I try and I try and I try to be good and save my pennies but Topshop is a bad place. A bad, bad place that wants to see me fail. Read MoreHelmut Newton: Capture Yourself at Topshop
With the Autumn Winter 2008 collections awash with uber-glam sophistication and fierce femininity, its no wonder that fashion-forward brand, Topshop, has teamed up with the Helmut Newton estate to showcase the controversial and influential photographer’s ‘Newton Machine’. The ingenious ‘Newton Machine’ was first developed in the 1970s, designed to take fashion pictures without a photographer being present. Helmut Newton’s idea behind this was to capture the subject as they see themselves, ‘drawing parallels to today’s obsession with self-image’.

With the impending onset of summer (ha!) comes the inevitable announcement of those annual summer trends that will never go away (nautical stripes or ethnic prints anyone?). Lets take the ever-present ‘safari’ trend – predictable and a little bit tired if you go down the old khaki jacket route; far more exciting if you take a walk on the wild side with all those beauties of the animal kingdom.

The fifth collection from the Kate Moss for Topshop line hits stores today. As with previous collections, the design team at Topshop have taken their cue from Kate’s wardrobe. The result? 50’s inspired dresses, floral and star prints, hints of lace, vintage inspired pieces, skinny jeans (no surprise), a couple of micro hotpants, and a confusing, fringed suede waistcoat.

High street fashion has done it again, using designer duds as inspiration for their own more affordable, yet no less fashion-forward, lines. This time our beloved Topshop has created the Yves St Laurent Paint Splattered Tank. Although my budget dictates that I nearly always go High Street instead of high-end, in this case if money were of no concern I’d opt for the latter. The YSL piece has a better colour balance with its mixture of yellow, blue, red and purple, and splatters understated enough to make this top office-appropriate.

January may be one of the worst months of the year in the Northern hemisphere; the cold weather and overcast skies get to even the sunniest of dispositions and fill us with the desire to spend the rest of winter wrapped in a duvet. But sadly things like uh… jobs or school usually prevent us from having that luxury…except on the weekends of course. But a cure for the winter doldrums lies in a cute outfit!

Does the neckline on this dress of Kate Moss with Johnny Depp look familiar to you? It did to me too….it bares a striking resemblance to a piece from her collection due to hit stores soon. While perusing an amazing second hand book shop in Notting hill last Monday I came across a biography of Johnny Depp and being the fan that I am it would have been a sin not to flick through. Well lo and behold one of them pictured him with Kate, both looking effortlessly cool. (see above). Mouth open, I couldn’t believe that Topshop had blatantly copied the design of this dress. I understand the collection is intended to imitate Kate’s sense of style but surely Topshop are credible enough to not have to shamelessly copy the design of this neckline so obviously. Does anyone know who the designer of the original is and what year this picture was taken? [Images: johnnydeppfan.com & TFS]

H&M and Target have made it their mission to team up with as many top designers of the moment and bring to us cheap yet chic fashion, but Topshop has gone one better and if the rumours are correct will be hiring Kate Moss for £1 million to design her very own range. Due to hit the shops early next year, it’s a sure bet the line will be a success. H&M must be kicking themselves for not backing Kate during her cocaine shame, otherwise who knows, it could have been them. [Mirror.co.uk]

Every company around is searching for a way to incorporate mobile phones into their business and Topshop is no exception. The store has managed to find a way to further their influence in the youth market by launching a mobile phone style advice service. In conjunction with Skywire, the service will be an extension of their in-store style advice service and will allow customers to use their mobile phones to interact with Topshop’s style advisors. Shoppers will be able to book appointments, receive advice, receive picture messages of recommended clothing and reserve items. Managing director of Skywire, Alex Judd, Skywire said of the venture, “This is a fantastic use of mobile to enhance the unique service that Topshop offers. With the ability to actually see the clothes that the style advisers are recommending while out of the store, it is a great use of technology.” [Brand Republic]

Topshop adored by many, will be on the catwalk at London Fashion week this September. The high street store will be showing its top of the range line “Unique”. According to it’s Brand director Jane Shepherdson, this move was made in order to silence their critics who claim Topshop is only good for ripping of the catwalks quickly. Unique will also be stocked in New York boutique Opening Ceremony who have dedicated a complete floor to the label. The boutique celebrated the arrival of Unique in style with a shopping soiree attended by Editors of Teen Vogue and W magazine and various other fashionistas. Topshop has come a long way and its path has been a successful one. Recognising “new talent” as the best method of turning the brand around, they have managed to help emerging designers as well as redefine Topshop. “Topshop is becoming a bigger and bigger name internationally. Americans in the fashion world and beyond tell me that when someone travels to London, they are always asked, ‘Can you bring something back from Topshop?’ The thing about Topshop is that it is very spontaneous. They see something happening, they respond to it. The fashion system has changed dramatically in the past five years and Topshop has been at the forefront of that. Nobody can pretend, and nobody even aspires to dress entirely in designer clothes any more. The way people shop is to mix and match all kinds of prices and styles, and that is very much prevalent in London.” – Sarah Mower, contributing editor, American Vogue and style.com [Independent : Fashion-Era]
Read MoreTop 50 Fashion Designers In The World
Ever wondered who the top 50 fashion designers in the world are? Well, wonder no more. We’ve put together a list most famous fashion designers from around the globe. From past icons to current trailblazers who are setting the trends right now, here’s a comprehensive deep dive into the best fashion designers without whom the fashion industry just wouldn’t be the same. 1. Coco Chanel If there’s one iconic fashion designer who’s influenced the industry more than any other, it’s definitely Coco Chanel. She brought something new to the table, freeing women from the restrictions of frills and corsets, instead offering up simple, comfortable styles. And today, more than 50 years after her passing, her influence is still felt. Coco Chanel’s early life wasn’t an easy one, marked by tragedy and hardship. Her mother passed away when she was young, and she and her siblings had to be raised at an orphanage. Despite everything, Chanel was determined to make a name for herself in the world. Her designs stood out from the crowd, effortless and refined. She transformed fabrics that were traditionally associated with men’s clothing, like tweed and jersey, into chic, comfy pieces for women. The late designer will always be remembered for her creation of the little black dress, which is still a wardrobe staple for many. Chanel also branched out into the fragrance industry, launching her famous Chanel No. 5 perfume in 1921. She was a trendsetter in more ways than one, using groundbreaking marketing techniques to promote her work. And even now, you can spot her signature CC logo anywhere and to this day Chanel is one of the top French fashion brands in the world. 2. Giorgio Armani Giorgio Armani is a name that screams luxury and style, and this Italian designer has been a […]
Read More12 Brands That Offer Clothes for Women Who Are Above 5’9” – Heightism: It’s a Thing
As a tall woman, you know what it’s like to shop for regular clothes and have them look too short on you, or to look around the department store and see everyone else with tons of options while you can’t find a thing that fits. It’s just like having big feet and never being able to find a decent pair of shoes. It sucks…. They say that “if you look good, you feel good”. And for us tall women, this rings especially true when shopping for clothes. However, sometimes when shopping for clothes many tall women are forced to settle for styles that aren’t the absolute best-looking choices available when compared to their petite counterparts. For instance, if you shop in stores like H&M or Whistles it is much more likely that the store carries a wider range of shorter sizes than they do longer ones. If you’re taller than 5’9″, then you know what we’re talking about. Many times in these types of stores your biggest size would be a medium/large – which could be too small in the shoulders and arms, but too big around the waist and hips. This is why many stores are now carrying tall sections for women who wear sizes 14-24. This sounds great, but there are still some significant issues with what they offer you in the way of clothing – the fit just isn’t as good as it could be, and more often than not, the styles are dated. So we’ve compiled a list of the best tall women’s clothing brands that offer stylish, well-fitting clothes for tall women everywhere. Where to buy clothes for tall women? Boden Boden doesn’t have a dedicated ‘tall section’ but the majority of their women’s clothes are offered in a long fit, which is fantastic because […]

To think that in just less than 2 weeks we’ll be in March, is just mind-boggling. It literally feels as if it was Jan 1st just yesterday. Between the drama of Brexit and the overall chaos in British politics in general, there’s just been way too much going on to even consider the rate at which time is flying by. It’s safe to say, before we know it, we’ll be knee-deep in summer, parading around in t-shirts and shorts preferably on the beach, and ideally with a Brexit deal in place. Read MoreStay On Trend This Winter With Our Top Tips
As much as we’d like to deny it, summer has left abruptly and it seems as though it’s taken autumn along with it. What we’re left with are short days, long nights and some very icy temperatures. And while it might pain you to pack away those shorts and T-shirts until next year, there are many clothing items you can look forward to breaking out before the snow starts to fall. Below, we’ll look at the latest trends as well as must-have pieces for the 2016 winter season. Puffer Jackets Undoubtedly one of the warmest pieces of outerwear available, puffer jackets have seen a resurgence in recent years. Not only that, but they’ve been dubbed one of seven statement pieces to have this winter and have been seen all over the AW16 catwalks. And while oversized puffer jackets might have been all the rage on the runways, you can find slightly more sensible and haute-couture versions at Uniqlo or Topshop. Invest in Basics Always understated but overwhelmingly necessary, basics such as blouses, stockings and cardigans are pieces which always seem to slip by unnoticed until you realize you need a surplus of all of them! They may be ubiquitous, but that’s not to say that these pieces need to be boring. You can pick up some simple, tasteful, and stylish pieces from places like Peter Hahn that will help augment statement items and complete a look. A Sharp-Shouldered Blazer 2016 is the year that the 80s has made a comeback. We’ve seen it not only in fashion, but generally throughout popular culture. So if you’re keen to take a cue from that trend, invest in a sharp-shouldered blazer that will go amazingly with a crop top and a pair of flat ankle boots. If you’re willing to go full 80s, […]

We’re not quite sure when it happened, but at some point the weather went from zero to hundred real quick. We’ll give it to summer, it hung on for dear life, for as long as it could. And then all of a sudden the temperature dropped and we’re now left wondering, where autumn went to? Rather than enjoying cool autumnal breezes, it feels like we’re in the early stages of winter. And whereas usually when we’d use this time of year to show off our transitional outerwear, e.g blazers and oversized cardis, we’re now seriously considering busting out the heavy duty puffer jacket. Not that we’re complaining too much – being one of this season’s major staples, the puffer jacket has had a lovely makeover and it’s bigger and better than ever. As seen on the AW16 catwalks oversized puffer jackets were the norm…and there’s only one way to wear it – slightly off the shoulder as seen at Balenciaga and more recently on RiRi during Paris Fashion Week. Impractical? Yes. Sexy? Hell yes! Uh-oh, did we speak too soon? If physical sales are anything to go by, it appears the Kate Moss x Equipment collaboration isn’t doing as well as originally thought. Apparently only 30 shoppers visited the pop-up store in Blandford Street, Marylebone during the the 8 hour period in which it was open and just three left with pieces from the collection which consists of 25 items. It’s possible fans could be put off by the price point of the clothing line? Or perhaps Kate just doesn’t have the same pulling power she once had (remember the manic rush for her collaboration with Topshop). Or with the collection available at both Net-a-Porter & Equipment there is the other possibility that pieces are being snapped up online? Only time will tell…

Oh the joy of Mondays! While many dread Mondays, I truthfully don’t mind them so much. Of course, I love Fridays the most (who doesn’t?) but Monday’s present a fresh new start to go harder and be better. Best of all, I reserve Monday’s to scour through my fave online stores for the hottest products to feature in upcoming posts. Possibly the best part of my job…I enjoy nothing more than sitting with a hot cup of coffee and lusting over must-haves. *sigh*. There are way too many amazing products out there and not enough features so I’ve compiled a few of my favourites for this week’s top buys. Enjoy! While it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Kanye’s clothing. The same doesn’t go for his shoes. Yes, he makes the odd error here and there, but on the whole, he’s got a gift when it comes to footwear. These pre-fall knitted over the knee peep toes are a great investment for the season ahead. You can never be over or under dressed in a great maxi dress. They’re a lifesaver when it comes to that nerve racking hunt of finding what to wear to any upcoming event, whether it’s a wedding or a BBQ and you can’t go wrong adding this romantic Topshop floral maxi dress to your wardrobe. With the sun set to make a permanent appearance (yay!), it’s absolutely essentials to have an arsenal of stylish sandals and there are tons of really great options out there. I love this classic ankle strapped style from Pikolinos who have a great selection of women’s sandals this season. Not only are they comfy and perfect for the summer season but if you’ve got any holidays planned, it’ll make the ideal travel companion too. These days nearly every celeb […]

Athleisure – the art of wearing fitness gear as part of your day to day wardrobe – is here to stay for the foreseeable future. It’s a fact that was recently cemented when model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stepped out in Chloé tracksuit bottoms paired with heeled sandals. And we’re not complaining at all. Any trend that gives us permission to ditch our stilettos for a pair of comfy white trainers worn to the office is just fine by us. With tons of activewear brands coming into existence, clothing that we’d otherwise have worn solely for a workout are becoming more and more affordable. So with this in mind, we feel the time has come to curate an “athleisure” capsule wardrobe filled with the essentials that’ll transition effortlessly from the gym to off-duty. 1. Yoga pants – Kanye recently declared, “I like t-shirts and women in Yoga Pants……I live in L.A that’s what people wear.” No doubt it’s a trend that’s bound to get bigger on this side of the pond especially as they’re so unbelievably comfortable. 2. Hoodie – When it’s too chilly for just a t-shirt, but not cold enough to throw on a biker jacket, layer up with a hoodie. We’re seriously crushing on this oversized hoodie from none other than Beyonce’s new line Ivy Park. 3. Trainers – Functional yet stylish is the name of the game when buying a pair of trainers, not only do they need to go the distance when pounding the treadmill but making a statement with a pair of jeans is a must. With all black trainers set to rival their white counterparts, Mastershoe have a fab pair of bang on trend Skechers. 4. Tracksuit bottoms – Set to be a wardrobe staple, there’s no need to pull a “Rosie Huntington-Whiteley” and splurge over £700 on a cute pair of Chloé tracksuit bottoms. Adidas have great […]

Ladies get in formation. Beyoncé’s activewear brand Ivy Park is set for release on April 14th! Developed in partnership with Sir Philip Green the Spring/Summer 2016 collection which consists of fitness clothing, footwear and accessories will be available globally both online and instore at Topshop, Nordstrom, Zalando, Net-a-Porter, Selfridges, JD Sports, Namshi, Zalora, The Iconic, Glue Store, Myer and Hudson’s Bay. Of the collaboration Beyoncé said, “Sir Philip has created some amazing collaborations but I wanted a partnership and stand-alone brand. When I’m working and rehearsing I live in my work out clothes but I didn’t feel there was an athletic brand that spoke to me. My goal with Ivy Park is to push the boundaries of athletic wear and to support and inspire women who understand that beauty is more than your physical appearance. True beauty is in the health of our minds, hearts, and bodies. I know that when I feel physically strong, I am mentally strong and I wanted to create a brand that made other women feel the same way.” The standalone brand has been in the works for the past 18 months and we can’t wait to see what the two heavyweights have in store for us.
