Galliano Menswear

Whether he’s wearing it or sending it down the catwalk, John Galliano‘s got a signature style that’s as far fetched as fashion gets. Now, the Dior creative director is turning his design marvel to menswear for a second time. As more designers brainstorm pieces for the boys , most recently Victoria Beckham and Matthew Williamson , King of Couture John Galliano has announced a new, lower-priced diffusion line for men which will sit alongside his current menswear and womenswear offerings. His inspiration? Himself. “I was inspired by memories of my twenty-year old self,” Galliano told Vogue UK of the collection, called ‘Galliano’. “I was fashion-obsessed yet starved of choice in clothes. We used to take our vintage market finds and pull them apart and recombine them to create our own mixed-up signature looks.” Aimed at men who want to express their own ideas and identity through their style, Galliano’s contemporary offering attempts to capture the attitude of the London rock scene. “It’s not just the girls who want to party and be able to pepper their wardrobe with urban essentials, the boys want this option too – and to have those pieces in denim, leather and something that has that quirky signature Galliano identity. They want high fashion but not the high fashion prices, so I wanted to create a collection that could inspire as much as bridge that gap.” The new collection will launch at Milan Menswear Fashion Week on January 18.

Emporio Armani’s Foxxy frock

Ooh, Emporio Armani has designed a new dress inspired by the strapless fuchsia Giorgio Armani Prive number Megan Fox wore to the Moscow premiere of Transformers 2. The new design comes after blockbuster beauty Megan Fox was named as the next face of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans over a month ago, taking over from Victoria Beckham. The dress, which, judging from Armani’s sketch is the spitting image of the Giorgio Armani Prive dress that Megan Fox wore on the red carpet, has just landed in Emporio Armani stores nationwide (in time for the festive season), and is set to sell at $980 (around £600). This is the latest in a string of events that link the actress du jour and Armani together; she was front row at his Prive show, he snapped her up to front Emporio Armani next season, she wore a Prive dress to her movie’s premiere, and now he’s designed a dress based on that one she wore. BFFs, perhaps? Meanwhile, shooting has already taken place with Fox for her SS10 campaigns where the actress will appear across billboards and ads clad in Emporio Armani Underwear , something tells us those images will be sizzling.

London Fashion Week SS10: Maria Grachvogel

Think elegance, think sophistication, think class. They were the overruling themes at Maria Grachvogel’s Spring/Summer presentation. Grachvogel took us back to uptown 1964 with this wonderfully demure collection inspired by Hitchcock’s beautiful women who were seen as powerful and racy yet glamourous and serene.

Elizabeth Taylor’s hat order

The Hollywood legend recently placed the order with royal milliner Philip Treacy, after she was impressed with his quick response to her fashion query. Treacy revealed: ‘Her assistant called me up asking for hair pin and I sent her a message back asking if she wanted a hat to go with it. It turns out that she did – she wanted lots of them!’ Taylor asked the hat creator to meet her at a London hotel so he could show off his designs – and while he picked hats for her to wear, the 81-year-old screen star entertained him with songs and cocktails. Treacy explained: ‘We spent two evenings at her suite at The Dorchester hotel fitting them, looking in the mirror. She even sang a song for us and ordered us cocktails. She doesn’t need an excuse to buy that many, she invented celebrity extravagance.’

Chief executive Patrick Thomas told Reuters: ‘We are now breeding our own crocodiles on our own farms, mainly in Australia. The world is not full of crocodiles, except the stock exchange. ‘We cannot face demand. We have massive over-demand. We are limited by our ability to train new craftsmen.’

London Fashion Week: Louise Amstrup AW09

Danish born Louise Amstrup, showcased her third London Fashion Week show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout on Sunday, and having recently been selected to open the season’s Copenhagen Fashion Week with her AW09 collection, expectations were high. A series of strong silhouettes, including sharp shoulders and jutting hips created powerful shapes down the runway, emulating the hard-edged tailoring seen at Marc Jacobs and (dare I say it?) Victoria Beckham. Splashes of lemon yellow and burnt orange were compartmentalised against dark hues in black leather and heavy wool, creating an 80’s – yes you heard right, 80’s again – flash of leotards, leggings and oversized jackets which were softened by sheer panels and luscious, ragged frills.

Armani’s store opening attracts a star-studded clientele

Yesterday we showed you a sneak peek at Armani’s new megaflagship store, and it would seem we weren’t the only ones interested. The stars flocked to the store opening including Leonardo DiCaprio and Alicia Keys. But it wasn’t just the glitz and glamour that had people talking. Armani has announced that he is making a $1 million donation to The Fund for Public Schools in honour of his store opening. Armani made the announcement of this great act of philanthropy in a press conference with the Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the vice-chair of The Fund for Public Schools Caroline Kennedy and the Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. The money will support an Armani Arts Institute that will help arts programs in public schools across New York. Mayor Bloomberg also let slip that Armani had travelled on the subway in order to visit a school in the Bronx which his money would aid. We do like it when Armani plays nice. As for the party, it was very stylish. Victoria Beckham stole the limelight in a tiny Armani dress, that showed off her amazing pins. And it was nice to see that Peaches had bothered to brush her hair. But let’s be honest the only people we were looking at were Chace Crawford and Josh Hartnett, they are almost as yummy as those Armani chocolates. [Source, Images]

The Olsen’s become tailors

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have managed that virtually impossible goal, of being a celeb and creating a successful fashion line. But like other successful celebrities turned designers, such as Victoria Beckham and Gwen Stefani, it is thanks to their unique sense of style. It is of course also helped by distancing themselves from the brand, like Gwen, using a completely unrelated name has lured in unsuspecting fashionistas. And now, thanks to the huge success of The Row, the Olsen’s have decided to launch a menswear line. The name The Row is a perfect fit, as the twins named their brand after Savile Row, which is London’s premium tailoring street, it is therefore a perfect base for a men’s collection. Interestingly, they insist on all their garments being made in America, whilst most turn to Italy or Paris for premium or China for cost, they remain loyal to American industry. “That’s our thing , an American brand made in America. When we looked in the men’s market, we couldn’t really find basics you could wear with designer, explains Ashley. The collection will launch with basics including blazers and trousers, which if the womenswear collection is anything to go by will be wearable with an edge and The Olsens admit to seeking inspiration from other men’s designers such as Tom Ford and male icons like Brad Pitt. There are 35-items in the range, with price tags you would expect from a premium collection. A t-shirt will set you back $230, whilst a cashmere overcoat costs $3,200. The Olsen’s know style, that can’t be disputed, and whilst you may worry that they won’t be capable of tackling the tricky men’s market, having chosen a palette of neutrals suggests they know what they’re doing. But the Olsen’s aren’t the only child stars jumping on […]
