an abundance of polka dots and cute cropped tops – both of which we could easily associate with the controversial singing superstar. We wonder if her influence will make an appearance in her good friend Marc Jacobs’ eponymous collection too… Elsewhere in New York, we discovered that skinny jeans might still be relevant after all – or at least according to Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte – and last but not least learnt that Oscar de la Renta can still render his audiences speechless with the sheer intricacy and beauty of his designs. Take a look at our latest highlights from New York Fashion Week’s spring/summer 2015 season: Oscar de la Renta Marc by Marc Jacobs Jenny Packham Rodarte

Nude is back, people! Ok it never really went away to begin with, but we’d like to confirm that it’s bigger and better than ever before! And before readers of a prudish disposition stop in their tracks and recoil in horror, we’d like to point out that we are in fact talking about the colour – or lack thereof – as opposed to the state of undress. Reading resumes here… We don’t just have Kate Middleton and her love of a nude pump to thank for the emerging neutral trend – although she has played quite a substantial part in bringing it back on people’s radars. Ralph Lauren is just one of many designers who is bringing natural shades back on our style agenda; and this time he’s making sure that everyone’s paying attention. Sure we love a bright, bold summer hue for getting attention on the beach or at the cocktail bar, or a cute pastel colour combo for those light springtime evenings, but neutral is really standing out the most for us at the moment. And you only have to take a look at the latest Ralph Lauren collection to see what we mean. Going for nude is by no means a cop out; the textures, prints and patterns in the Ralph Lauren Blue Label collection alone are proof that nude is the furthest thing from dull and boring imaginable. The latest collection was actually inspired by Out of Africa – a film bursting with style if we may say – which is more than evident thanks to the basket weave cardigans and skinny jodhpurs complete with their very own suede knee patches. Our favourite piece from the collection, however, is the Nappa Gemima bootie in “truffle” as it’s a versatile shoe that would be just as welcome […]

We told you last month that Cara Delevingne had solely been chosen to model Topshop’s new season pieces for the autumn/winter 2014 ad campaigns… and now it’s finally time to take a look at the very first image from the campaign. So what do you think? Cara was shot by Alasdair McLellan, and we reckon she looks as effortlessly cool as always, looking really comfortable an at ease with some casual skinny jeans and a blazer to sharpen things up. We also love how she is strumming an acoustic guitar in the shot too, as we know how keen she is to break into the music industry. We can’t wait to see the rest of the pics from the ad campaign! They’re due to be released any day now so keep your eyes firmly peeled!

Do you want your man to dress to impress? These days a lot more attention is paid to how a guy looks and dresses. Long gone are the days where men got out of bed, splashed their face with a little water and threw on whatever they wanted for the day. If you want your loved one to take greater pride in his appearance then there’s all kinds of fashion do’s and don’ts he needs to pay closer attention to: From men’s designer hoodies to fashionable footwear, below you’ll discover the essentials you need to incorporate in your modern man’s wardrobe. 1. A navy suit If he’s used to wearing a trusty black suit for all special occasions, now’s the time to make a change. Navy suits are flattering for all skin tones and they remain formal while fashionable at the same time. Practically any coloured shirt goes well with a navy suit and it’s something he’ll be able to wear for many years to come. 2. Tweezers Ok, so they may not technically belong in a wardrobe, but every man should own a pair of tweezers. Helping to keep those eyebrows perfectly trimmed; he’ll constantly look his best if he appears well-groomed. They even feature on Tom Ford’s ‘must have’ men’s list. 3. Straight leg jeans Skinny jeans may be fashionable for some, but let’s face it; they aren’t realistic for everyone! To stay looking fashionable and trendy, straight leg jeans are a great option. They provide a tailored look and give a little more leg space than skinny jeans. 4. White button up shirt A white button up shirt goes well with practically anything. Suitable for both formal and casual occasions, this is a fantastic staple to have in your wardrobe. It’s featured on many top 10 lists […]

Read MoreHow to do normcore without completely giving it away
It’s the nameless, label-less, anti-trend sweeping the fashion world, and its popularity, surprisingly, shows no sign of waning. Normcore, or dressing like your dad, is a dress code some too-hip-for-street-style individuals have adopted, in order to remove themselves from the overstretched fashion clichés that bloggers and street style stars have made popular. More relevant examples of normcore advocates include the Olsen Twins (well, sometimes), 90s star Jerry Seinfeld and, well, everything American Apparel, really. No longer does a uniform of skinny jeans, luxe boots and oversized coat suffice; nor does the ‘all black errythangg’ (cheers, Kanye), Emmanuelle Alt-esque aesthetic win you any brownie points. No. Normcore embraces the warmth of a Patagonia fleece as does Anna Dello Russo the charm of a furry Tom Ford number; it advocates the wearing of flannel shirts, but not how Hedi Slimane intended. So, to break down the trend and make it easier to digest, we’ve picked out five seemingly unflattering (but secretly stylish) pieces to add to your dad dressing equation, when going for normcore. From the slouchiest black pants to an unassuming Acne cap; we’ve got the untrendy trend covered. Buck the trend (literally), and shop the look below. Denim jacket: Moto sleeveless denim jacket, £38, available at Topshop. Cap: Acne Studios Clint Patch baseball cap, £90, available at Net-a-Porter. Sneakers: Brooks Addiction walking shoe, £76.64, available at Nordstrom. Pants: Casual trouser, £285, available at Y-3. Top: Getting Back To Square One Malibu sweatshirt, £221.29, available at Farfetch.

If the wear-with-anything appeal doesn’t pull you in, then an everyday jacket is your best bet for ‘pulling together’ an outfit, however casual it may be. This week, we’re pondering the purchase potential of the Diane von Furstenberg Esther jacket (£541). Easy-on-the-eye, thanks to the heady mix of print and flattering colour, we won’t blame you for dreaming up countless outfit ideas. But, hold fire! Before pushing it into your e-basket in a want-it-now hurry, do check out the reasons we’re saying yay and nay to the Esther jacket below: Yay Great cover up option: If you’re sick of sporting a winter coat, now’s the time to invest in a lighter, mid-season buy. This resort collection jacket will serve as the perfect go-between, with added punch. Luxe detail: We love everything from the cleverly concealed zip fastening to the black leather-trimmed edges, and the handy pockets, too! Work-to-party appeal: Slip the Esther jacket over a formal work dress, and then switch to skinny jeans and heels for after-hours cocktails. Easy! Nay Statement piece: The colour-block detail paired with the stripe print works to great effect, but it could also mean this statement jacket’s wow appeal could land it in the one-(or two)-wear-then-despair pile? Price: You’re looking at dropping a not-so-light sum of £541 on this look-at-me piece, so think hard about how it will fit in with the rest of your wardrobe. Shape: Although we love a boxy shape for a coat, in jacket form it’s not the most flattering silhouette. Do try out a boxy-fit item of clothing to see if it suits your body shape before clicking this beauty home. Diane von Furstenberg Esther jacket, £541, available at Matches Fashion.

Read MoreThree ways to style your winter boots
Boots are an absolute must for the autumn/winter season and one of their biggest selling points is their brilliant versatility. They can be worn with almost anything in a wardrobe, from skinny jeans to a hippy-chic lace dress, a smart skirt suit or leggings and a casual top – the options are almost endless. Here are three ways to get the most wear out of your beloved winter boots this year. Go brave with bare legs Teaming ankle boots with bare legs and a well cut smock dress is a great way to tick plenty of different fashion boxes. It looks ultra on trend but is also a great way of keeping comfortable during those busy days. Xtra Factor presenter Caroline Flack is the poster girl for bare legs and she demonstrates how bypassing tights can still look classy when items like chic camel coats are added. Tuck in those jeans High heeled boots are brilliant for elongating limbs, especially when they are tucked into skinny grey or black jeans. Mixing sleek items with oversized pieces is what the true fashionistas do, and so if your jeans are super slim make sure you add some volume on top – think combining slim bottoms with an oversized shirt, a chunky knit or a billowing tunic. Add a statement necklace to add even more interest. Go midi Wearing midi skirts is a great way of mixing up your wardrobe. Vintage inspired midi skirts are really on trend right now and they look perfect teamed with ankle boots and a thin knit jumper or smarter top. If you are going for midi then make sure you choose a winter boot with a chunky or stiletto heel – the mid length can look a little unflattering with flat styles. Moda in Pelle is a […]
Read MoreWhat we really think of Tamara Mellon’s debut fashion collection
When news of Tamara Mellon’s debut fashion collection fell on our ears – yes, she of the sexy Choo shoe empire – we were beyond ecstatic. Glossed to perfection, this business and fashion stalwart won the industry over a very long time, when she was busy ruling the world of fashionable footwear at the helm of Jimmy Choo. But, since her departure from the luxury brand, Tamara hasn’t wandered too far from the fashion world. Launching to complement her autobiography, In My Shoes, Tamara’s eponymous lifestyle collection is inspired by an interestingly creative mix of mirrors and Guy Bourdin, and hits selected luxury retailers from November 2013. Finding the perfect halfway house between trend-centric style and wardrobe staples, Tamara’s collection won’t be an in-then-out affair. In fact, fashion lovers can expect seasonal capsule collections to drop in stores monthly – no more coats in July and bikinis in February! Reflecting her own “sexy but not vulgar Helmut Newton” style, the collection features statement pieces aplenty: a fringed leather midi skirt; gauzy mini dresses with leather undergarments; top-to-toe leopard looks and enough LBDs to warrant leg flashing – even in winter! Check out what we thought of the collection below: What we like: A navy jumpsuit, featuring front slit bottoms, is perfect when styled with statement accessories. Luxe basics, such as billowing blouses and skinny jeans worn with leather calf and over-the-knee boots are ideal wardrobe investments. What we love: A top-to-toe white suit, inspired by Bianca Jagger in her Studio 54 heyday, punctuated with a leopard print bag. Both the updated leopard print trench and bomber jacket are set to become certified style set favourites! What we’re not sure about: Apart from being a little on the nippy side, you’ll need a strong dose of fashion courage to slip into the gauzy […]

Thanks to the sexily sleepy Louis Vuitton AW ’13 collection, the style set were all over the idea of sleepwear as outerwear. Lace-trimmed camisole tops and dresses, worn beneath oversized coats and completed with a dark stain on the lips is the look du jour for the new season, and we’re in. Not content with just being a day-to-night option, the lace camisole is enjoying its newly acquired wardrobe staple status; worn with wide-leg trousers and a tuxedo jacket for a refreshing slant on Le Smoking, or paired with skinny jeans, a cashmere knit and boots for an easy day look. Had trouble tracking down the perfect camisole to suit you budget or style? Don’t fret, because we’ve done the legwork and picked out two gorgeous styles that sit either end of the spectrum. Up first at the steep end, the lace-trimmed silk camisole from Antonio Berardi (£600) is a winner for those looking to make a luxe investment. Delicately crafted from pure silk, we love the skinny shoulder straps and sheer black and beige lace detail. The perfect high-end option if you’re after a fail-safe evening look; you’ll be wearing this camisole for years to come. But if your purse strings won’t stretch that far, then fear not! Luxe lingerie brand, Myla London, has the perfect mid-range offering. Coming in at £135, the Isabella camisole is an equally stylish (and cheaper) alternative to its high-end sibling, and features similarly delicate lace detail and adjustable straps. If someone told us we’d be lusting after the wardrobe of a Sports Illustrated model we wouldn’t have believed them. After all, we love layers and lots of them, and lads mag models typically don’t. However, Kate Upton is no longer just a Sports Illustrated model – she’s made quite a fashionable name for herself… a status which was clearly cemented by her British Vogue and American Vogue covers and a multitude of high fashion ad campaigns. So, with her new style maven status and Anna Wintour approval, it should come as no suspire to see her rocking some of the hottest fashions as she goes about her daily business. Glitter and sequins are having a serious moment on the catwalks of the world right now, and as a result, we are pretty obsessed with all things sparkly too. Read MoreA footwear wildcard
A few weeks back, we posted a story of fashion resurrection, detailing how Clarks had gone from dowdy to desired thanks to one key style. It got the brain cogs turning, what next? Can another fashion brand repeat such success or are Clarks a one-off? Considering it’s winter, flip flops are hardly going to be the choice du jour when predicting a trend resurgence. Women’s boots are the obvious choice and a lot of styles usually thought to be worn by the less fashion-conscious are actually creating some good lines. This might be a controversial choice but considering the trend of chunky, clumpy boots from the likes of Vagabond and Shelly’s of London, and the dominating 90’s urban styling sported by Hipsters up and down the country, Fly boots have got some pretty fashionable styles out. A stand out pair are the Yoss boot. Thick wedge heal? Yep. On-trend ankle height? Yep. Look good with cute dolly or patterned socks? Yep! These boots would look great with skinny jeans or black tights and thicker grey socks when the temperature really drops. From a similar family come the Yia shoes, a wedge, lace-up shoe that is also winter ready. It would have been great to have seen these in a deep red as well as black though. Another brand often overlooked because of the attachment of schools kids are Kickers. However, we’ve seen the odd pair crop-up on the feet of some very fashionable individuals and thanks to a partnership with the edgy Lazy Oaf, Kickers are looking fabulous. One such pair giving the brand a make-over are the women’s kick lazy glitter. Try out the multicolour pair to break from the tradition of black and add contrast to your darker winter clothes. The high kick in red are also pretty […]

As the weather turns wet and miserable here in the UK, many of us are beginning to feel the longing to travel and get away from grey skies to a more inspiring landscape but that eternal question persists – what to wear? If you’re a fashion lover; Italy is a great choice for this time of year. In winter it is one of the most beautiful sights in the world, the cultural architecture standing out against white snow, cultural events and performances in historic theatres, and iconic tourist attractions without the usual big crowds. It’s also easy to get to from the UK, with airlines such as Monarch offering reasonably priced flights to Rome. It’s also one of the leading countries in the world in fashion design; home to infamous labels such as Gucci, Armani, Valentino, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana to name a few. So why not treat yourself too? Rome and Milan are fashion heaven and offer the perfect excuse to look as fashionable as the locals. Staple wardrobe to ensure you fit in? A pair of dark blue skinny jeans paired with a classic white t-shirt and a great fitting blazer. Well if it isn’t the all singing, all dancing, all twerking Miley Cyrus on the cover of October’s Harper’s Bazaar! Wearing a gorgeous Burberry Prorsum dress for the front cover, Miley is posing fiercely yet elegantly for Terry Richardson’s camera, looking liked a far more toned down version of herself. Well, more toned down than her recent MTV VMA performance, anyway. Miley opens up to the mag about her music, her professional and personal plans for the future, and whether she plans to take another stab at fashion designing after her Walmart line was discontinued… “I went in there and saw, like, a puppy on a T-shirt. I was like, ‘This is not what I wanted.’ I wanted skinny jeans, I wanted to bless Walmart with jeggings,” she said. “Making real stuff with high quality. Not quantity.” So will she be releasing something anytime soon? “Not until I know I can give it 120 percent. I don’t want to just slap my name on something.” Well at least she’s honest; we won’t give up hope completely though.
