So, you’ve got an hourglass figure, huh? Lucky you! This is one of the least common body shapes making it extremely sought after. And when it comes to famous hourglass figure icons, there’s no shortage of stunning examples. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren, who epitomized the classic hourglass shape and always dressed to impress. Fast forward to today, and we’ve got some more contemporary celebs flaunting their beautiful curves. Think Christina Hendricks, Dita Von Teese, Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, Salma Hayek, and Jennifer Lopez… Now we’re guessing you clicked on this article because you want to know how to dress for your body. And we also know dressing an hourglass can be a bit intimidating…That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you every step of the way! First we’ll start by identifying if you truly have an hourglass body or if you’re more of an inverted triangle (hey, both gorgeous shapes!) before diving into the styling tips and tricks you need to show off your upper body, cinch in that waist, and flaunt your feminine curves. Definition of the hourglass body shape An hourglass silhouette is all about curves in the right places, a fuller bust and hips, petite waist, plus wider shoulders for true symmetry. It’s common to mistake this shape for the inverted triangle or rectangle. How can you tell them apart? Easy! The key difference is the balance between the upper and lower body. An hourglass shape has equal proportions, while inverted triangles have wider shoulders and rectangles have less defined curves. How to tell if you have an hourglass figure If you want to be absolutely sure you’ve got an hourglass body shape, grab a measuring tape and note down your bust and hip measurements. […]

Read MoreKate Middleton vs Meghan Markle: Who wore Diane Von Furstenberg’s Zarita dress best?
The eagle-eyed fashion police have been quick to figure out that the Diane Von Furstenberg dress Kate Middleton wore last night to the Anna Freud National Centre charity gala held at Kensington Palace was seen on none other than our gal Meghan Markle back in 2012. Further cementing the fact that the sisters-in-law to be share a similar sense of style. While Meghan opted for a navy, shorter version of the elegant lace-sleeved “Zarita” dress, the Duchess of Cambridge recycled her more demure floor-length interpretation which she’s been pictured in twice already when pregnant with Princess Charlotte in 2014. If the decision as to whom wore it best was down to Meghan, we suspect she’d concede to Kate. Describing her look as somewhat of a fashion faux pas, while speaking with Glamour UK she said, “I was going to this event and there was this D.V.F. lace dress with a zipper up the back, and it was so fitted, and had tea-length sleeves. . . . I bought one in navy and black. It was too tight, and too short, and my hair was too polished, and everything about it was trying too hard.” Who do you think wore it best? Kate or Meghan? If you’re leaning more towards Meghan’s camp, you’ll be pleased to know her take on the Zarita dress is on sale over at MatchesFashion.com.

What better way to cement your return than on the cover of Vogue Australia? Model and actress, Gemma Ward graces the cover in Dior Couture and we think she looks fab. Celebrating it’s 55th anniversary, Vogue Australia is the fourth oldest in the world after it’s counterparts Vogue US, UK and France. In other mag cover news, are you loving the the December issue covers as much as we are? Kate Moss has not one but two for Vogue UK of which we prefer the simple shot of Kate wearing a named necklace. In contrast, Nicki Minaj is decadent and fierce on the cover of V Magazine. Like Kate, Nicki was photographed by Mario Testino and she certainly left an impression. Testino tweeted, “Nicki rocked us with her looks and her strength. She was comfortable in all situations.’I was amazed by her.” Shot by Steven Meisel, Carolyn Murphy looks every inch the supermodel for Vogue Italia while inspirational Carey Mulligan glows for Harpers Bazaar. It’s no secret that we love Diane Von Furstenberg. Not only is her latest book The Woman I Wanted to be a great read but she gives the best advice and let’s not forget she pretty much changed the landscape of fashion with her iconic wrap dress. Held at Claridges and hosted by Harper’s Bazaar in association with watchmakers Audemars Piguet, Estee Lauder and Selfridges, DVF was presented with the Fashion Icon award by fellow designer Victoria Beckham. New York Fashion Week continued to get bigger and better over the weekend, as more designers showed the lucky attendees – and the rest of the world – what they’ve been cooking up for the spring/summer 2015 season. The Diane von Furstenberg finale was probably the highlight of her show given that Naomi Campbell debuted the final look in the collection – talk about a fierce ending and going out with a bang! Although adorable little Harper was absent, Victoria Beckham’s loving husband and son Brooklyn were in the FROW to support her – and it’s a good job too as the show seemed to go flawlessly and her debut shoes seemed to go down pretty well too. We definitely think they’re her lucky charms! From the military inspiration at Victoria Beckham to the downright stunning red carpet worthy dresses at Monique Lhuillier, here are some of our highlights from NYFW over the weekend: Diane von Furstenberg Victoria Beckham Monique Lhuillier Alexander Wang

As November is edging closer and closer, more details of Diane von Furstenberg’s House of DVF reality TV show are coming out – and there’s nothing quite as exciting as a trailer, is there? The Diane von Furstenberg House of DVF trailer doesn’t actually give much away, and we have to admit that we’re still a little bit in the dark about what this ‘fashion reality series’ actually entails. Is she looking for her next top model or maybe even an intern? Who knows! However, we do see the designer herself making an appearance which is pretty exciting, and it looks like she is displaying a no-nonsense attitude which we bet will make for great viewing. “I have a feeling you are the bitch of the group,” Diane says in what appears to be a one on one with one of the girls. Ouch! We love it already and we’re not even sure what’s going on. Surely the sign of a great show! Check the trailer out for yourselves below and let us know what you think. Diane von Furstenberg’s House of DVF will premiere on E! in November – don’t forget to set the Sky +. http://youtu.be/DxDJ4Ut4HVE

We love autumn. We love the new trends that come with a new season and most of all we love updating our wardrobes. Any excuse! Here’s our top fashion fix pieces to pick up before winter rears its ugly head! THE WRAP AROUND DRESS Made famous by DVF, over at Bonmarche in-house designer David Emmanuel gives us his take on the inspirational classic and it’s a beauty. A simple golden rule of dressing well is to know your own shape and work with it, not against it. As the wonderful Gok Wan has proved to millions of ladies, there are lots of tricks to maximize your “good bits” and play down the less-so-pleasing. When it comes to looking good, it is not your actual size or shape that matters at all, it’s the cut and fit of the clothes you choose to complement your body proportions and colouring! In jewel block colours and various prints the erap around dress is flattering to just about any shape, which is why it’s a MUST in our wardrobe. The drape and softness of jersey is both snug as well as gently sculpting. With this dress falling around mid-calf, petite ladies might like to team with heels for work or a special occasion. THE PRINT DRESS Checks were much talked about in the upcoming autumn/winter collections and Bonmarche, as ever, are right on trend, with the David Emanuel Dogtooth print dress, another office or drinks party pleaser. This dress is sleeveless, so not ideal for anyone self-conscious about her arms. If you like to keep upper arms covered up, then the range of feminine lacy half sleeve tops is perfect for you. Team with metallic-stitch stretch style jeans for a casual smart combination. This will skim over the tummy area and create a fluid […]
Read MorePaloma Faith vs. Rita Ora…Who wore Diane von Furstenberg better?
In the battle of gorgeous gowns this week, we have the eccentrically charming and sartorially accomplished Paloma Faith, going head to head with Jay Z’s favourite protégée this side of the pond, Rita Ora. Both rocking a Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2013 sequined gown, there was some serious shimmering action to take in, and we weren’t about to let this fash-off slip from our style radar! Paloma Faith wowed at T in the Park last month, as she took to the stage in said dress. In true Paloma style, she adorned the look with an over-the-top floral headpiece and matching Steve Madden platform pumps. But beating the 30 Minute Love Affair singer to donning the Diane von Furstenberg beauty was Rita Ora, who debuted the look at the Brit Awards nominations announcement back in January. Pairing the gorgeous gown with nude pumps, a soft lip and a slick of crimson on the nails, she certainly nailed the look (pardon the pun!) Picking a winner sure isn’t an easy task, especially when both contenders look this great, but we had to settle on a favourite…and this week, we’re going with the crooner guilty of serious style, Paloma! The look-at-me headpiece, retro-inspired hairdo and sky high heels all add interest to the mono-coloured gown. Rita’s look, on the other hand, is a bit too tonal for our liking. What say you? Whose look was a winner for you?

Wow, American fashion glossies sure are loving their hot blondes at the moment, aren’t they? Yesterday we had Lauren Conrad posing pretty on the Marie Claire US July cover, and now it’s time to check out Elle US‘s offering, featuring sexy, booty-shaking songbird Shakira! Shakira was photographed by Carter Smith and styled by Joe Zee, and is wearing an edgy Versace tee with some chic Diane von Furstenberg shorts on the cover. Judging from her noticeably toned figure, you wouldn’t think that she had recently given birth would you? Shakira opens up about her hubby Gerard Pique, as well as what her new role as a mother is like. A great read! “I’m still trying to figure it out,” she said about motherhood. “And I have a feeling I will try to do the same for the rest of my life. Some people put it like it’s very idyllic, some people put it like it’s a torturing experience, but it’s not quite one thing or the other. It’s like life – it comes with everything.” Click here to read more of Shakira’s wise words and peek at more perfect pics.

You often get told not to pack your finest designer threads on your jollies for fear of them getting lost or ruined, but it doesn’t look like Beyonce has taken that advice. Not that she needs to, anyway. Beyonce was snapped looking relaxed and gorgeous on holiday in Cuba, wearing a cute little printed dress from Diane Von Furstenberg’s pre-fall 2012 collection. Check those (Sasha) fierce earrings out too – we love! We’re glad to see Mrs Carter let her hair down and enjoy some down time with her hubby. Figuratively speaking, of course; she is working that braided updo like a pro – if anyone’s going to convince us to attempt rocking that 90s hairstyle once again, Beyonce is the woman to do it. Do you like her laid back holiday style as much as we do?
Read MoreWhat do Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Diane Von Furstenberg all have in common?
…they’re all fairy tale princesses of course. Joining the ranks of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella comes the fairest fashion princess of them all – the lovely Diane Von Furstenberg. With two fashion fairy tales already under her belt (Mannolo Blahnik and the Tale of the Elves and the Shoemaker and Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty) author Camilla Morton has worked her magic on DVF with her latest book – Diane von Furstenberg and the Tale of The Empress’s New Clothes. The plot combines the designers’ history with Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes to make for a great story. DVF as a fairy tale princess isn’t so surprising as the designer is actually a real life princess – she met her Knight (or Prince rather) in shining armour in the form of German Prince Egon of Furstenberg at just 18 years of age and the rest as they say is history. It might be a bit late to gift as an xmas pressie but it’ll make a nice read over the holidays! [Style.com]
Read MoreGwyneth Paltrow pretty in pink for InStyle UK January
InStyle loves a bit of Gwyneth Paltrow, which is why the mag has decided to kick off the new year by putting the beautiful actress on its January 2013 cover. Gwyneth was interviewed by Diane von Furstenberg (a lot of legends in one place!) and it’s clear to see that she felt comfortable around her friend as she really opened up to her. Gwyn and Di covered a lot of areas during their chat, with some of the subject being Gwyneth’s desire for more babies, her diet, and hubby Chris Martin. “Probably our artistic temperaments together,” she said when asked about what the hardest thing about her marriage was. “Artists are sensitive; there are ups and downs, mood-wise. Musicians need a certain gravitas and focus in order to write. The temperament that goes with someone who is creative can be challenging.” They seem to make it work though! Not long to wait to read more of the interview and see more stunning pics, as the magazine is out tomorrow! Will you be buying the January issue?

Another mag cover you might have missed due to being swept up in London Fashion Week fever was Gwyneth Paltrow for the InStyle US October issue. And it’s quite a good’un! This isn’t just any old magazine cover though. Not only is Gwyn rocking a very daring purple Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit, but she’s being interviewed by the main woman herself. That’s right, DVF has turned interviewer! And what did she ask the 39-year-old actress you ask? We haven’t read the full interview yet, but one snippet we’ve seen suggests that the pair talked about Gwyn’s enviable body and the diet she follows to keep it so enviable. “I was very strict for a while,” she said. “I was macrobiotic for a couple of years, then I got pregnant and just ate ice cream. “What I’ve learned is I want to enjoy my life, and food is a big part of it. I love to cook and feed people. I cook every day. I indulge but I don’t like sweets. My indulging is a fresh baguette with cheese and a glass of red wine or French fries and fried zucchini. Or a turkey burger.” Forget body envy, we have food envy right now. Someone get us a fresh baguette with a glass of red pronto! (We know it’s 9:30 am…) Gwyneth Paltrow’s InStyle US issue is out on Friday, so grab it quick before it sells out!

The world is still buzzing after Diane von Furstenberg’s incredible New York Fashion Week show which brought technology and fashion together, but now there’s something else going on with the label too. DVF creative director Yvan Mispelaere has just announced that he’ll be stepping down from his post after two and a half years of working with the label. “I am so grateful for the contributions Yvan brought to DVF and fully support him as he takes the next step in his career,” Diane said. “Yvan joined us almost three years ago and has added enormous value. He also put together a highly skilled design team to support our growth both in fashion and accessories. “I am very thankful and proud of his accomplishments here and I look forward to our strong team continuing to create the signature DVF look for when everywhere.” And before we get a repeat of the “who will replace John Galliano at Dior” saga, it’s being reported that no one else will take the job, and the design team will be led by Diane herself. Technology and fashion have been working together rather seamlessly for years now, but Google has once again brought something new to the table – and at New York Fashion Week of all places! Tech-geeks might have already heard about the Google Glasses – a new headset that allows users to impose digital images on the world around them – but NYFW was the first time anyone outside of the Google family had experienced them. Diane von Furstenberg – a revolutionary in her own right – seemed like the perfect designer to test them out, as she used the glasses to not only showcase her new collection on the runway, but to also give users an insight into what goes on behind-the-scene too. “Today we’re thrilled to collaborate with the visionary and celebrated designer Diane von Furstenberg,” reads a press release from Google. “For the past week, we’ve been using Glass to capture the DVF creative process from entirely new perspectives. Soon you’ll get a glimpse into what it’s like to design, prepare and experience the DVF show at New York Fashion Week through Diane’s eyes and a few other views.” A short film entitled DVF through Glass will be released on Thursday September 13th on the DVF Google+ page as well as Google’s YouTube channel. There’s no word on when the glasses will be available to the public, but would you guys even wear them? What do you think of their appearance? Star Trek springs to mind if you ask us…

You instantly know what Fashion Month is going to be like after the first few shows of New York Fashion Week, and judging by what we’ve already seen in the Big Apple, we’re going to be in for a real treat this September! We’ve been monitoring NYFW very closely from the moment the first model stepped onto the catwalk, and already have our favourites from the likes of Jason Wu, Altuzarra, DKNY and Victoria Beckham among others. Jason Wu’s outing also went down a storm, as the designer incorporated elegant materials with tougher edgier ones, achieving full-on contrasting looks. One of our faves for sure… kind of like 50 Shades of Grey meets Downton Abbey? And we assume we weren’t the only ones really looking forward to Victoria Beckham’s new line since – judging by last season – every big name celeb will probably be stepping out in one of her creations at least once this year! We were really keen on seeing award-winning Altuzarra showcase his spring/summer 2013 collection too, and we can definitely see why he was victorious. You may remember that we’re mildly obsessed with Awards Season, so are always on the look-out for ultra-glam dresses for the occasion. This season, we got our first taste of red carpet glamour from Monique Lhuillier (standard!) as she gave her evening dresses an aquatic theme. Simply gorgeous! DKNY gave us another instantly wearable collection with a range of standalone pieces and sexy separates for when you want to mix it up, while Diane von Furstenberg presented gorgeous, flattering, empowering pieces If we had the funds, we would shop our entire holiday wardrobe from DVF! Stay tuned for more coverage tomorrow! What has been your favourite look/collection so far?
Read MoreArizona Muse poses for Diane von Furstenberg’s autumn/winter 2012 ads
Just in case you hadn’t worked it out from the rather, er, ‘subtle’ lettering, the ad campaign above is indeed for the one and only Diane von Furstenberg! Remember DVF’s surreal spring/summer 2012 ad campaign images that had no faces in them so we could imagine ourselves in the clothes instead of the models? Well, although the autumn/winter 2012 ones sadly don’t have a mirror on them (boo), we think there’s something still quite surreal about them, don’t you? And to be honest, we think we’d rather look at Arizona Muse’s lovely face as opposed to our own, so everything worked out for the best in the end! The ad campaign was photographed by Camilla Akrans, and was apparently shot in an abandoned air strip, which we think is pretty interesting. Definitely mixes things up a bit! Click here to see more pics of Arizona doing her thing, and to get a cheeky behind the scenes look at the gorgeous model at work. [Fashion Etc]

We all tuned in to watch the Andy Murray/Roger Federer Wimbledon Men’s Final yesterday afternoon, although we have to admit that we enjoyed the cheeky glimpses of all the famous faces in the audience just as much as the nail-biting match itself. Kate Middleton looked elegant as always, even despite the weather and the tense game! The Duchess of Cambridge wowed in a white Joseph crepe dress and matching jacket, which she teamed with her Diane Von Furstenberg printed clutch to jazz up her otherwise plain ensemble. Not one to be outdone, Pippa Middleton also looked the part as she sat next to her sister in a blue, printed Project D dress with very on-trend peplum detailing. Which Middleton look do you guys prefer? Ps: we’d just like to say a huge “well done!” to Andy who, despite missing out on the trophy, still did us proud!

Read MoreGet the Look: Rita Ora in Hussein Chalayan
Rita Ora first hit the MFL when she turned up at the Vivienne Westwood Red Label show at London Fashion Week looking super-cool in a tailored blue-grey trouser suit, red lippie and shades. Since then her retro-fabulous style has been catching our eye all over the place; from the Brit Awards to her evenings in London. Being Jay-Z’s latest protégée does nothing to harm her street cred, but we think her style merits its own respect. Appearing at the NME Awards, Rita looked like a vision in white wearing a Hussein Chalayan trouser suit from the designer’s S/S 12 collection. She paired the masculine-inspired look with a spiked Christian Louboutin ‘Marquise’ Python Clutch and a gorgeous pair of nude B Brian Atwood ‘Bambola’ pumps. She might have looked a million bucks but, thankfully, we have tracked down pieces which will let you get the look for less. 1. Calling Apollo Jacket:This draped jacket from French Connection is the epitome of laid-back chic… £172, available at French Connection. 2. Farhi by Nicole Farhi White Stretch Trousers: These Nicole Farhi are a perfect summer staple and look just as good in the evening as in the day…£135, available at my-wardrobe. 3. Diane Von Furstenberg Harper Clutch: Rock up the look with this Diane Von Furstenberg clutch. We love the metal hardware and tassel details… £355, available at Matches.
Read MoreReturn of the Culotte!
Before embracing a revival of the 90’s culotte trend, we want you to remove all Brownie Guide uniform connotations from your mind. Yes, the culotte has been a form of uniform, even for schools, in the past, but its spring/summer 2012 revival made sure it was far from being tucked away under the school desk. Culottes made a serious comeback for the new season, spotted in striking blue and tangerine at Acne; with an athletic edge at Phillip Lim in the form of culotte shorts , whilst Jaeger London also flirted with the skirt- trouser go-between Although slighlty intimidating at first sight, thanks to the wide hem and voluminous feel; culottes are the new season power buy, and can even be worn as two distinguishable looks – a super wide-leg trouser, or culotte. Keep it fresh and wear the culotte in more ways than one. Its versatility in terms of shape allows you to embrace more than one look, and ankle-grazing, knee length or full length culottes look equally on trend. We’ve picked out snap-up culotte buys that will definitely keep your fashion friends guessing whether it’s a skirt, short or trouser day. Create your own underwater odyssey with this season’s oceanic obsessions. Thanks to certain designers championing all things sea life, spring summer 2012 offered super-desirable, and highly wearable underwater inspired creations. Think Ariel Mermaid metallic, bright Nemo references and even the deep sea ice coolness of Jaws, as designers including Mary Katrantzou, Chanel and Versace introduced us to the fashion above sea-level. The conch shell clutch and fish gill-like qualities at Chanel had us dizzy, while Mary Katrantzou’s pixelated fish swimming across taffeta cocktail dresses made us want to dive into the delectable digi-prints. Stella McCartney’s ocean wave-edged printed jackets and slip dresses made us want to unashamedly surf on our aquatic high. Get on the trend surfboard with our top water world picks. Read MoreStyle Rescue: Is Emeli Sande stuck in a safe style rut?
OK, we get it. Emeli Sandé has an unbreakable bond with dark clothes, and quite frankly, we’re here to destroy the peace. Oh, how we love this uber-talented, mohawk sporting songstress. Her vocals are magical and her superstar singer status was further cemented by landing the Critics Choice Award at this year’s BRIT Awards. Although the Heaven singer didn’t appear on stage to collect her impressive accolade, she made a rather unimpressive red carpet appearance in a drab, collared monochrome dress. Now cast your mind back to this year’s ELLE Style Awards and you will recall a rather criminally underdressed Emeli, again in a dull dress. Once is a mistake; twice is a sartorial crime! We’ve latched on to Emeli’s basic dress demands: full sleeved, knee length, no plunging necklines and subdued hues. We’re willing to let her carry on with the first three, but the subdued hues are a definite no-no. For such high prolife, fashion-centric events we expected Emeli to pull out all the ‘notice me’ stops – we know her amazing hair turns heads all by itself– as the dress is really what it’s all about. So we’ve done the honours of banishing Emeli’s boring dress choices by replacing them with three dresses from go-to online shopping destination, Matches – all of which she would approve, of course. Celeb life isn’t a Tim Burton movie, after all, and nor should your wardrobe be, Emeli! Diane Von Furstenberg Blaire Dress, £395, available at Matches The Blaire dress boasts all the elements Emeli looks for in a dress: full sleeves, high neckline and a demure knee length hem. Even better that it comes in a season-appropriate pastel green and has a detachable waist-tie for better shape. Jonathan Saunders Avery Dress, £1,105, available at Matches We’ve reluctantly let Emeli wander back into noir territory with this black dress, but Jonathan […]

Forever mesmerised by older sister Beyonce’s otherworldly vocals, electric concerts and extravagant ninety-minute Oxford Street spending sprees, its high time we sat up and took notice of the waves younger sister Solange is making. Already a fashion frontrunner, FROW-ing at major international fashion shows and a super-successful DJ; Solange is clearly not one to live in her sister’s shadow. A frequenter on our best dressed radar; we’re not too interested in her rather impressive afro, or her sibling squabbles with mega star sister Bey over who looks the best in Louboutin’s latest offerings (yes, even super famous siblings argue!), but more her quirky take on fashion and how she always turns out looking incredibly stylish and unpredictably fresh. In honour of Solange’s delicious wardrobe and knack for pairing together the most unpredictable of fashion trends to make them look like they were meant to be, we’ve selected the best finds to achieve her style. Although, we can’t offer a superstar, mega rich sister or brother-in-law in our style edit, we can promise an enviable wardrobe that may just end up scoring you a FROW ticket. Boutique ice cream is the stuff dreams are made of. But then again, so is the neon pink Lytton leather clutch from Diane Von Furstenberg. Although we’re being bombarded from every angle with the latest inspirations for next season, believe it or not, we still have a summer, and a summer wardrobe to get through. And, even though ice cream fits in well with summer temperatures, and, of course, with this season’s colour palette, we’re willing to give up this luxury for a satiating splash of neon. Banish the cold stuff to the supermarket freezer in favour of this party-perfect investment, in all its silver-tone signature twig clasp and detachable chain shoulder strap glory. So we’ve covered the apple and rectangle body shapes. Now on to the pear. Pear-shaped girls should try and draw attention to their top half. Bikinis with plain bottoms and patterned tops are ideal.
