If you’ve been cut off from civilization for a week you’d be forgiven for thinking that the image above is of supermodel Naomi Campbell attending a premiere or a high profile event of some sort. It is in fact Naomi leaving New York’s Department of Sanitation after completing her five days of community service for throwing a mobile phone at her former housekeeper. Naomi, looking stunning in a metallic Dolce and Gabbana gown with stilettos, strutted her way into a silver Rolls Royce –while a fellow colleague also on community service – carried her bag, and took off to Elton John’s star studded 60th birthday party as photographers frantically snapped away. This spectacle rounded off five days of Naomi flaunting stylish outfits coupled with the best accessories around….but make no mistake her glam appearance was more than just displays of narcissism. She was photographed every day by renowned photographer Steven Klein and the images will serve as the basis of a further fashion shoot for W magazine in which a 20-page feature of Naomi rumoured to be clad in cleaning gear will run in its July issue. In addition the diva will be revealing all about her experience when she edits GQ in April. And if you’re inclined to think “What a mockery! well Naomi would like you to know that she’ll be auctioning off the work clothes which she wore inside the building and money made from the sale will go to the Nelson Mandela’s children’s charity. It’s a shame she won’t be donating all the cash she’s made from the experience too…. [Image:Think2wice]

Mini moguls and queens of the tweens, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have packed a lot into 20 years, achieving more success than most of us would hope to see in a lifetime. This week they were named the highest earning stars under the age of 21, beating Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame and Lindsay Lohan of, well, we’re not sure really. Of course it’s the paparazzi photos of the twins’ perfectly dishevelled hair and artfully mismatched designer accessories that seems to have got them noticed on this side of the pond – but personal style is not all they’ve been turning their hand to of late.

I’ve received a query from a reader in search of the dress below and I’d be very grateful if anyone could help out on this one. If you have any idea whom the designer is and possibly where the dress is stocked please leave a note in the comments section. Thanks! Hello, I am an avid reader of your site and I was hoping that you may be able to help me to find a dress that I have seen on a celebrity 5 weeks ago. It is a black and white floral that looks like a wrap, but may be tied in front from the back. Hard to explain, It is 3/4 sleeve which is has the same pattern of the dress but is sheer. The hemline, which goes to the mid calf, has an interesting black lace trim. I can send a photo if you can help. Thank you Anna

Style god Marc Jacobs brought the New York fashion elite to London last week when the opening of his Mount Street store coincided with his Marc by Marc Jacobs show at Claridges on Friday. Both events were fabulously cool and star-studded, and the Champagne flowed late into the night at The Connaught hotel, but now the hangovers have subsided it’s time to focus on the real matter at hand: The contents of Jacobs’ Mayfair boutique. The multicoloured flower-filled windows, reminiscent of Notting Hill Carnival floats promise something special within , and the interior don’t disappoint. The Stephen Jaklitsch-designed space is furnished with cool Christian Liagre furniture, and stocks all collections from menswear and kids to the top-end Marc Jacobs line. Handbags like the Speedy and Venetia will have fashionistas in a frenzy, whilst less affluent Marc fans can stock up on pieces exclusive to the store such as a quirky London taxi-print tee (£11) and two-tone wellies (£19) that will have us looking forward to rainy days , though don’t let these prices fool you into a false sense of security. A dress can still set you back a cool £1000 and more, so channelling Jacobs’ muse Sofia Coppola will have to be left to the real Mayfair ladies-who-lunch brigade. [Images:Vogue]

Manish Arora is a genius and don’t let anybody tell you different! Yesterday evening the catwalk shone with one of the most extravagant collections of the week so far. It was a complete colour fest from the wigs to the face paint! Black PVC tights were paired with most of the pieces in the collection which consisted of a large selection of various dress styles accompanied with jackets which took inspiration from the 1960’s and 70’s. Each piece was embellished with intricate designs that unashamedly clashed in colour. The show had reached its pinnacle when everyone gasped as the final model stepped to the centre of the catwalk in a triangular hooded jacket…..the best was truly saved for last!

You must know the drill…your mobile is ringing, it’s at the bottom of your bag, you frantically search for it amidst all the junk until you’re whipped into a mad frenzy and resort to chucking everything out! Finally managing to find the damn phone, you hit the answer button and the caller drops. This happens to me at least twice a week and if it’s never happened to you, welcome to my world! That’s why I love the genius of The Sophia from Alexandra Bee handbags. The interior is cleverly separated into individual pockets to hold all your gadgets, keys, wallet etc. The only disadvantage for me is that I walk around with at least 2 magazines and a notepad so not sure how that would work. But I do love it and it’s got to be the bag to organise the most disorganised. Made from Italian calfskin leather and available in two sizes small (approx. £205 / $345) or large (approx. £229 / $409) this bag not only comes in six different shades but nine designer fabrics too.

Over the past week we have seen some of the most exceptional designers of our generation allow their creative imaginations to run wild in honour of the very privileged few that can afford to spend on them – yes, it’s been Paris couture week, the most glamorous of them all, and I’ve had the lucky task of rounding up our favourite moments and creations for you. Our top three shows were Christian Dior, Armani Prive and Christian Lacroix, and here’s why: John Galliano for Christian Dior took a trip to 1920s Kyoto with a parade of red-lipped geishas gliding along in towering platform wedges and impossibly figure hugging skirts. The overall look was almost painterly with shades of cherry-blossom pink, oriental jade and a black that could have come directly from an ink pot , feminine and unashamedly sexy.
Read MoreThe “M” is coming….
This season has got to be the most overloaded in terms of high street collaborations, it feels like I’m constantly writing about one partnership or another and yet I’ve never purchased an item from any of them. I’ve never done the whole queuing for ages outside a store or getting on to e-bay to purchase left over stock. Neither have I made a purchase from a celebrity label, but that’s just because I’m irrationally snobbish about celebrity lines. I wonder if I’m one of the minority or the majority. Having said that if – that’s a big IF because it’s unlikely to ever happen – Johnny Depp teamed up with a high street retailer I’d be there sleeping outside the store a week before launch date. Just kidding….I’d only do that for the master that is Galliano! Anyway….back to the matter at hand…the first of the pictures from the campaign -shot by Steven Klein – for Madonna’s new line for H&M, “M” by Madonna has surfaced. What do guys think? For me it hasn’t exceeded my expectations, because I had none, but it isn’t disappointing either. I like the futuristic feel of the shot and the glasses aren’t too bad at all. [Image:Dlisted]

How much do I love the internet? Too much! Couture week officially began this morning with the presentation of Elie Saab’s collection “Goddess of the Dawn and already some of the pictures from the show have surfaced. The Godfather of bling displayed shimmering gowns, perfect for an award winning starlet and which were stunning to say the least. However there were some pieces which I just found a bit too tacky and personally I think they were better suited or should I say would have been at home at a collection from Versace (see below)
Read MoreThe Stylists Code
I’m a hoarder. I buy loads of magazines every month, flick through, then read them back to back a couple of months later and NEVER throw any away. Which is why I just read L’Wren’s Scott’s interview with Vogue back in November, only last weekend. Scott is so private that the interview lacked personality but she did manage to get in a couple of subtle jibes at Rachel Zoe, although of course she mentioned no names. Her main gripes were stylists who talk about their celebrity clients, style their clients in their image and who get ahead because of whom they know. On one hand she has a point; she holds the old school mentality or rather the stylists’ code of conduct that one should not outshine one’s clients, one which Zoe shows no knowledge of. But when it comes to Zoe I do sit on the fence, mainly because at a time when the lines are so blurred and you have celebrities becoming designers, and vice versa, the old school rules aren’t completely applicable anymore, and I can’t seem to fault her for taking advantage of the blur. Yes her tactics are tacky, and her work is not revolutionary – although she single-handedly spawned her own trend in 2006- but Zoe is a business woman and with all the projects she’s working on, you have to hand it to her, she’s also a hard worker whom I believe is a stylist that is a product of today’s society that says to get any recognition for your work you need to style a celebrity, you need publicity, you need to be known! Unveiling his new collection for Gap earlier this week, Roland Mouret demonstrated his ability to appeal to the mass market. His designs for the high street store maintained the simplicity which Gap is known for while adapting to the slouchy and baggy trend dominating this autumn/winter. However while the collection will appeal to most one can’t help but feel a little disappointed, rather than adding something new to the high street, he’s played it relatively safe and reproduced existing styles. To celebrate the launch of the collection, Grazia magazine will be holding an exclusive shopping evening at Gap on Thursday, November 9 at 6pm. The champagne fuelled evening will consist of a private audience with Mouret, a chance to purchase pieces from the collection, with a pre-booked stylist if you wish, as well as listen to style talks from the fashion editors at Grazia. Tickets are £10 from aloud.com

“I want to make shoes that are beautifully designed and finely made, but without an over the top price tag” If your feet are on the larger side, then you’ll know a thing or two about the difficulty in not only finding your shoe size (especially in the sales) let alone actually finding cute shoes which don’t look gigantic. Well lawyer turned footwear designer Angeline Tournier can relate and as a result of her frustrations set up Angeline Tournier London, specialising in designing and manufacturing footwear ranging from sizes EU36 right up to EU44 and which look great on big feet as well as small. Paris department store, Le Bon Marche exclusively bought Angeline’s debut collection and she’s just recently released her spring/summer 2006 collection…. What do you enjoy the most about your job? Four things 1) Working for myself, 2) fulfilling a lifelong dream to create shoes available in larger sizes, 3) being creative, 4) no longer being stuck in an over-air-conditioned office, wearing “formal” clothes and spending my time analysing and sorting out other people’s legal problems, and doing a job with little creative outlet. And like the least? Working for myself means I never get “time off”, I tend to work longer hours than before and I can not “get away” from work, even on week-ends and holidays. Can you tell us a bit about the design process involved in shoe design? The design process takes place over a number of months. I kind of visualise shoes or boots I’d like to wear myself, I sketch my initial ideas, sometimes I get inspiration from a trim off an item of clothing, a type of leather I see at a leather trade show or other totally unrelated topic. A few weeks before I need to submit my drawings […]

Full Name: Alistair Allan Occupation: Photographer and Designer for Bureau Conform The concept behind Catwalk City is great! We are so consumed by what celebrities’ wear that we forget to appreciate the fashion we see on a daily basis…what motivated you to start Catwalk City? Well, I know quite a few designers and a lot of their inspiration comes from people on the street, so I figured why not cut out the middle man and showcase the people that are influencing the designers. Do you photograph street fashion only in London and if so will you be branching out to other cities? I work primarily in London but I will be shooting in a few other cities in the coming months I have to work in Tokyo in November so I’ll get out onto the streets there and then I’m off to Cape Town a few weeks after that so you’ll get to see some fashion from there too. I am hoping to branch out into other cities in the future, but it will take a while to find the right photographers. How would you describe your style? That’s a tough one… a bit of a subtle hoxton-electro mix… you know the type, a bit of vintage and some H&M thrown in for good measure. Who is your favourite designer? I can’t pick one, because it changes on a daily basis… So at the moment I really like what Imitation Of Christ are doing and Basso Brooke for innovation, and Acne Jeans! Where do you like to shop? Urban Outfitters, the Illustrated People concession in TopMan, H&M (can’t beat a bargain!), Rokit and Ebay. On the odd occasion kokon to zai. A lot of designers still don’t have websites and don’t see the need, however the use of the internet […]
Read MoreArmando Cabral
Name: Armando Cabral Age: 23 Occupation: Model How and when were you discovered? It all started in 2001, when my older sister asked me if I wanted to go with her to her agency, in Portugal. I said “yes” lets go! When we got there, my sister introduced me to the board as her younger brother Armando, and one of them said you could be a model. I was really happy and I answered very shy, “I don’t know”. She said I will take a Polaroid of you and the next day they called, I went back, and they signed me straight away. I took a modelling course for a couple of weeks, which I thought was a waste of time, but now I don’t regret it at all. What was your first job? My first job was a catwalk show, I was very nervous and I remember at the time I was a very shy guy, but at the same time I was very happy knowing I was about to do something I enjoyed. It was actually a very good show, I was nervous during my first entrance, calm on my second, then I relaxed and it all went well. Which do you prefer catwalk shows or photo shoots? I like photo shoots as well as catwalk, but I personally prefer catwalk, because it’s much more exciting, knowing that a lot of people come out just to see you in nice clothes looking good, you know… And you get to meet a lot of important people who come and compliment you….it’s nice. But the best part of shows are the after parties! What 3 things couldn’t you live without? I have some many things that are important to me in my life that I couldn’t live without, but if […]

The high street’s climate of caution failed to take hold at Pure this week, as exhibitors at the Emap-owned show reported a confident and buoyant mood among buyers. Many of the 800 brands who showcased their S/S ’06 collections at the Olympia venue experienced an increase in business on previous seasons. Now in its eighth year Pure is the UK’s largest fashion and accessories event attracting high calibre buyers, with visitor figures increasing by 6% despite reports of a retail downturn. As Simon Rappley from Mint says; “Even at 4.50pm on the last day we’ve just taken another new order. Nowadays your’e only as talented as the amount of press you get whether good or bad, and Sienna Miller can vouch for this. The actress has been one of the most talked about celebrities in the past weeks and as a result has managed to land two roles in two major Hollywood movies. After being turned down for the part in Factory Girl as drug addict Edie Sedgwick, for not being famous enough in America, movie bosses have now changed their minds since reports of Jude’s cheating were all over the media. She has also been given the part of Queen Sparta in 300 which is based on the Battle of Thermopylae. Its definitely not the way Sienna would have preferred to get the part. According to the Mirror A source close to Sienna told a newspaper: “This is not the way Sienna would have liked to have won the role of Edie Sedgwick or a big action role. “But she is not going to kick a gift horse. Professionally speaking, being so badly treated by Jude is the best thing that’s happened to Sienna. “She always wanted the part of Edie but she simply wasn’t famous enough in the States. Now she’s deemed A-list famous. American movie producers don’t ask too many questions about why everyone’s writing about you. If you’re in the papers you’ve made the grade … and they want you.” Meanwhile Jude wants to have babies with her to demonstrate his commitment, we dont think children will be on the top of Sienna’s list.
Read MoreLindsay Lohan’s Weight Loss
How true this is, I can’t be sure, but it’s reported that Supermodel Kate Moss, best friend Sadie Frost and actress Lindsay Lohan enjoyed a weight loss weekend away together at an exclusive spa. If correct then I have to ask “What weight????” What’s happening to certain women in celebrity land is absolutely ridiculous. Nicole Richie is so skinny she looks as if she’s just about to break in two, Mary-Kate Olsen just looks ill and Lindsay Lohan has already collapsed. Whether due to her weight we don’t know, but either way it can’t be a good sign. Yes, there has always been pressure on Hollywood women to look thin, and we always seem to go through periods where anorexia is constantly talked about and suddenly all coverage of the illness dies down. But now it’s been all over the media for quite a while and most of all it’s very scary. Not only for the young girls who look up to these stars but for the stars themselves. Richie and Lohan are bearing the brunt of it, with Lohan receiving a petition signed by 12,500 of her fans asking her to fatten up and Richie having to constantly defend herself, deeming her sudden loss of weight to her regular workouts with her trainer. There is no doubt that these girls are working out but there is also no denying that they don’t look well. According to the Daily Mail, the hourglass figure is back in fashion. Let’s hope so!

Read MoreColeen; Vogue material?
The speed at which one can become a celebrity is amazing, and if anyone should know it would be Coleen McLoughlin. She has made the headlines almost every week for one thing or another and the most talked about stunt at the moment is her success at making the June cover of Vogue. All are debating whether she deserves it or not, how it will affect the magazines credibilty by having a “chav” on the cover, and most importantly will it sell? Well yes it will sell, simply because of everyone’s curiosity. I think it’s a clever move for Vogue in terms of sales but perhaps not for the future. She’s definitely no style/fashion icon, not a model or an actress. She doesnt sing, actually she doesnt work at all. Having Coleen on the cover will lessen the exclusivity of being a Vogue Cover girl but Vogue is no small time magazine, their every move is calculated and there is no doubt that they performed extensive research and concluded it’s what the people want. All I can say is that Victoria Beckham really should switch to Coleen’s pr agency cause they are doing an excellent job and although I do purchase Vogue every month anyway, I must say I am looking forward to June’s edition. I can’t wait to see how they will potray her. Miss McLoughlin should not be underestimated! Text: Michele Obi

I’ve always sat on the fence re the fur debate, I’ve seen both sides of the argument and haven’t really felt passionately about it enough to completely agree that fur should be banned. To be honest I think fur coats are beautiful, I’ve never worn one and probably wouldnt just because it’s not my style but I’ve admired it on others. That was till this morning, when upon checking the sites email I came across a comment from Daniel Miranda from Portugal re this post. She posted a video link regarding the whole J-Lo vs Peta issue thats been in the fashion news for the past couple of weeks. As curious as I am I entered the details into my address bar looking forward to the video and what I saw was so horrific and foul that I couldnt believe that for so long I’ve been ignorant about exactly how animals are killed in order to make these coats. The video really isnt for the faint hearted, it is unbelieveable and it has affected my opinion. I do believe J-Lo has had a hard time by peta recently and she has been singled out and made an example of by the organisation. I really like this comment… A new comment has been posted on your blog My Fashion Life, on entry #1034 (Learning from the Japanese). Name: Uncle C Email Address: gynuwine_article@hotmail.com URL: Comments: I will agree that far east asians have a unique and captivating sense of style, but to say that they are the best dressed in the world is an overstatement. What about the Italians, bella? An Italian once told me that even the poorest Italian dresses like a milionnaire! The French ‘mon amie’ are innovators in both fashion and hairstyling, for instance to give a hairstyle class, French braids sounds more credible than Japanese braids! No disrespect to Japanese braids, love y’all! Black people also have style that is envied worldwide and benchmarked upon. An article in the times had ‘From Milan, to Paris to Brixton’. (yes it’s true the Italians are very well dressed and extremely stylish however dressing like a millionaire doesnt make you the best dresser or the most fashionable. I will stick to the Japanese cause so far they are the only ones who I feel constantly push the barriers and demonstrate that you don’t have to spend a fortune to be fashionable. They experiment and sometimes they do get it wrong, but its the fact that they are not afraid to mix and match, which for me makes them the best dressers.) Read MoreThe Metrosexual Male
Last year, the coiner defined the term in its expanded form: “The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis — because that’s where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are.” I must say that I have noticed the change in males of recent. For me the metrosexual male is the straight man who is completely comfortable with his feminine side. The term has been embraced by at least one sports megastar. (A mere superstar is no longer a big deal, as top-billing inflation roars ahead; keep your eye on “gigastar.”) The celebrity most often associated with the word is David Beckham, the British soccer player. Beckham wears designer clothes off the field, has been seen in sarongs and nail polish and boasts a different hairstyle every week.
