Geri Halliwell’s boring in body-con Herve Leger

Geri Halliwell’s style choices are the fashion equaivalent to a broken record. And it’s definitely time to change that tune. Ever since she first stepped out at the Brit Awards in that now iconic Union Jack flag dress, Geri has stayed faithful to bodycon dresses. And her appearance at the Sony Radio Academy Awards last night at London’s Grosvenor House was no different. Posing for the paps in her usual curve-clinging attire, Geri may have shown off her svelte figure but she made us yawn in the process. Her look wasn’t a total disaster, let’s be fair, but the oversized platforms and hot pink bandage dress by Herve Leger look tired and dated for the new season. This Spice Girl is pushing 40 now – maybe she should take a leaf out of Jennifer Anniston‘s book who has conquered the art of being sexy yet subtle… just a thought. What do you think of Geri Halliwell’s look? [poll id=”108″]

Royal Wedding Fashion: who wore what

In case you missed it (er, where have you been?), Prince William and Kate Middleton got married on Friday in what was, quite possibly, the grandest ceremony we’ve ever witnessed. Pulling out all the pageantry and pearls, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as they’re now known, celebrated the most-talked about event of the century in true regal style – but they weren’t the only ones who made the effort. Guests – including the royal family and those sitting high enough up on the social ladder to be invited – put on a pretty spectacular performance in the sartorial department with enough fascinators to form a faction, and naturally, our eyes were cast firmly over the fashion spotlight. Here’s our run-down of who wore what to the royal wedding… Pippa Middleton Maid of honour and sister of Kate, Pippa wore a white silk Alexander McQueen dress designed by Sarah Burton. With a scooped cowl neck and delicate lace trim – not to mention an incredibly pert bum – she was the envy of pretty much every woman in the world (except, perhaps, for Kate). Carole Middleton Kate’s mum opted for a powder blue dress coat by Catherine Walker, which sat wonderfully against her skin and matching hat – a proud mother and a proud choice. The Queen Dressed head to toe in lemon, Queen Elizabeth chose a matching dress and overcoat by Angela Kelly. Who knew the Queen was so on-trend? Camilla Parker Bowles Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, chose a pale blue and nude gradient look from Anna Valentine, the designer who created her 2005 wedding dress when she married Prince Charles. Princess Eugenie & Beatrice Princess Eugenie opted for a blue Vivienne Westwood dress which unfortunately did little to flatter her figure whilst her sister opted for […]

Love or Hate: Missoni Women for Women T-shirt

It’s very rare you get a garment created by a high-end designer for a high-street price, and if it also helps to raise money for charity, I’m a happy girl. Vivienne Westwood did it for Comic Relief earlier this year, and now Missoni has done it for Women for Women – the charity dedicated to helping women who have suffered violence, torture and abuse in war and conflict. This clean white Missoni T-shirt is printed with multi-coloured eyes and gems and comes complete with a printed signature, too. Plus, the scoop neck and close fit makes it super flattering and a perfect summer staple. Made from bamboo viscose, it’s also in a material that I don’t believe I have in my wardrobe. It’ll look great with basic jeans or shorts in the daytime, or even thrown over swimwear on holiday, so if you’re in search of a great summer T-shirt, you might have just found it in this Missoni number. Plus you’ll be helping a very worthwhile charity – bonus! Missoni Women for Women T-shirt, £39, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

AW11 trend report

We haven’t even started wearing our spring strings yet and already everyone’s talking about autumn – we don’t blame them, though, good things are coming to a closet near you next season. If you want to stay ahead of the frolic (and let’s face it, it’s no fun coming last), we’ve rounded up the hottest trends from the autumn/winter 2011 runways that you won’t want to miss. Stay psyched, we’ll be wearing them sooner than we’d like to admit… Spots Marc Jacobs, David Koma, Stella McCartney Go dotty, literally, for spots and circles next autumn as anything round rules the runway – perennial polkas and Dalmatian drops included. Marc Jacobs layered spotted separates and accessories, David Koma couldn’t resist adding pom poms and Stella McCartney’s laser-cut circles became infectious. Colour Jaeger, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders Good news if you’re a partial to a colour pop, the autumn runways picked up where spring stopped and sent a riot of colour to rival a rainbow. Reds add a contemporary edge to classic camels while vivid primary pops break up black and brighten warm autumnal shades. Monochrome Julien Macdonald, Giles, Louis Vuitton Not braving the bold? Try black and white, instead. When colour wasn’t clattering the catwalk, monochrome was making just as much of an impact, especially at Julien Macdonald where signature jewel shades were swapped for gothic blacks and at Giles and Louis Vuitton where bondage-style straps took the darkside to the depths of dominatrix. Texture Marni, Aquascutum, Fendi If you’re partial to sequins, suede and fur, here’s your chance to wear it all at once. Texture is all or nothing next season and more, as they say, is more. Sumptuous silks, soft fur, lace and leather team together for a luxe look, tweeds and knits offer a smattering of the countryside, […]

Kate Moss turns into a stalker for Comic Relief

One celebrity definitely getting into the charitable spirit of things for this year’s Comic Relief fundraiser is global supermodel Kate Moss. Not only is the British beauty getting married this summer to long-term boyfriend Jamie Hince, she’s also found time to star alongside the charity’s mascot, Misery Bear, in her very own short film. “I am always really happy to get involved on Red Nose Day and it was an honour to work with Misery Bear! Comic Relief is a fantastic charity and is close to my heart,” says Moss. Playing a rather obsessive Misery Bear fan, Moss can be seen inviting the unsuspecting bear in for a drink after he knocks on her front door in the hope of drumming up support for the charity. But unbeknown to him, things suddenly go from bad to worse, as the Red Nose Day mascot discovers the model has created a shrine dedicated to him in her bedroom, complete with candles and pictures galore – even one of the two on their imaginary wedding day, reports Vogue UK. Talk about a celebrity stalker, eh? We do love it when famous faces make a fool of themselves – all in the name of charity of course! Image credit

Anne Hathaway’s 8 Oscar dresses: which was best?

The pressures of hosting the Oscars – especially when you’re the youngest host in the awards’ history – must have got to Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe at the 83rd Academy Awards last night. With no less than eight outfit changes, she left little room for disappointment in the sartorial stakes, switching between a vintage Valentino here and an Aetelier Versace couture there thanks to Rachel Zoe’s styling assistance. Sure, she didn’t break barriers, but she name-dropped enough designers to be worthy of an Oscar herself. Here’s a breakdown of what she wore – let us know which look you loved best in the poll below. 1. Valentino Arriving on the arm of the designer, Anne arrived on the red carpet in a red Valentino gown – from the label’s couture archive, no less. 2. Givenchy Couture Taking to the stage to kick-start the ceremony, Anne chose an ivory chiffon gown with crystal embellishment by Givenchy Couture. 3. Lanvin From Goddess to guy, a quick change into a le smoking-style tuxe from Lanvin and crystal Brian Atwood pumps broke up Anne’s gaggle of gorgeous gowns (albeit briefly). 4. Vivienne Westwood Back to the ballgowns – Anne slipped into a black corset feather-printed tiered dress by Vivienne Westwood for her third look. 5. Oscar de la Renta He was missed on the red carpet last night, but Anne championed the iconic American designer in a metallic gold form-fitting dress with flapper-style fringing (which she demonstrated with a shimmy). 6. Atelier Versace Back to red – this time wine coloured – in a strapless floor-length gown with embellishment across the bodice by Aetelier Versace 7. Armani Prive Swapping shimmer for simplicity, Anne changed into a gloss-finished cobalt blue column dress by Armani Prive for her penultimate look. 8. Tom Ford In the ultimate show-stopper, […]

Golden Globes 2011: worst dressed

You’ve seen the sartorial highs from last night’s 68th Golden Globe Awards, now it’s time for the ones you’ve all been waiting for – the downright disasters. From the all-too-familiar faces to the un-stylish surprises, cue the giggles and gasps as we reveal the worst dressed celebs on yesterday’s red carpet… There’s just no saving Jennifer Love Hewitt (above) from this awful pale blue oversized origami Romona Keveza dress – the colour and stiff structure just don’t cut the sartorial mustard on Jen. Despite most of Twitter raving over this, words fail us when it comes to Halle Berry’s Nina Ricci netted LBD – perhaps someone should tell her she’s not cat Woman any more. We’ve come to expect nothing less than English eccentricity from Helena Bonham Carter, but it looks as though Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter has rubbed off all too much on the actress in this mixed-print net-skirted Vivienne Westwood dress, Lennon shades and mis-matched shoes. Shame neither of them matched her dress. Christina Aguilera hasn’t been scoring all that highly in the style stakes lately, and unless she was trying to look like a mermaid, we’re sorry to say this Zuhair Murad frock hasn’t helped her much. Another miss for designer Zuhair Murad, who doesn’t seem to be having much luck at the this year’s Golden Globes – just look at this whiter-than-white wedding-inspired gown Jennifer Lopez wore on the night, complete with a diamond-encrusted cape. Always one to break the mould, Tilda Swinton‘s efforts to do things differently in new-season Jil Sander didn’t pay off this time – the lemon skirt and crisp white shirt looks awkward on the androgynous actress. Last but not least is (regrettably) American actress Julianne Moore – who made quite the fashion faux pax in this ill-fitting one-puff-sleeved Lanvin dress – […]

Marie Claire and Kinder Aggugini collaborate for English National Ballet

English National Ballet is turning 60, and to celebrate its birthday milestone, must-read mag Marie Claire and renowned British designer Kinder Aggugini have collaborated to create a modern and magical take on three famous ballet costumes. Making their debut in the magazine’s January issue (out now), Kinder’s designed three bespoke outfits for a trio of iconic female ballet characters: The Nutcracker‘s Sugar Plum Fairy, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, where tutus are looped with mohair and adorned with ribbons, and wisps of over-dyed chiffon are layered over floral embellishments and studded with crystals to create a modern fashion makeover. The Sugar Plum Fairy Sleeping Beauty And Aggugini, who’s worked for some of the most theatrical brands in fashion, varying from Vivienne Westwood to Versace, was the perfect choice for Marie Claire’s fashion forward collaboration. “It was a dream come true,” said the young designer. “To have creative carte blanche was so exciting. I wanted to create something fresh for the dancer’s costumes in these traditional roles, getting away from the traditional.” See his vision for yourself in January’s issue of Marie Claire, on shelves now – it’s a fashionably festive treat. Five minutes with Kinder Aggugini

Before launching his own label in 2005, Italian born designer Kinder Aggugini, had built a sparkling career as the silent talent behind look after look from a number of big hitters including John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Versace and Calvin Klein. He’s described his signature style as ‘Coco Chanel marries Sid Vicious’ and on reflection that seemingly odd match does make sense. Aggugini, with his bold splashes of colour, has the showmanship and swagger of the latter, but underneath are clothes that most women would love to wear – beautifully cut, versatile and unashamedly expensive. It’s a unique style that has won him plenty of fans. His debut at London fashion week last year garnered rave reviews from respected critics including Hilary Alexander who described his clothes as “magical”. His last collection was inspired by one of most intriguing and controversial women of Napoleonic Paris – Madame Recamier – combining gorgeous empire line silhouettes with a punk mentality. In just three seasons, Aggugini has become one of the hottest names on the London Fashion Week roster and he has the busy schedule to match. But he found a few minutes to answer our questions… When did you first realise you wanted to be a designer? My mum taught me how to sew at eight and I started tapering my schoolmate’s jeans, which in turn got me a great place in the football team. I knew than that making clothes produced excellent results.  What is it about fashion that keeps you coming back?  The thrill of the new and the amazing feeling of creating something that moves people. What is the best and worst thing about working in fashion? The hours. What have been the highs and lows of your career thus far? Seeing the line up just before the show begins. Not being […]

Andreas takes co-ordination to the extreme

Andreas Kronthaler matches his underwear to his outfit. The 42 year old fashion designer, who has been married to Dame Vivienne Westwood, 68, for 17 years, is adamant whatever he is wearing must match, and alters his briefs if he changes his outerwear. Vivienne explained: “He has amazing attention to detail. For example, Andreas always changes his underwear according to what he’s wearing. That’s very important to him. Whereas I don’t bother wearing any these days.” Andreas met Vivienne at the Vienna Academy of Arts, where he began studying aged 18, and admits he was clueless about the industry before she came into his life.

She hoarded all her 60s clothes there, along with the tiaras she won as a beauty queen, and I would steal her wedding dress to wear around town.
