Cheryl Cole wows in DSquared2 and Philosophy for Elle UK August cover
We’ve barely flicked through all the July fashion glossies – and are still waiting patiently for the American Vogue July cover to surface – so we haven’t even started thinking about August issues yet. But lo and behold, the Elle UK August cover has found itself online and we’re not gonna lie – we’re pretty grateful that it has. We’re so thankful that the cover has arrived sooner rather than later, as it features the one and only Miss Cheryl Cole. How incredible does she look on the cover? Cheryl was shot by Ben Morris, and is rocking a pretty drool-worthy selection of designer threads on the cover and editorial shoot, including pieces from Gucci, J Brand, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Christopher Kane. Oh and in case you wanted to know what she’s wearing on the cover, it’s DSquared2, Philosophy and Manolo Blahnik. Phew – we think that’s everything! This is one issue of the fashion glossy that you won’t want to miss, as Cheryl opens up about some pretty deep subjects, including being on the verge of a breakdown, how she feels about having children, and why she chose to return to The X Factor. Like we said, it’s un-missable!

When it comes to what you wear, you may want to start thinking about buying designer brands after all. If you’re a Target shopper when it comes to picking up your casuals, jeans, or clothes for work, it’s time to switch your game up, and here’s why: clothes have resale value—a lot of it. We’ve always known that high end brands fetch more when we opt to resell them, but the fact of the matter is that when we gain weight, lose weight, or simply stop wearing specific items, they wind up in the back of the closet, being given away to friends and relatives, or donated to thrift shops like Goodwill, the Salvation Army, and Savers. Even for those of us savvy enough to make the effort to make some money back on our threads end up in consignment shops—and with the percentages back they offer those whose clothes they sell, the return is usually about 50 percent of the resale value. Even with clothes that probably shouldn’t be sold to consignment stores, it’s a practical investment to look for brands that will stand the test of time as opposed to a lower quality item, saving you money in the long run. Now there’s a new and better way for online clothes sellers, buyers, and even the online ecommerce sites engaging in selling clothes for those of us spring cleaning our wardrobes, whether we’re unleashing designer brand jeans, work casuals, or designer bags and gently used shoes and accessories. Those of us unloading our closets stand to make a lot more—usually around 30 percent more than the old-fashioned brick and mortar consignment store method. What’s more, retailers and online resellers are wisely creating what will likely be long term partnerships based on the knowledge that the average American enjoys […]
Read MoreBlake Lively, Chanel and a Cannes Film Festival red carpet = perfection!
Yep, we’re writing about Blake Lively at the Cannes Film Festival for the second day in a row. We don’t think anyone will blame us though, as we just fell off our office swivel chairs when we first clapped eyes on her latest look. Although Blake Lively is the face of Gucci Premiere and has looked sensational in its dresses this month, she decided to go for a different designer for her latest Cannes appearance. And the only designer to substitute Gucci for has to be Chanel, right? Blake Lively literally sparkled on the Mr Turner premiere red carpet in a bedazzling Chanel Couture dress that is pretty much what all sartorial dreams are made of. She teamed it with Sophia Webster heels, an abundance of exquisite Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, and her signature effortless beach waves (which we learnt are a lot lower maintenance than we thought). And how much do you love the pocket detailing on that dress? We need a moment to process how one woman can look so perfect; please excuse us…
Read MoreBlake Lively owns the Grace of Monaco red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, and you can always count on Blake Lively to show everyone how it’s done on the red carpet. Mrs Ryan Reynolds looked breath-taking (there’s a sentence we’ve said time and time again and will probably never get bored of saying!) as she attended the Grace of Monaco premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. She chose to wear a stunning scarlet Gucci Premiere dress for the occasion, which came complete with a sinfully sexy thigh high slit – the perfect excuse for Blake to get her long, bronzed pins out! We didn’t think anything was going to top the Gucci Premiere dress she wore to the Met Gala a few weeks ago, but we think this might have just done it! Blake Lively wearing Gucci Premiere on a big red carpet is pretty much expected now that she is the face of the fragrance, but that certainly doesn’t mean we’re going to tire of it. Akin to Jennifer Lawrence who seldom fail to impress in Christian Dior, we think Blake Lively has a lot more jaw-dropping Gucci looks to present to us.

For the third year in a row, former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld will be hosting a fashion show for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes. And just like the two fashion shows before it, this year’s has a very distinctive theme… Carine’s first fashion show had a “black” theme, while last year’s, which was dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor, was all about gold. This year however, Carine is paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe, and has chosen the colour “red” as the theme for the fashion show. Expect to see gowns from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian Dior, Christopher Kane, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Gucci and Tom Ford on the catwalk, all of which will be auctioned off to raise money for the wonderful and worthwhile cause. This year’s event will be chaired by John Travolta, Milla Jovovich, Harvey Weinstein and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. amfAR’s annual Cinema Against AIDS gala will take place in Cannes on Thursday May 22nd. We’re excited to see the events unfold… [WWD] [Image]
Read MoreThe best make-up artists to the stars
The average person may not be able to afford the services of a top make-up artist – but it would be silly to ignore some of their top tips. While it may seem that the stars of stage and screen are flawless, this is helped in no small part by the work of such women as Gucci Westman, Alexis Vogel, Jackie Tyson, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier. Alexis works in all areas of the entertainment industry, making up everyone from top models to big names of the stage and screen. She has worked with such icons as Pamela Anderson, Kelly Clarkson, Sharon Stone, Lisa Marie Presley, Paula Abdul and Bo Derek. Trendsetter She says she has been an image-setter for 25 years and claims her unique skill is inventing new styles and looks. She believes looking great starts before you even reach for your cosmetics case. Wearing a good facial sunscreen is one of her top tips. Bobbi Brown is one of the most famous make-up artists in the world, showing off her work on the front pages of such magazines as Elle and Vogue, and selling her cosmetics line to Estee Lauder. Bobbie’s natural style She became well-known for her natural style in the 1980s, which was hugely different to the colourful palettes used by many of her contemporaries. One of Bobbi’s top tips is to choose an under-eye concealer which is one or two shades lighter than your foundation. Gucci works with big names such as actresses Jennifer Garner and Demi Moore, whilst Laura is probably best-known for her range of make-up. Jackie is the make-up artist for Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor. Safety first When thinking about make-up products, there are many available to help you follow tips from the experts, but the top advice […]
Read MoreThe Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!
All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. The impact definitely wasn’t lost though. Here are our best dressed celebs from last night’s Met Gala. Let us know who gets your vote in the comments below. Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham Rihanna in Stella McCartney Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney Selena Gomez in Diane von Furstenberg Emma […]
Read MoreKaty Perry vs. Brandy…Who wore Fausto Puglisi better?
Two top songstresses. One dress. Yes, you know the drill. This week, in a rather colourful Fausto Puglisi ensemble, Katy Perry and singer Brandy are battling it out in the fashion stakes. Wearing a colourblock skirt and bell-sleeved top; the ladies cinched in their waists with a black waistband, creating the perfect hourglass silhouette. Slipping into this super-bright combo first was Katy Perry, who attended the pre-Grammy brunch way back in 2o12 in said look. Sporting a wacky blue bob and Charlotte Olympia piano heels; Katy went for a smattering of hand accessories to dress up her look. Heavily done-up eyes and a pop of pink lip colour rounded of the look nicely. But, catching up with the Unconditional singer was also another singer, Brandy, who wore the same outfit to the Haunted House 2 premiere, a few weeks ago. Opting for leopard print Gucci heels and a Solange Knowles-inspired, tightly curled hairdo; Brandy rounded off her look with super simple make up and a winning smile. So, who takes the style crown this week? We love both looks, but we’re going to give this one to Brandy! Her easy styling keeps all eyes on the attention-grabbing dress, whereby Katy’s look is screaming ‘LOOK AT ME!’ in too many places at once. Do you agree? Whose look wins for you? Read MoreWATCH Miranda Kerr’s debut H&M video!
We told you back in February that Miranda Kerr was announced as the brand spanking new face of H&M (she clearly didn’t let being let go from Mango get her down for too long!) and now it’s time to check out her first ever video ad campaign. And we think it’s pretty amazing! We think that most women will identify with the storyline, which in a nutshell goes like this: Set to the tune of Blondie’s epic Heart of Glass, Miranda’s friend pulls up outside her house in a taxi, but Miranda isn’t quite ready yet. Cue a very stylish montage consisting of Miranda trying on one cute outfit after another – and taking selfies, natch! – before eventually deciding on a pair of black leather shorts and a pale off-the-shoulder top. She sends the final selfie to her friend, she approves, and off they go! Check out the H&M spring/summer 2014 video below and let us know what you think. Do you think she “chose” the best outfit in the end?
Read MoreWATCH: The 86th Academy Awards (Oscars 2014): The best dressed!
The wait is finally over – the biggest red carpet day in Hollywood has officially arrived, and if you’ve been following us on Twitter, you’ll probably already know that we’ve been pretty excited about it! Popcorn, coffee, tablets (the technological kind), laptops and phones were on standby throughout the night to make sure we didn’t miss a single second of the 86th Academy Awards! We were waiting for 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o’s arrival with baited breath, and think she definitely saved the best dress for last. She stepped onto the red carpet in a custom-made Prada dress that came in a stunning duck egg blue colour, complete with the hottest accessory of the night: a sparkling head band! Cate Blanchett – another one of our red carpet faves – didn’t let us down with her sartorial choice either, looking sensational in a Giorgio Armani dress that she owned from the second she stepped out of her car. Charlize Theron wowed the crowd in a black Dior gown (it pains us to say it, but we think her Dior dress trumped Jennifer Lawrence’s one – we still love you though, J-Law!), as did Kate Hudson and Jessica Biel in their respective and sensational Atelier Versace and Chanel Couture dresses. And it goes without saying, but Angelina Jolie stole the show in her bedazzling Elie Saab Couture dress and more or less put everyone else in the shade when she and Brad Pitt arrived just in the nick of time. Once again, we think the stars outdid themselves on the red carpet this year, meaning we had a bit of a tough time narrowing down our ultimate favourites. Check out our highlights from the Oscars 2014 red carpet, and don’t forget to tell us who gets your best-dressed vote […]
Read MoreNia Long makes us green with envy on the NAACP Awards red carpet
We’ve been suckers for different shades of green and blue for as long as we can remember. Lupita Nyong’o made us fall in love with the bold colour all over again when she stepped out in a stunning Gucci dress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, and we’re thrilled that French Prince actress Nia Long has also got behind the colour too. The Fresh Prince actress rocked the 45th NAACP Awards red carpet in a floor-length plunging halter neck dress that came in an attention-grabbing green shade, no doubt turning heads as she strutted her stuff. And considering other stunners such as Bond girl Naomie Harris and Lupita Nyong’o were also in attendance, that’s a very bold statement indeed! And it wasn’t just the dress we had our eyes on; we had bling envy too thanks to the Danielle Queller art deco hexagon green earrings she matched so expertly with her dress. We are green with envy!
Read MoreFive minutes with Mathew Dixon – Director of Hudson Walker International
Mathew Dixon has 10 years of experience as the Director of Hudson Walker International – a high-end, eminent recruitment business specialising in the fashion, luxury and lifestyle industries. In this exclusive interview with My Fashion Life, we caught up with Mathew to talk fashion, brand integrity and staying relevant in an ever changing niche. What fuelled your decision to embark on a career in the luxury fashion recruitment industry? I wanted a career within the luxury sector that would give me the opportunity to work with inspirational people. Recruitment is a job that gives me the autonomy to work with key decision makers in some of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world. I am fortunate to be part of a collaborative process where a brand will often explain their strategy for the future and retain us to secure the very best talent in the market to make it happen. To see a candidate we have placed succeed in a brand and make a dramatic impact is incredibly gratifying. In a niche industry such as this, what common challenges do all luxury brands face? CEO’s continually talk about the ‘war for talent’. Luxury brands recruit their senior executives from an incredibly small pool of the available work force. All are looking for individuals with true vision and outstanding records of success throughout their careers. Such sought after people do not jump from one project to the next, but instead build a legacy wherever they work. Our role is to build long-term relations with the top 5% of candidates so if there is a truly exceptional opportunity within a brand, they are prepared to listen and discuss it with us. Outside of talent acquisition issues, the greatest challenge luxury brands have is protecting their brand integrity. With more and more […]
Read MoreThe 56th Grammy Awards 2014: The best dressed!
We were quite happy to sacrifice another night’s beauty sleep for the 56th Grammy Awards which took place in Los Angeles yesterday, as the red carpet was as riveting as ever! We’re eternally grateful for the invention of satellite TV and live streams, otherwise we wouldn’t have got the full “chain mail” effect of Taylor Swift’s stunning Gucci Premiere dress which was the talk of the red carpet and MFL HQ this morning. Another lady who got us talking for all the right reasons was Katy Perry, who gets the award for “most apt dress” thanks to the Valentino Couture music note dress she stepped out in. She gets extra points for lifting a look off the Couture Fashion Week runway so soon after its catwalk debut! Rita Ora decided to go for a short, sweet and sexy look on this occasion, swapping her usual gowns for a dazzling, reflective Lanvin dress. Well, if you have a body like Rita’s you might as well make the most of it and show it off, are we right? Read MoreJessica Chastain vs. Lupita Nyong’o…Who rocked the statement neck better?
Awards season has delivered many sartorial delights, so far. And two such delights dividing opinion at HQ are Lupita Nyong’o and Jessica Chastain’s looks from the SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, respectively, Both ladies stuck to the blue-green colour spectrum, with Jessica in a teal green Nina Ricci pre-fall 2014 gown, and Lupita sporting a stunning turquoise Gucci number that sent the fashion critics into overdrive! The styles of the gowns were similar – showcasing stunning neck detail, with a silhouette-skimming cut – which ultimately makes the task of choosing this week’s style champion even tougher. Jessica paired her gown with a side-parted up-do, bright lips and went accessory-free, while Lupita followed suit with bright make-up, small earrings and an evening-perfect cocktail ring. But, the unmissable detail on both these gown is the striking neckline adornment, which certainly cancels out the need for show-stopping necklaces. Although we lusted over both looks as they appeared on the red carpet, there can only be one sure winner…and this week, we’re crowning Lupita victorious! Not only was her Gucci gown the talk of the town at the Awards, but that embellished neck detail stole our hearts at hello, beating Jessica’s dreamy Nina Ricci effort by several style miles! Whose look wins for you?

The stars of Tinsel Town definitely went for glitz and glamour on the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet in Los Angeles last night! All of our favourite actresses who have been dominating this year’s awards ceremonies so far turned up and pulled out all the stops with their red carpet attire, once again making any chance of selecting an all-round best-dressed a practically impossible task. Blue was a hot hue on the red carpet last night, as Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong’o, the Jennifers (that’s Lawrence and Garner!), Mindy Kaling and E! presenter Kelly Oscbourne all rocked up in varying shades of the colour. From bright to sparkly to bold to understated – it was all there! New Girl’s Hannah Simone looked like a modern day fairytale princess in her white floating Marchesa dress, while newly married Kaley Cuoco wore a gorgeous gown by Vera Wang, the designer also responsible for her pink wedding dress a few weeks ago! Golden Globes time! Yep, it was the 71st annual Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills yesterday, and the red carpet was once again full of the biggest and best-dressed names in Hollywood. TV and films stars alike came together for one of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar, and to say they pulled out all the sartorial stops would be a bit of an understatement, as we don’t think our list of best-dressed celebs has ever been this big! Lupita Nyong’o definitely stole the show for us with her effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren caped look (we got flashbacks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress at the Oscars a few years ago) while Olivia Wilde and Camila Alves also made our jaws drop with their glittering gowns courtesy of Gucci Première and Dolce and Gabbana respectively. Unsurprisingly, Sofia Vergara went for the wow factor in a large Zac Posen dress, while Jennifer Lawrence went for a Dior dress, as was expected. We can’t blink without hearing about the on and off catwalk antics of Cara Delevingne and her model pals, so it’s safe to say that models are making a huge comeback. In fact they might just be bigger and more important than ever – and Elle US’s January issue is all about reiterating that point. Joan Smalls, one of our favourite young models of the moment, has finally landed her first Elle cover, and is looking fierce in a sequin Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress. Only a professional poser can pull off a look like that! Inside the mag, as well as posing in some more lust-worthy pieces from the likes of Chanel to Gucci, she opens up about the lack of diversity. “People hide behind the word aesthetic,” she began. “They say, ‘Well, it’s just that designer’s aesthetic.’ But when you see 18 seasons in a row and not one single model outside a certain skin colour…? “There are people in the industry who are advocates, who support diversity. And there are people who do not. I don’t get it. Beauty is universal. These doors have to open.” Anyone else think she should team up with Naomi Campbell and sort the diversity issue in the modelling world out once and for all? You can read the rest of the interview in Elle US’s January issue.

Read MoreCharlize Theron, we love your style
Charlize Theron’s red carpet appearances have been slightly limited this year – compared to the last few years at least – but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t left a lasting impression. Au contraire, we know we’re going to get nothing short of perfection when she steps out onto a red carpet… the proof is in our five favourite Charlize Theron looks of the year below. 1. It was her appearance on the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Inaugural Gala red carpet which prompted us to reminisce about Charlize Theron’s unrivalled red carpet style; she looked like a true Hollywood goddess in a black and gold Alexander McQueen dress. The attention to detail of the dress was breathtaking, and Charlize made it come to life even more! 2. All eyes were on Charlize Theron at this year’s 2013 Academy Awards, which was a pretty impressive feat considering the red carpet also featuring stand-out appearances from Oscar-winners Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway, among others. Her pure-white Dior dress was purely magical, and her hair, make-up and accessories were also flawless too. 3. If anyone can work a pixie crop like a true pro, it’s Charlize Theron. She’s championing one of our fave British designers Stella McCartney on this occasion, and as well as showcasing Stella’s fine work, is showcasing her own perfectly bronzed and toned pins at the same time too. Talk about a head-turning appearance! 4. We’re noticing a bit of a theme here, as Charlize has blown us away in yet another monochrome dress. What her outfits lack in colour they certainly make up for in terms of wow factor. This belted Jason Wu jumpsuit is no exception. 5. Looking like a statuesque work of art, Charlize Theron looked phenomenal in a strapless floor-length Gucci dress at the Cinema […]
Read MoreCheap fashion finds: Embarrassing or exciting? (Well, the Duchess of Cambridge approves!)
If you’re frowning at the title of this post, frankly, we don’t blame you. Who doesn’t love starting a dinner table conversation about their latest Gucci snaffle at the nearest designer outlet? Discount codes, flash sale sites and sample sales; we love scouring them, finding a bargain, and making a swift getaway with a bagful of cut-price (well, kind of) Fendi. And, as much as we do love a deal-sealing designer find with its price tag generously slashed, mid-weight high street brands equally excite our inner hoarder shopper. So, when the Mail Online reported that the Duchess of Cambridge was partial to a ‘fuss-free’ shopping spree at BicesterVillage (pictured above in the M Missoni coat she picked up at the outlet), we derived a sense of comfort from the royal seal of approval; that designer duds don’t have to come with stratospheric price tags. Even K Middy, with her lifetime supply of red carpet gowns and about as many Jenny Packham looks one can get through, loves a bargain-filled day, where she can thoughtfully part with her cash, rather than frittering it away in a manner often associated with high society. But, Kate’s shopping preferences also got us thinking about the exclusivity attached to designer shopping: as nonsensical as it sounds, do cut-price finds make designer gear a little embarrassingly status redundant? Does pitching yourself as a frugal fashion body almost tarnish your reputation as shopper? Certainly not for the Duchess. The thrill attached to sharing our latest fashion purchases, designer or high street, as many serial shoppers will know, is unmatched. And with the prominence of haul sharing tools a.k.a YouTube and Instagram, the pressure is often on to be the first to un-box a new pair of Valentino Rockstuds, or show off your latest Chanel Boy – pictured […]

As her highly successful show The Face has just started on Sky Living, we’ve found ourselves even more obsessed with Naomi Campbell than ever. And luckily for us and our aforementioned escalated Naomi fever, she is gracing The Edit’s latest issue in a skin-tight, sexy Michael Kors dress, complete with Karl Lagerfeld gloves. Naomi proves why she has remained in the modelling biz for so long by striking some unbeatable, unflawed poses in a number of stunning outfits from Oscar de la Renta, Maison Martin Margiela, Gucci, Haider Ackermann, Altuzarra and more. She also opens up about a number of subjects, one of which was obviously the UK version of The Face… “We’re filming the show in my home country, so I want it to be better than amazing,” she told the magazine. “I want people to really understand what the world of modelling is about, and how hard we work. “I like the mentoring aspect, as opposed to sitting in my chair and judging someone. It’s really rewarding to see the models transformed and it makes me feel like I’m doing something right. Whether my model wins or not, she will have learned and we will have helped her – that’s really why I came on the show.” As some of the strongest model characters from the show jumped at the chance to be on Team Naomi, we think she just might have a very good chance of securing the winning model. As the weather turns wet and miserable here in the UK, many of us are beginning to feel the longing to travel and get away from grey skies to a more inspiring landscape but that eternal question persists – what to wear? If you’re a fashion lover; Italy is a great choice for this time of year. In winter it is one of the most beautiful sights in the world, the cultural architecture standing out against white snow, cultural events and performances in historic theatres, and iconic tourist attractions without the usual big crowds. It’s also easy to get to from the UK, with airlines such as Monarch offering reasonably priced flights to Rome. It’s also one of the leading countries in the world in fashion design; home to infamous labels such as Gucci, Armani, Valentino, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana to name a few. So why not treat yourself too? Rome and Milan are fashion heaven and offer the perfect excuse to look as fashionable as the locals. Staple wardrobe to ensure you fit in? A pair of dark blue skinny jeans paired with a classic white t-shirt and a great fitting blazer. Oh and we’d recommend keeping yourself with warm with leg warmers or leggings especially if you’ll be doing a lot of sight seeing. Head to the churches in Rome for some culture, especially the idyllic St Peter’s Basilica, but don’t forget important clothing requirements. As a mark of respect its important to cover shoulders, cleavage and knees. Opt for a fitted coat (we love tweed jackets…a fave of Coco Chanel and us here at MFL too). Last but not least – footwear. We understand the temptation might be to wear a gorgeous pair of heels, and while there’s no denying the glamour of strolling through Italy […]
Read MoreWhen My Fashion Life met Carine Roitfeld
When we were invited to The May Fair Hotel for a tête-à-tête with former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, ahead of the release of her feature film, Mademoiselle C, a collective gasp was heard at HQ. The fashion documentary follows Roitfeld during the creation of her new magazine, CR Fashion Book. The idea of sharing the same breathing space as Karl Lagerfeld’s best friend and Tom Ford’s muse was dizzying, and we simply couldn’t swallow the sheer overload of Parisian polish we were about to be exposed to. Making our way to the ninth floor (after battling with a stubborn, A-lister proof lift) we finally entered the airy space, where the impeccably dressed name behind CR Fashion Book was waiting for us, a smile beaming across her face, her dainty silhouette wrapped in an extraordinary grey coat. Accompanied by director Fabien Constant, the mastermind behind Mademoiselle C, here are a few nuggets of golden wisdom Roitfeld delivered, complete with an adorable French lilt: On her best fashion moment: “I will never forget the first time we saw Tom Ford. He called me, maybe 20 times, and I said ‘Who is Tom Ford? What is Gucci? What is a loafer? It’s Boring.’ And then I would say ‘No, we have no time. Call back, maybe next month.’ One day, he asked if he could visit me at the studio, and I said hmm, OK. We were sweating, because there is no AC (air-conditioning) in Paris and it was July. Tom Ford came in and I sat up in my chair and said, ‘Maybe we can help you for the next shoot’ because he was so charming. Working with Tom Ford and Gucci changed my career, and it’s just because Tom Ford came in and he was very sexy looking!” On […]

Kate Bosworth is gracing the front of The Edit’s latest issue – and grace really is a key word as she looks ladylike, elegant, and well, graceful! Kate proves that she is a style chameleon and a dream for all red carpet designers to dress as she rocks every single outfit she is given – from Victoria Beckham to Gucci to Dolce and Gabbana and more! She also opens up about a number of topic too, including her relationship with her step-daughter, her evolving personal style, and of course, choosing a designer for her wedding dress… “There was no doubt about the designer,” she began, referring to Oscar de la Renta who she has asked to create her gown. But there was a feeling of, ‘Do I dance around the bridal thing and wear a dress I could wear for the red carpet?’ But lately I’m all about coming out of my comfort zone and challenging myself, so I decided to embrace the moment. It has been a real discovery of that part of myself.” You can read more in Net a Porter’s The Edit.

Ladies, don’t fear flats – flats are our friends! Not only are they super-comfy, and not only do they make running for the bus or train just that little bit easier, but they also look pretty gosh darn good with just about anything. They might not be our first choice for Glastonbury and other such muddy festivals, but when it comes to choosing a comfy pair of footwear for a brisk walk around London, a casual commute to the office, or a Cara Delevingne style tomboy chic look, they are there for us in their hundreds. To save you time, we’ve looked through those aforementioned hundreds and chosen five of our current favourite flats: 1. – Kate Middleton knows how powerful and leg-elongating a good nude heel can be, but that doesn’t mean a nude flat isn’t powerful either. Au contraire, this pointed flat is as elegant as it is versatile – we challenge you to find a harder working flat! Oasis metal insert pointed flat shoes, £38 2. – Princess Jasmine, eat your heart out. These rich, Arabian nights inspired deluxe flats from the shoe gurus at Jimmy Choo will have everyone green with envy when they clap eyes on them. Read MoreFendi chameleon snakeskin duffle tote: Yay or Nay?
With autumn/winter 2013 already setting the tone for accessories that’ll make the cut come September, snakeskin was a prominent trend. But we’re not talking traditional (read: boring, colourless) snakeskin. No. Updating the luxe skin for fall, every designer, from Marios Schwab to Gucci, were busy injecting rich hues of red, ochre and green into their designs, offering a new lease of life to upscale accessories, shoes and clothes alike. And leading us into next season nicely is the Fendi chameleon snakeskin duffle tote; an extravagant take on the trusty tote, and one that’s sure to turn heads, thanks to its vivid banana and black colourway and exquisite gold-toned logo hardware. Tempted to add it to your handbag collection, and see in autumn/winter with a splash of vibrant colour? We’ve rationalised its purchasing potential, and summed up the reasons for and against snapping up this piece of Fendi finery. Yay Luxe factor: If you’ve a penchant for luxury skins, then this snake leather tote is the ideal option. Statement investment: The chameleon tote is a twist on the classic Fendi duffle bag, so you’ll be investing in an iconic style, updated effortlessly for the new season. Practical: With a detachable belted crossbody strap for casually slinging over your shoulder, or top handles for when you want to up the chic ante, a 2-in-1 bag situation is always a winner! Nay Price: Yep, you guessed right. Sitting at the premium end of the accessory world, Fendi doesn’t translate to financial stability, as such! Priced extravagantly at £2,340, you’ll need solid friends for a (permanent) loan, or survive lunch-less at work for at least a year! Colour: If fruity hues haven’t been to your taste since Stella McCartney’s citrus invasion for spring/summer 2011, then the chameleon tote’s blaring banana tone won’t be too popular, either. Longevity: Applying the five-outfit rule, […]
Read More5 of the best handbags under £200
Handbags are inarguably one of a girl’s biggest investment buys; from the Hermès Birkin to the Mulberry Del Rey, the designer shelves are bursting with iconic bags that it can be quite overwhelming deciding what to spend your hard earned money on. However, getting your hands (see what we did there?) on a gorgeous piece of arm candy doesn’t always have to cost the earth. Here are five handbags that will turn heads without breaking the bank: 1. – This bag is perfect for those of us who are a little bit indecisive as there are plenty of colours on here to mix things up. Plus, it’s also great for ladies who love to keep their look simple and monochromatic, as this bag will add a subtle amount of colour to an otherwise colour-lacking ensemble. Dorothy Perkins black and ivory panel slouch bag, £25 2. – This beautiful bag comes in both black and grey (two staple, hard-working colours) – it’s versatile enough to wear with practically anything, and big enough to fit all you daily essentials inside. A perfect colour for the warmer weather too! Jaeger grey Lola bag, £175 3. – Louis Vuitton and Gucci aren’t the only ones who do monogram well; DKNY’s monogrammed offerings are always well received, and this orange canvas tote is no exception. What a great pop of colour for the summer season too! DKNY monogrammed canvas tote, £194 4. – We all know that a black bag never goes out of fashion, so there’s no reason this Faith bag won’t remain a permanent fixture in your wardrobe season after season. The stud detailing gives a classic black bag a grungy, rock-chick edge! Faith black studded wing tote bag, £44 5. – if you’re after a handbag to get you into the summer spirit, then look no further than this Michael […]

It’s already a busy week for the red carpet! Monday night saw the prestigious CFDA Awards take place in New York, and last night it was the turn of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards which were happening right here in London – at the Berkeley Square Gardens, to be exact. As we told you earlier, Victoria Beckham walked away with the ‘Woman of the Decade’ prize, but the best thing about her appearance (apart rom the fact that she took her very dapper looking son Brooklyn as her date) was her outfit. Sure, it was black which is big favourite with Posh, but it wasn’t one of her own designs – it was in fact Maison Martin Margiela which came as a pleasant surprise. Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays debuted her new longer hairstyle (and also showed us how her baby bump is progressing) on the red carpet, while new yummy mummy Fearne Cotton showcased her post-baby figure in a bright blue dress. Also brightening things up on the red carpet were Myleene Klass and Les Mis star Samantha Barks, who both wore bright fuchsia dresses, while Jessie J also went for an interesting, eye-popping blue ensemble. Kylie Minogue didn’t put a foot wrong on the red carpet either, as she followed in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by stepping out in a gorgeous peach dress. Peach is definitely having a moment! Take a look at some of our best dressed schlebs from last night’s event: Samantha Barks in Roland Mouret Rita Ora in Marchesa Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen Jessie J in Gucci Victoria Beckham in Maison Martin Margiela Kylie Minogue in Moschino Frankie Sandford in Halston Heritage Fearne Cotton Myleene Klass in Rachel Gilbert Jourdan Dunn Hayden Panettiere in Black Halo Eve Cara Delevingne Joanne Froggatt in Alberta Ferretti

Not on this occasion, anyway. This look is perfect for those who want to get in the spring/summer spirit, but don’t want to don a floral summer dress, flip flops and tourist-style straw hat. Day 2 of the Cannes Film Festival was pretty much just as glamorous as the first! Sonam Kapoor definitely went by the “go big or go home” mantra for the Jeune & Jolie premiere, as she stole the show in a larger than life Dolce and Gabbana dress. Her flawless, brunette, sleek and shiny side-swept locks complemented the dress perfectly, as did her gorgeous necklace and subtle make-up. Simply divine. Emma Watson is on fire, today. As well as looking like a vintage 1940s goddess on the cover of W magazine’s June issue, she also blew us away as she worked the red carpet in a jaw-droppingly stunning monochrome floor-length Chanel Couture dress. And we have a feeling you’re going to be seeing a lot of Freida Pinto on our best-dressed-at-Cannes pages over the next couple of weeks; the actress wowed the crowd in a hot pink Gucci number on Day 1, and she looked just as beautiful on the second day in a bedazzling Sanchita dress with a sexy thigh high split.

Let’s put it this way – everyone on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet looked ruddy fantastic! Instead of inundating you with every single look from the glamorous carpet, we’ll be bringing you our ultimate favourite looks from each day. Day 1 obviously attracted quite the well-dressed bunch of celebs, so we had a bit of a tough time narrowing down our faves. Freida Pinto definitely secures one of our best-dressed spots, as she oozed class and glamour in a floor-length, hot pink number designed by Gucci. An elegant red carpet appearance if ever there was one! Nicole Kidman also gets a mention in her three-quarter length Christian Dior Couture number as she was one of the brightest stars on the red carpet. Way to make a statement and embrace the season! Also wearing Christian Dior Couture was Carey Mulligan, and she definitely deserves a place on our list because we reckon this is the first time she has truly wowed on the red carpet while promoting The Great Gatsby. She always looks good don’t get us wrong, but we think this is a jaw-dropping, defining style moment on her Great Gatsby promo mission. Simple, elegant, bold – and we love the longer locks! Lana Del Rey looked like a true vintage goddess in her monochrome embellished dress – she definitely paid close attention to the Gatsby-inspired glamour theme, and we can’t fault her old Hollywood curls and flawless make-up! Bring on Day 2!

Want proof that Blake Lively is just like us? How does the fact that she and her mother fight over perfume, sound? As it was Mother’s Day in the good old US of A yesterday, Blake Lively sat down with the folks at Gucci to explain how she celebrated the big day with her family. And according to the new Mrs Ryan Reynolds, she and mama Lively fought over the Gucci Premiere perfume “like it was chocolate” the first time Blake brought it home. “She is the type of woman that will go up to somebody waiting in line at Disneyland and say ‘what are you wearing? That smells so good I must have that!’ And when she smelt my Gucci Premiere the bottle was gone from my shelf in two seconds – she stole it from me. It was like chocolate we were fighting over it! Read MoreThe Met Gala 2013 – PUNK: Chaos to Couture red carpet roundup!
Forget the Oscars, the biggest, most fashionable night of the year is of course the Met Gala (or Met Ball, whichever you prefer) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this time round the theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. This meant that there was an abundance of spikes, safety pins, short and fierce hair, and bags and bags of attitude… and the lucky A-listers who managed to secure an invitation to the prestigious event most definitely brought their sartorial A game on the red carpet. Celebs with short hair had a particularly easy ride as far as interpreting the punk theme was concerned as the likes of Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus really embraced it with their respective hairstyles. Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t let a little thing like long hair deter her from going all-out though, as she donned a fabulous Philip Treacy headpiece that was just as punk-rock as it was Carrie Bradshaw. Anne Hathaway finally got her Valentino red carpet moment this year – we definitely think she made up for not wearing his dress at the Oscars. We reckon she will be one of the hottest points of conversation, as she truly embraced the theme by channeling Blondie’s Debbie Harry and bleaching her hair blonde. We guess there was some truth in her “don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got, I’m still Jenny from the block” song lyrics from all those years ago, as it looks like Jennifer Lopez still shops on the good old High Street – the proof is in the pic above. J-Lo was spotted out and about wearing a bright and very on-trend cropped jumper from none other than Topshop. Sure she paired it with some not-so-high-street Gucci shoes, but we do love it when a celeb knows how to mix and match high street and designer pieces with such ease and class. We are giddy with excitement at the prospect of a Beyonce-covered British Vogue coming through our letter box – hurry up Mr Postman! Yep the one and only Mrs Carter has landed the British Vogue May cover, and is looking the picture of absolute perfection. We expected no less! As well as posing for some breathtaking pictures in array of top designer threads, Bey also opened up to the interviewer about her views on feminism… “That word can be very extreme,” she said. “But I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman. “I do believe in equality and that we have a way to go and it’s something that’s pushed aside and something that we have been conditioned to accept. But I’m happily married. I love my husband.” Way to go, Bey! As her songs so blunt, open and honest, we always look forward to Taylor Swift interviews because we know that’s exactly what we’re gonna get. The 23-year-old country singer has been chosen as InStyle UK’s April cover star, and can be seen posing in some soft and almost angelic pics in an array of top designer gear from the likes of Giles and Gucci to name but a few. Taylor opens up to the mag about a number of different subjects, including friends, censoring herself, writing songs, and her fears, among other things.. “My fears circle around me making the wrong choices and messing this up for myself,” she said. “I don’t wanna end up being awful and intolerable. Alone. Laying in a marble bathtub by myself, like sad, with a glass of wine just complaining that my life ended up alone because I pushed everyone away because I thought I was too good to hang out with anybody. “The typical Hollywood sad cliché of the poor lonely starlet with no one because she put up all these walls and didn’t trust anyone. That’s my fear. And that’s why I live my life the way I live my life because I’d so much rather feel everything than end up like that.” Yikes! Alexi Lubomirski had the pleasure of photographing the new Mrs Ned Rocknroll (Richard Brandon’s nephew, fyi) in an array of stunning outfits courtesy of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Roland Mouret, each picture just as stunning as the last. As well as taking our breath away in her gorgeous editorial, the actress also opened up to the mag about how the mistakes she made in the past have shaped her new life, as well as what it was like meeting The Queen when she was awarded her CBE. “Oh my God, she looks amazing,” she gushed. “Beautiful skin – and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress.” And let’s not forget the dress that Kate herself wore on that momentous day – designed by none other than Sarah Burton…. “I do think Sarah Burton is a genius,” she said. “And it’s remarkable what she’s done, moving into a role like that, and really keeping it McQueen – that’s hard. I mean, that’s like taking over playing Hamlet and playing it exactly the same. It’s just incredible. She’s given it a touch of herself without taking anything away from it.” That’s a pretty spot on description if you ask us! You can catch more of Kate Winslet’s wise words in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, out tomorrow!

Want a one stop shop for all things HOT and NOT this month? Our fashion chart rounds up the most talked about things in the frantic world of fashion, from the ‘Russian pack’ to Rihanna at River Island on Oxford Street, to Cara Delevingne’s questionable footwear choice and the headgear revolution that’s getting out of control. We’re pretty sure we haven’t missed out any vital fash flashes, but if you’re in the know, and think we could do with extending our list of what’s au fait, and what’s strictly non, non, then go ahead and let us know! UP Elena Perminova The 26-year-old wife of Russian media mogul Alexander Lebdev, and darling of every credible street style blog, Elena Perminova (and her formidable wardrobe) is a lady after our own hearts. Wearing couture like it ain’t no thing, snagging exclusive FROW seats and a model herself, it’s safe to say she outdoes rival street style mavens and models, alike! It’s finally here! The biggest night in Hollywood (and the first date we earmark in our calendars and diaries every year without fail) is finally here! Ladies and gentlemen, the 85th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars, are happening right now and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been live tweeting all the red carpet arrivals for the past few hours – a big thank you to each and every one of you who joined the conversation and made it a memorable night – so now it’s time to sit back and reflect on some of our favourite looks of the night with the main ceremony taking place on our televisions in the background. Talk about multi-tasking! There were a few ladies in particular whose red carpet looks we were waiting with baited breath to see, and thankfully not a single one of them disappointed us with their sartorial decisions. Nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway looked breathtaking in their respective Dior Haute Couture, Armani Prive and Prada dresses, each going for different but equally stunning looks. We heard on the grapevine that Anne Hathaway was due to wear Valentino but changed her mind a matter of hours before stepping onto the carpet. Although we think she looked incredible in her Prada dress, we can’t help but wonder what Valentino had in store for her! We think the “go big or go home” mantra applies to the Oscars more than any other award ceremony of the year, which is why we applaud the ladies who really take it seriously. A Dior-clad Jennifer Lawrence looked like a true Princess, which is certainly one way of interpreting the dress code, while Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Catherine Zeta Jones and Adele were just some of the ladies who went for the sparkle […]

Just Cavalli was just the print-tastic, wild infusion we expect it to be, with Georgia May Jagger (the face of the new Just Cavalli fragrance, in case you forgot) closing the show in a stunning red and black piece. We love that voluminous hair she, and the rest of the models, sported. And speaking of stunning catwalk appearances, we were thrilled to see Adriana Lima walk the runway for the Prada show in a sleek and sexy black number – she just doesn’t stop wowing us! Read MoreWill Gatsby gear be the film-fash inspiration of the year?
[noskim] Film releases and fashion trends go hand in hand. Last year, the Hunger Games – and Jennifer Lawrence – gave brown leather jackets and flat boots a boost when black biker jackets and heels ruled the roost. This year, we’re spending plenty of time pondering where our next film-fash inspo might be coming from. One fairly safe bet is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, which is due for release in May. Baz loves a bit of bling in the costume department – remember Nicole Kidman in that sparkly corset and top hat combo in Moulin Rouge? So, when you take into account Luhrman’s love of the lavish coupled with the seriously stylish Ivy League leavers the film follows and throw into the mix the fact everything takes place at the start of the roaring twenties – you should get film-fash gold. Yes, we are already getting in a bit of a Gatsby flap. After convincing us we could pull off a crop, Carey Mulligan – as Daisy Buchanan – is now set to start a scarf revival. Luckily she’s teaming it with a sleek, blonde, bob – a style more than a handful of us already fancied for summer. Style yourself in Ms Daisy’s footsteps and choose classy kimonos and trousers, dresses embellished with lace and sequins, feathers and heavenly headwear. Of course, you don’t need to be as full-on as Ms Daisy. We like this Alice By Temperley lace number. It’s a little shorter than 20s styles but the embroidered décolletage and mesh sleeves make it classy and easy to wear and it’s not quite as in your-face bling as some of the sequin dresses in the movie, which might not be quite so wearable. You could wear this with kitten heels or even bring it up to […]

Grammy time! The red carpet got rolled out on both sides of the pond yesterday; while the biggest acting stars in the world jetted into London for the BAFTAs, the singing sensations headed to sunnier climes (Los Angeles, to be exact) for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. We were looking forward to seeing what the girls ended up wearing, given the stricter dress code they had to work with this year. We expected a few of them to be rebellious and flash the flesh anyway (if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it) but they actually more or less behaved themselves… save for a few plunging necklines and J-Lo’s dangerously high slit dress. If you joined us last night for our live-tweeting you might remember that we got particularly excited by the arrival of pop Princess Rihanna, who stuck to the rules and went for a phenomenal red custom Azzedine Alaia gown, and music Queen Beyonce who defied expectations and went for a modern monochrome pant suit by LFW-fave Osman… and totally working it, may we add! Check out the full list of our best-dressed below; and as usual, don’t forget to vote for your favourite! Florence Welch is always rocking something pretty enviable… whether it’s something quirky and avant garde while she’s out and about, or exclusively designed by Gucci while on stage (her tour wadrobe was famously designed by the Italian fashion House) you can bet your bottom dollar that she turns heads for all the right reasons. This is why we were pretty chuffed to discover that we could get some Flo style of our own, as the Florence and the Machine singer has just created her very own art-deco capsule jewellery collection. The pieces were reportedly inspired by the artwork from the band’s Ceremonials album, which we think is great as they’re instantly more personal! Fans and fashionistas alike can purchase the geometric creations from her ‘Flotique’ online right now. Best thing is, they won’t break the bank as prices range from just £20 to £50. Click here to check out the pieces in all their glory. What do you think of Flo’s foray into jewellery designing? Are you impressed or should she just stick to the day job?
