Katy Perry looks demure in Moschino

Katy being, um, Katy, we’re used to seeing her in all manner of outlandish garbs. Sparkly smurf dresses, fairground carousel creations and sequin gowns depicting President Obama’s face are all fair game. That’s why we were particularly surprised to see Ms Perry in this relatively toned down number whilst promoting her second fragrance, Meow, in Los Angeles last week. Her super girly Moschino dress was made from baby pink satin and featured a giant black bow around the neckline and band around the waist. She paired it with a pair of black Valentino heels and a new blond bob which, for the record, we love! Add to this simple jewellery and minimal makeup and you’ve got a look we haven’t seen from the 27-year-old singer for a long time (if ever). We’re loving this demure look Katy but we do kind of miss her crazy-lady garb. Where are the attachable sequin dice, UV lights and Copacabana-style fruit appliqués? [poll id=”258″]

New E! modelling show Scouted rips off Anja Rubik’s Elie Saab advert

The claws are well and truly out on Twitter today, courtesy of top model Anja Rubik. She took to the social networking site to express her feelings towards the Scouted advert, as she believed it was a direct, and in her words, “shameless” copy of her highly successful and uber-glam advert for Elie Saab’s fragrance “Le Parfum” which debuted in May earlier this year. The advert featured her posing on a busy street in a billowing Elie Saab gown, which the Scouted advert has very accurately replicated.

From failed singer to stylish soon-to-be mum: what’s Jessica Simpson’s fashion secret?

Actress, singer and all-American sweetheart Jessica Simpson last week announced she was pregnant with her first child. We’re super excited for the 31-year-old and, while we can’t proclaim to be die-hard fans of her acting or singing abilities, we give respect where it’s due to her talents as a fashion designer. Honestly, this woman generates some serious dosh. As the first celebrity whose clothing line has topped $1 billion in sales, it’s no wonder New York Magazine featured her on their cover with the tagline ‘Jessica Simpson, Fashion Mogul’. Her empire includes clothing, accessories, shoes and fragrances and, more recently, she launched a ready-to-wear line which has brought in huge profit. While she might have been ridiculed as an airhead in her reality TV show years ago, it seems Jessica is a very savvy business woman indeed. Famous for her ‘girl next door’ qualities, she’s channelled that sweet quality into a line that America’s gone absolutely mad for. Her clothing is girly, feminine and wholesome – she makes the kind of dresses teenagers would dream of wearing to the prom and, at around the £100 mark, many of them do. While her label isn’t available in the UK (yet), for our fashionable friends over the pond it’s readily available. Take this classic LBD, for example, which, with its A-line cut is both classic and ultra-flattering: Bubble Hem Dress, $148.00.   Or how about the the nipped-in waist and old school glamour of this coat:  Faux Fur Collar Coat, $228.00 $169.99.   And then there’s the wedges with bags of attitude: Esteen Wedge Boots, $139.00. Surprisingly stylish, we think you’ll agree. So we’re going to say this: watch out for Ms. Simpson, she’s quietly taking over a well-subscribed section of fashion with unrivalled success.

We found Valentia, have you? (This exclusive vid of Freja Beha might help!)

“Valentina! Valentina!,” they cry. Only Valentina isn’t there. She’s gone exploring the city, the little rascal – and she smells ruddy nice, too. Not got a clue what we’re on about? Valentina, the new scent from Valentino, has just launched, but with Freja Beha Erichsen as its face, this fragrance has an overriding naughtiness that you’ll find hard to resist. In her first acting role – and fragrance ad, FYI – Freja plays the part of Valentina, a modern heiress who’s unphased by the fuss surrounding her and would frankly rather go in search of an adventure. And escape she does, during her birthday party in the grandest Italian casa, as it happens (awkward timing, Freja!) to explore the neglected nocturnal streets of Rome and smooch up to a hot guy in his car. If only that happened every time we wanted out. We were whisked away to Rome last weekend to find Valentina, and after copius glasses of fizz and exquisite food on sun-drenched terraces overlooking the seductive Italian city, we tracked her down (though, if we’re playing fair, that might have had something to do with having the Valentino team for tour guides). So, how does Valentina (the girl) translate to Valentina (the fragrance)? So sweetly, since you ask. The scent – an “irreverant Italian floral oriental” – opens with notes of bergamot and white Alba truffles, both typical of Italy, for a zesty freshness with a bold edge. In their trail, jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose create a crisp beauty, while wild strawberries recreate Freja’s irresistible rebellion. To finish, cedarwood and amber add a seductive sensuality that, when cased inside a gorgeous glass bottle boasting three signature Valentino nude flowers and a strikingly sophisticated black topper, couldn’t come closer to the fashion label’s essence. Classic yet modern, […]

Where we went at FNO: the high end

This is a guest post by Daisy Jeffery, one of our (frankly brilliant) competition winners who had the chance to hit London’s streets last night and discover the designer parties taking place in the capital’s West End. Here, Daisy shares her experiences from her very first Fashion’s Night Out… From the fashion to the fashionable, the makeovers to the manicures, the champagne to the cocktails (and, of course, the goodie bags!) – the long awaited Fashion’s Night Out hit London last night with more fun and famous faces than you could shake a stick at. The city became a Mecca for decadence and glamour, and from the well-heeled lovelies on New Bond Street to the retro glamazon creatures of Bruton Street, London came alive for the third year running to celebrate what could only be described as an upmarket fashion-frenzied carnival for the weird and wonderful. Kicking off the evening in true British fashion at Burberry, walking down the white carpet and through the velour ropes shoppers were immediately greeted with champagne and rose gold ribbons bearing the scent of the label’s latest ‘Body’ fragrance. Whether you chose to parade the store admiring the trench coats, marvel at the latest collections or kick up your heels to the beat of the live Wolf Gang performance, Christopher Bailey certainly knows how to get the party started in style. Next, I hit Louis Vuitton‘s Maison for a paparazzi-inspired event, where the store hosted a bunch of photo booths to capture the moment while Vogue photographers mingled with the crowd. Six foot beauties in their highest of heels sipped on Mojitos while marvelling at the world-famous bags, as the Armani-clad males sporting Robert Pattinson-esque ‘dos checked out the artwork on display at the back of the store. It was Mulberry, however, who flew […]

Who wore it best? Kim vs Khloe Kardashian in Myne

Celebrities often have the misfortune of someone with more star power wearing exactly the same dress. It’s a fierce competition to look good in Hollywood, and dressing to impress is of utmost importance. So imagine how it feels when your own sister is spotted in exactly the same dress! The copy-cat fiasco happened to none other than the super-competitive Kardashians! They both wore the same maxi Myne silk dress – thankfully on different occasions. Of course, the ever stylish and fashion forward Kim managed to out manoeuvre her sister by wearing the dress first. Kim chose the silk dress for her new fragrance campaign, wearing it to a photo shoot session. Kim’s choice of colour was nude to complement her olive skintone, acessorised with gladiator style sandals, gold cuffs, a statement gold necklace and her trademark tumbling curled tresses. Khloe Kardashian, on the other hand, opted for a more bold shade choice with the luminous magenta pink version. She wore the maxi Myne to a dress fitting at Vera Wang, and paired it with heeled brown sandals, minimal accessories, a basic black handbag and the same relaxed hairstyle as Kim. But the real question here is, which Kardashian wore it best? Kim’s nude gladiator style, or Khloe’s bright and beautiful colour popping pink style?
