How To Style A Sequin Dress Effortlessly!

There’s no better time to embrace the dazzling allure of a sequin dress! Whether you’re attending a glamorous New Year’s Eve party or a festive work event, mastering the art of styling these sparkly showstoppers can transform you into the belle of any ball. The key to pulling off sequins is understanding that they’re not just for special occasions anymore – with the right styling, you can make sequins work for various events and even some casual settings. How to style a sequin dress 1. Choose the Right Silhouette for Your Style When buying a sequin dress, think about your comfort level and personal style first. The beauty of sequin dresses lies in their versatility – from body-hugging mermaid styles to relaxed shift dresses. For a more conservative approach, try a long-sleeved mini dress that balances coverage with sparkle. If you’re feeling bold, a plunging neckline or backless design can create show-stopping drama. Consider your body type too. A-line sequin dresses flatter most figures, while column dresses work beautifully for taller frames. Empire waists can create lovely proportion for shorter torsos, and wrap styles in sequins can define your waist beautifully. 2. Keep accessories subtle, not overpowering Your dress is already making a statement, so keep your accessories minimal and sophisticated. A pair of classic stilettos in metallic or black can elongate your legs while complementing the sparkle. For jewelry, opt for delicate pieces that won’t compete with your dress – perhaps a pair of simple diamond studs or a thin bracelet. When it comes to bags, size matters – a small clutch in a solid color provides the perfect finishing touch without overwhelming your look. If you’re wearing a long sequin gown, a sleek envelope clutch that won’t interfere with the dress’s line is ideal. For shorter styles, you […]

How To Incorporate Gemstones In Your Everyday Fashion

Gemstones completely change the game when it comes to fashion trends. Statement jewellery One of the best ways to incorporate gemstones, no matter natural or lab-grown into your everyday fashion is by using statement jewellery. There are several options you can pick from, so you can find that piece that goes perfectly with your outfit. If you are interested in being more subtle, you can go for jewellery accentuated with gemstones. This type of jewellery usually comes with smaller gemstones mixed with other materials like gold or silver, using stone setting techniques like prong, bezel, or pave settings. Bags and backpacks are used on different occasions, so it’s best to have multiple options for both. And why not showcase your personality through these accessories? After all, this is what fashion is all about. For instance, you can choose among these Loungefly bags and […]

No matter how amazing your outfit is, you can almost always make it more interesting, and you can do so in an instant if you know some of the tricks that fashionistas everywhere use to elevate their style every day. So read on for some top tips you cannot afford to miss… Wrap yourself in a blanket scarf You know that easy outfit? The jeans and shirt combo that makes you look put together with minimal effort, but which can be a bit boring? I have a secret that will help you to make it interesting with a little more effort than you’re already putting in: a blanket scarf. Once you have wrapped yourself in a cosy blanket scarf, you will look a million dollars. It will add another layer of interest to the eye while keeping you warm and making your outfit more exciting and pretty much anyone can wear one well. Carry a quirky bag Even your most mundane jeans and t-shirt outfit can be made into something much more exciting by simply carrying a quirky bag. Whether you opt for a leopard print clutch, a teddy bear backpack or a furry pink satchel, using your bag to bring an extra layer of interest to your outfit is about as simple as it gets, but it is also a very effective fashion move. A statement blazer The blazer is a staple of every lady’s wardrobe along with little black dresses and comfy tights, but it can be a bit boring. An easy way to make it more interesting, and to use your blazer to make other outfits more interesting, is to choose a statement blazer instead. How to Make Spring Trends Work For You

Spring is here and it’s the time of year when flowers are in bloom, the sun rises earlier, and you open your wardrobe and think to yourself “great, what am I going to wear?”, despite the numerous cute outfits hanging there. But, don’t let the fallacy of a “full wardrobe” fool you, most women who suffer from this condition tend to only wear about 20% of the clothes they own. That means 80% of your wardrobe is sitting there collecting dust and wondering whether it will ever see the light of day again. How tragic. Clothes are safest in a wardrobe but that’s not why clothes are made… It’s not just the excess of choice that can leave you in a spin, we now need to wrestle with the latest fashion trends coming out of Milan, New York and the 90s? Yes, it appears that all the crazy fashionistas in Shoreditch and Soho are looking back to the 90s for the latest trends and design inspirations – see the classic bum bags, the technologically out of date Walkman, and of course the stylings of 90s fashion icon, Cher Horowitz… they are all back this year – whatever is a woman to do?  You’re in luck because we have a couple little ideas that you might want to use this year. Add some colour A fashion trend to keep an eye on this Spring is bright colours. Prepare to see plenty of bright, block colours on the streets this year. But it’s not just bright colours that make for a trendy outfit, you should also look to pair bright colours with a bold print – perhaps something floral to match the season. According to scientists, brighter clothes make you happier, who knew? See the flowers bloom Speaking of floral, one timeless […]

Meet Milyae Park – CEO and Creative Director of Luxury Label Tricouni

Our introduction to luxury label Tricouni began earlier this year, during London Fashion Week, and it’s been an unbreakable love affair ever since. We caught up with the driving force behind the brand – CEO and Creative Director Milyae Park, who is not only absolutely lovely, but incredibly inspirational too. Prior to joining Tricouni, Milyae was CEO of L’Wren Scott, Director at F&F and ran M&S Europe. Despite a very busy schedule, Milyae took some time out to answer a few of our questions…. What’s a typical working day like for you?  Since working at a start-up inherently means unpredictability, I don’t tend to have a typical day.  However, in the course of any given day, I’m often awake by 6am (later in the winter).  By 8.30am, I will have consumed several cups of green tea and a hearty breakfast (always), gone for a run (sometimes), responded to my first tranche of emails, and plotted out my day, as I arrive in the office.  I tend to be more analytical in the mornings, so I reserve that time for reviewing the team’s work and holding meetings.  Our office is open plan, so when I need to focus, I’m often found with headphones on, playing classical music if I have my Creative Director hat on, and jazz or popular music if I have my CEO hat on (I’ve always had a habit of playing different music to engage different parts of my brain). By early afternoon, I am in the studio reviewing sketches, fabrics and trims and doing fittings with the design team, discussing social media, ecommerce strategy and sales with the marketing team, working on photoshoots, auditioning models, writing and approving creative copy, and meeting with editors, retailers and investors.  Somehow in between, I also browse London fashion and retail stores for research; as a […]

Forget the LBD. Celebs are embracing the WTS (White Trouser Suit)

At a loss for what to wear on New Years Eve? Look no further than the white trouser suit. A wardrobe staple, the white trouser suit is having somewhat of a fashion moment of late with celebrity starlets favouring a more masculine approach to occasion dressing. Recently, Jessica Chastain stunned in a chic Giorgio Armani suit at a luncheon in honor of her latest movie and let’s not forget how amazing Ashley Madekwe looked at the 2014 British Fashion Awards in Banana Republic’s three-piece ivory suit. Sleek. Sophisticated. Classic. The white trouser suit is all that and more, however it can be VERY tricky to pull off. How not to wear? Very rarely and we repeat “very rarely” is Jennifer Lawrence guilty of a fashion crime but it saddens us to say, the actress committed a major offence with this ill-fitting suit at the photocall for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. To avoid making a similar error, always opt for fitted rather than wide-legged trousers. However, don’t do a Rita Ora and venture to the opposite side of the spectrum with skin-tight trousers and even worse accessory overload. Instead, look to Jessica Chastain and Ashley Madekwe for how to pull off the white trouser suit. Keeping accessories to a minimum, both beauties hit all the right style notes with their outfits. Get the look: We’ve had our eye on this cream wool trouser suit from Reiss and now it’s on sale there’s no holding us back! We know, it’s not white…but it’s close enough. Complete your look with a white cami, these satin t-bar court shoes and this opulent nude box clutch.       (Slim-fit Wool Cream Blazer, £265 £185 available at Reiss, High-Waisted Cream Trousers, £130 £95 available at Reiss, Camellia Ecru Jersey Cami, £18 available at Reiss, Satin T-bar Court Shoes, £130 £95 available […]

Style Jury: Rihanna vs. Beyonce

Both R&B Queens, huge fashion icons, and most importantly both fabulous; this one is a toughie. We don’t know about you but we’re not a massive fan of the Denim trend, let alone full denim, yet of course, both RiRi and Beyonce show it’s possible for them to wear any trend and nail it. Let’s start with RiRi; the singer was spotted in Beverly Hills with her mother on a shopping spree. Not only is her outfit cool but casual, her hair even while tied up and practical oozes laid back beach glamour. On the other side is Beyonce, one half of music’s biggest ever power couple (sorry Britney and JT that double denim catwalk combo was just catastrophic) not only is she a music Queen (amongst other things) but she also helps rule the fashion world, and she is killing it in double denim. Although she and partner Jay Z have been battling rumours of marriage problems, she shows the world that nothing will stop her from dominating the style world along with RiRi which is what makes this ‘who wore it better’ edition a hard one to decide. Unlike Rihanna however, Beyonce wasn’t being snapped out and about. This picture was posted on her Instagram and official website accompanied with the hashtag ‘#mylife’ – a devotion to Blue Ivy maybe? One thing they both did which distinguished them both from the crowd was accessorize. Rihanna chose a leather cap to add a bit of her signature bad girl edge to the ensemble, along with a denim Juliette Jake Wraparound Clutch which complimented the outfit perfectly, and then finished off the outfit with some sleek nude heels. Beyonce on the other hand opted for a pair of bang on trend Cazal round framed black tinted sunglasses, Christian Louboutin Foillies […]

Resell Your Threads for A Lot More Than You Thought: Online Uprising Avoids Consignment

When it comes to what you wear, you may want to start thinking about buying designer brands after all. If you’re a Target shopper when it comes to picking up your casuals, jeans, or clothes for work, it’s time to switch your game up, and here’s why: clothes have resale value—a lot of it. We’ve always known that high end brands fetch more when we opt to resell them, but the fact of the matter is that when we gain weight, lose weight, or simply stop wearing specific items, they wind up in the back of the closet, being given away to friends and relatives, or donated to thrift shops like Goodwill, the Salvation Army, and Savers. Even for those of us savvy enough to make the effort to make some money back on our threads end up in consignment shops—and with the percentages back they offer those whose clothes they sell, the return is usually about 50 percent of the resale value. Even with clothes that probably shouldn’t be sold to consignment stores, it’s a practical investment to look for brands that will stand the test of time as opposed to a lower quality item, saving you money in the long run. Now there’s a new and better way for online clothes sellers, buyers, and even the online ecommerce sites engaging in selling clothes for those of us spring cleaning our wardrobes, whether we’re unleashing designer brand jeans, work casuals, or designer bags and gently used shoes and accessories. Those of us unloading our closets stand to make a lot more—usually around 30 percent more than the old-fashioned brick and mortar consignment store method. What’s more, retailers and online resellers are wisely creating what will likely be long term partnerships based on the knowledge that the average American enjoys […]

How is Anya Hindmarch cashing in on that Solange Knowles elevator fight?

Solange Knowles, Beyonce, and Jay Z might all want to forget the infamous elevator fight that happened at this year’s Met Gala, but not everyone feels the same way. Anya Hindmarch has decided to take a glass half full approach to the incident and cash in on the fight by letting everyone know that Beyonce’s little sis was in fact carrying an Anya Hindmarch clutch to the Met Gala. The popular crisp packet clutch to be more precise And how has it alerted us, you ask? By (probably) having a super-fast brainstorm marketing meeting and quickly releasing an ad for the clutch with the phrase “a clutch worth fighting for” accompanying it. This probably wouldn’t have been acceptable had the fight been more serious and someone had actually got hurt, but as the three involved seem to have patched things up now, we don’t think it’s too distasteful. We reckon it’s quite clever if we’re being honest… What do you guys think? Insensitive or genius? We’ll let you decide! [Daily Mail]

Emma Roberts vs. Kate Upton…Who wore Fendi better?

Vying for our attention this week, in two red-hot (literally) looks, are Emma Roberts and Kate Upton, who both sported a striking red mini dress from the Fendi spring 2014 collection. The gorgeous dress features a motif-style print, with a fitted waist and subtle statement shoulder; marking it as the perfect LRD (Little Red Dress) in our books. And getting first dibs on this pretty number was Emma Roberts, who opted for said dress at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar party. Going all matchy-matchy on us, Emma paired the dress with red Brian Atwood pumps, a crimson red lip and a perfectly textured, sharply side-parted bob. A silver mini box clutch and delicate-looking cocktail jewellery completed the look. But catching up with Julia Roberts’ niece in the style stakes was Kate Upton, who took to the red carpet for the German premiere of her latest movie, The Other Woman, at Mathaeser Filmpalast in Munich, last week. Fifties-inspired pin-up rolls, red lips and strong eyes perfectly rounded off Kate’s look, while she opted for nude pumps and went bag-free. So, whose look wins for you? Both ladies clearly brought their A-game, but we’re going with Emma on this one! Instead of being too much, her all-red approach is actually a winning combination. After all, given her Hollywood credentials, we wouldn’t expect anything less! [Images: Emma; Kate]

Steep vs. Cheap: The ultimate work dress

There’s nothing more mundane than boring office wear. Agreed? But thanks to certain designers taking it upon themselves to make our work wardrobes a more stylish affair, the days of formal greys and boring cuts are fading fast. This week’s steep vs. cheap option is a winner, even if we do say so ourselves! Not much beats the promotion-bagging qualities of a form-fitting, brightly hued dress; and when it also fits in day-to-night appeal, resistance (to purchase) is futile. First in at the steep end this week is the mesh-trimmed silk and wool-blend dress from the very woman who balances style with a fiercely entrepreneurial spirit to perfection: Victoria Beckham. Spliced with sheer mesh, the kingfisher blue, silhouette-skimming dress plays into the sports luxe trend with ease, yet still boasts slick boardroom appeal. Looking to splash out? Shop the steep option right here: Victoria Beckham mesh-trimmed silk and wool-blend dress, £1,550, available at Net-a-Porter. However, if your bank balance refuses to stretch to VB’s price tag, fear not! Allowing you to step into work in style is the equally flattering, contrast panel bodycon dress. Nipped at the waist for a cinched effect, the contrast panels and back-zip detail give it high end allure with a very satisfying price tag. Want to go from work to sipping waboritas in less than 30 seconds flat? Just add a simple clutch, and you’re good to go. Feeling the pinch, and want to curb the spending? Thrifty option this way:  Contrast panel bodycon dress, £45, available at Closet.

WATCH: We help Marks & Spencer style 4 key looks from their SS14 collection. We love them all especially #3!

A DAY OF PURE FASHION FUN Getting the chance to dabble with new season collections is a favourite hobby of Team MFL, and when the lovely team at Marks & Spencer invited us to assist in styling their spring/summer 2014 collection, we were at the airy Sunbeam Studios in London as fast as our heels could transport us. THE STYLE BRIEF Working alongside three other leading ladies in the fashion industry (Laura Tan, Metro; Emily Johnston, Fashion Foie Gras; Laetitia Wajnapel, Mademoiselle Robot), we spent the day with a room full of Marks & Spencer’s latest drop of on-trend pieces, an entertaining camera crew and an endless supply of delicious goodies to fuel stylish thoughts! Tasked with creating four spring-appropriate looks using key pieces from the collection, we worked our way though rails of clothes and accessories, cherry picking our favourite pieces (it was tough – pretty much everything made it onto our mental wish list) to dress the lovely models. THE LOOKS Putting four headstrong fashion women together in one room, with a brief to let our styling creativity run riot is no mean feat. With different trend preferences and opinions whizzing around in full force, the experience was still a highly enjoyable one, and our differing choices easily melded into four very wearable looks. Result! Channelling a prim-but-preppy look, we put together a cotton shirt with a jacquard mini skirt and a knitted tunic worn as a jumper. Perfect for work or play. First look at Jennifer Lawrence’s third Miss Dior ad campaign

Jennifer Lawrence is back for Miss Dior ad campaign, and if it’s possible, she might be even more gorgeous than ever! Jen was shot by Patrick Demarchelier for her third batch of Dior ads, and can be seen clutching a printed chain-handled Miss Dior bag in one pic, and a softer hued bag in another. Well, we would be gripping them pretty tight too if we ever got our hands on the new collection! The Oscar-winning actress is rocking some serious wind-swept locks in her photoshoot, which are perfect for showcasing her beautiful face and her flawless au naturale make-up. The third set of ad campaign images are slated to break on dior.com on Wednesday (make sure you head to the website as Dior will also be treating us to a video of Jennifer talking about choosing a dress for the Oscars red carpet – not to be missed!) and will also feature in Marie Claire’s latest issue out on Thursday. Do you love Jen’s new ads as much as we do? Or do you prefer the autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign?  [WWD]

Poppy Delevingne is Worst Dressed of the Week in Louis Vuitton

With red carpet style getting ever more sophisticated – and not in a boring way – its becoming tougher to track down a look that makes us say “meh.” However, one particular look always slips the oh-so-pretty net, landing straight in our Worst Dressed pile. And, this week it seems one of the Delevingne sisters may have momentarily downgraded their style-setter status, with a rather odd gown. Poppy Delevingne took to the black red carpet at the 2014 amFAR Gala earlier this week, and we’re not sure we’re with her on this sartorial slip-up. Sporting a rather bewitching black gown from the Louis Vuitton spring 2014 collection, Poppy ensured all eyes were on her. Featuring a sheer body with intricate bead embellishment, Poppy completed the look with a super-high ponytail and an aptly dark lip. A rather bulky bucket bag finished her evening effort. There’s just something about this outfit that’s a little mismatched; it’s one of those looks that works better on the runway, complete with Marc Jacobs-esque grandeur. The hair harks back to the 90s, while the bag is too large for a formal evening affair. A more sophisticated hairdo and a tiny box clutch could salvage this look, but as it stands, it’s a let down from the Delevingne camp. Agree with our style verdict? What do you think of Poppy’s look?
