Get the look: Neve Campbell in Moschino

Stars gathered at Hampton Court last weekend, for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation party. Attendees came together to show their support and raise money for the foundation, which is committed to the control and elimination of childhood cancer. Among those in attendance at the gala were: committee member Hugh Grant, designers Matthew Williamson and Patrick Cox, models Yasmin Le Bon and Lara Stone, and actresses Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson and Angelica Huston. Scream star Neve Campbell also made an appearance, looking gorgeous in a long-sleeved mini dress from Moschino’s forthcoming AW2010 collection. Showing off those enviable pins and sporting a new, heavy fringe, Campbell looked groomed to perfection in the gold-trimmed number and statement gold cuff. We quite fancy recreating this simple yet stylish look ourselves, although since we don’t have the patience to wait for Moschino’s next collection, we’ve come up with a few suitable alternatives that will help to achieve a similar look… Dress by Milly (£335) available at Net-a-Porter. Cuff by Kara by Kara Ross (£225) available at Matches. Clutch by Pied a Terre (£79 £47.50) available at House of Fraser. Shoes by Christian Louboutin (£695) available at Net-a-Porter. Whitney Port in Rachel Roy

Star of The City and general girl-about-town Whitney Port looks stunning in a canary yellow dress and bejewelled shoes, as she attends NYLON magazine’s young Hollywood party. Whitney manages to bring together just the right amounts of ‘fashion’ and ‘polished’ in this youthful yet sexy and style-driven look. Her bold yellow tube dress from Rachel Roy is a smart choice – it looks simple yet striking against her perfectly finished blonde hair and pale skin. With her sparkling multi-coloured Guiseppe Zanotti shoes Whitney shows her fashionista credentials by not being afraid of going for an eye-catching contrast with her footwear. Despite looking gorgeous Whitney had lots of competition from other stylish young attendees including Shenae Grimes, Amber Rose and Brit Peaches Geldof – but with her bright dress and enviable heels Whitney’s really pulled-together look won us over. For a similar look add a burst of colour to your wardrobe with this jersey dress from ASOS. Keep hair and makeup perfectly polished and add a pair of statement sparkle heels and you’re ready to go ahead and join the young and stylish Hollywood pack. Buy here now!

Round the table with Henry Holland and Gemma Cairney

As you well know, here at MFL we’re rather partial to a fashion TV series or two, and none more so than Frock Me with TK Maxx, back on TV screens in the UK for a second series to brighten up the bleakest Sunday mornings. Hosted by super-style icon Alexa Chung, London designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 style expert Gemma Cairney, Frock Me follows fashion through its rampant relationship with music as it highlights top trends for the season, chats to the very best in the business, gives DIY styling tips, and shows you how people on the street are working – and styling – the season’s best trends… in a nutshell. Naturally, we were obliged to catch up with Henry and Gemma when TK Maxx invited us to London’s Zetter hotel last week where, alongside a few other bloggers, we quizzed the pair on all things Frock Me and fashion. We’ve seen three shows so far, can you tell us what we can expect from the rest of the series? HH: There’s a show about romance, there’s a show about Americana, there’s a show about festivals; so there’s those theme-shows, and you can expect to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor, you can expect to see Gabriella Cilmi, we’ve had the Future Heads, Marina and the Diamonds, Paloma Faith – she was good, and everyone did live too. And then there’s some very ridiculous sketches… GC: We’ve got prints in Bristol [just aired] which was fun, I actually put a couple up against each other for the Frock Off, and the girl really looks like Alexa so that was good. And then we’ve got in Birmingham Americana – we ended up with about 200 people surrounding us in the middle of town for the final section, so we were kind of […]

Samuel L. Jackson in Armani

King of Cool Samuel L. Jackson has been showcasing his sartorial style once again as he attended the US premier of Iron Man last week. Along with his signature round glasses and cap combo he was decked head to toe in Giorgio Armani, sporting a casual ensemble of relaxed tailoring. Mixing a Nehru style jacket with classic Armani jeans, Samuel opts for a more casual look than we’re used to on the red carpet – proving that he doesn’t need to be suited and booted to work that impeccable A-list style. The outfit is set off with a flash of cobalt blue in the form of his shagreen print tennis shoes – who said trainers were a no-go for premier-party footwear? For a similar look you can pair this military feel linen jacket from Cold Method at My-wardrobe with blue jeans and a cool pair of your favourite trainers. As for Samuel L. Jackson’s effortless sense of style, well that’s just something you’ll have to figure out how to get yourself.

Five minutes with Elle’s Executive Fashion Editor, Stacey Duguid

Stacey Duguid has led a life most girls would die for. After stints at Paul Smith, Giorgio Armani and Prada, Stacey was asked by Elle’s editor Lorraine Candy to join her favourite magazine, and now proudly takes her place as Executive Fashion Editor at Elle. Having met , and worked with , some of the most prestigious people in fashion, she doesn’t miss one trendy trick. In between jetting to and fro from fashion weeks, blogging for ASOS.com and writing her new book, Stacey found a few minutes to talk to us about her fashion life. What made you embark on a career in fashion, and how did you get to where you are today? I had a rather unsuccessful stint at Art school in Manchester where I was studying for a Fine Art degree, it was the early 90’s and the legendary nightclub the Hacienda was in full swing and I chose clubbing over art.  I moved to London a year later not knowing a single soul.  I took a job at Harvey Nichols on the shop floor and started interning for a PR agency who handled fashion label Red Or Dead every Friday for free. It was whilst working at the PR agency I attended my first ever fashion show, I was so young but remember it like it was yesterday; the fashion fire was well and truly ignited!  I went from emptying bins and sorting out post to working on the Red or Dead account pretty quickly and was able to give up working at Harvey Nichols.  My time on the shop floor was well spent though; I met so many people who are now all in very senior fashion jobs around the globe namely Chloe, Calvin Klein and InStyle. Interestingly during this time I applied to […]

Make like a flapper at Prohibition

Fancy dress can be stylish. But usually that isn’t the point. Turning up looking glam while your pals look ridiculous is against the friendship code of honour. It’s bad form. But not when you go to a club night themed around a particular era. Whatever the decade or theme, it’s an opportunity to glam up as much as you possibly can. And perhaps there are none quite so glamorous as London-based 1920’s night Prohibition.

Fashion’s Night Out – London

While the Fashion’s Night Out event organised by Vogue in New York may have attracted most of the media attention, here in London the event was equally fun and a unique opportunity to meet some of our favourite designers and fashion icons. With so many designers about, this was not an occasion to dress down for, but the champagne and cocktails being served in almost every shop taking part certainly helped ease the pain of walking around Mayfair for three hours in stupidly high heels. For me the highlight of the night was talking to three of my favourite men in fashion – Christopher Kane, Osman Yousefzada and Rupert Sanderson. Sanderson, who is also celebrating three years of residency in Bruton Place, cleared away all of his beautiful shoes to turn his shop into a painting studio. Guests were invited to paint a white square of card and all the squares will be laid out on the nearby Berkley Square to create the largest high heel ever which Sanderson will photograph from a helicopter, sending signed prints to all the participants. Dressed in pilot-style khaki overalls, Sanderson seemed to be having a good time and was completely lovely. Why was his event not focused on selling shoes? He wanted to do something fun and this was the first thing that popped into his head, a celebration of shoes and “our manor” (the London equivalent of “his hood”). Then it was on the Bruton Street to Juicy Couture, Diane von Furstenburg, Matthew Williamson, Stella McCartney and Kenzo.  With so many lovely clothes and people to look at and champagne on offer in all of the stores, it was hard not to feel like spending money. And that was pretty much the point of the evening. Poor Matthew Williamson was unable to […]

NY Fashion Week SS10: Day 6 Recap

The highlight of my day today was going backstage at J. Mendel. Love! The hair, the dresses, the nails, the makeup everything was utter perfection. Gilles Mendel seemed so cool and composed and he was looking wonderfully dapper (even though as far as I could tell he wasn’t wearing socks with his leather shoes!).

The ultimate Sex and the City shoe

I don’t know about you, but Carrie Bradshaw does tend to annoy me somewhat. Every sentence born out of her keyboard seems to begin with: ‘I couldn’t help but wonder’ or ‘I got to thinking’; she loves the melodrama a little too much, and she chose Big over Aiden! What was that about? I know, I know, it’s not the real world – I should really get a hold of myself. But the fact of the matter is, I think I’m using these petty arguments to conceal my true annoyance – Miss Bradshaw’s shoe collection. Correction: one pair of shoes in particular – the “Something Blue” satin pumps from none other, than Manolo Blahnik. Not only does Carrie own these shoes, but she is proposed to with them (I’m sorry to any of you that haven’t yet seen the film… where have you been?). In all fairness, in the moment I would probably prefer a ring, but these on the side would do just fine. Actually, it wasn’t until I saw these shoes in person last weekend at a party, that I realised how striking they really are. The entire room paused (well every female did anyway) to stare in awe as the girl glided in, and I for one could not tear my eyes away. If possible, I even felt a little starstruck. Sad isn’t it? These babies are available at Neiman Marcus for a cool $945. While I was admiring the shoes, I noticed the woman wearing them also had small kink toys attached to her purse. It seemed like an odd accessory, but I guess everyone has their own style. The contrast between the elegant pumps and edgy toy was amusing to me. But hey, you do you! The shoes really are stunning works of art. I […]

Wedging your bets – which wedges are the best investment?

The only way to balance the proportions of a swing coat, high-waisted flares, or a mini-shift are with wedges and platforms, both are here to stay (for the summer at least). Not only are they chic, add height and make your legs look fabulous, but they are comfortable enough to wear all day and party all night thanks to tougher, wider heels and platform soles. So where should one start? What colours should we be buying and where can we find them? The answer is everywhere, but these are my top five: Dorothy Perkins: Grey suede round-toes with a wooden wedge – they’re a bargainous £25, and are the perfect way to bring high fashion into a working wardrobe. www.dorothyperkins.co.uk
