Your Top Five: Red Lipsticks, well February is the month of romance!

Roses on Valentine’s Day, the carpet at the Bafta’s and the new Choos that I really really really want! To get us through this bitter, cold winter, London seems to have taken the colour of heat , red and coated everything in it! Red lips are no exception, with the likes of Dita Von Tesse and Christina Aguilera leading the way! But with sooo many brands to choose from, how do you know which lipstick is red for you? In true fashion victim style, I’ve trawled through dozens of lippies and come up with the top five!! 5. Starting at no 5 and the cheapest at £4.49 is Lipstick in Russian Red, £12.50. This vibrant colour is a catwalk number, and will make sure that you’re spotted a mile away! But be careful of smudging! 3. Enviro-friendly and a moisturiser, Ultimate Lipstick Duo in 13 Sophia, £13 is a vibrant red on one end and a combo moisturiser/primer on the other! Use the base coat to get sheer colour, or just the colour alone for an intense red! 1. All that glitters is not gold , this final lipstick certainly doesn’t glitter, but it does land a well deserved gold! Giorgio Armani’s Rouge d’Armani in 14 rouge 400, £22, is a sure winner with it’s Color Bond technology, giving lips a softer feel and fuller finish. And lasting power? Mine survived kisses, wine glasses and cups of tea right the way through the day.

Lunchtime buy: Victoria Beckham Denim leggings

After the success of Victoria Beckham’s dress collections, we were very excited to hear about the new Victoria Beckham Denim range that hit Net a Porter and selected stores this Wednesday. Similiarly to her previous fashion ventures, this collection features fine tailoring and recognisable VB figure hugging fabrics. We’re not normally huge legging enthusiasts here at My Fashion Life but this striking pair have really taken our fancy. The version of sophisticated ‘jeggings’ (sorry, we can’t believe we just compounded a word either) includes black stretch calf panels and a little ‘V’ panel at the back. Nice touch. Get yours now for £180 at Net a Porter. If you’re not a fan of the Denim collection, then keep an eye out for Victoria Beckham’s range of sunglasses due to hit Net a Porter very soon…

London Fashion Week SS10: Betty Jackson

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but shoulders are in. And they will remain ‘in’ right through Spring Summer 2010 as well, Betty Jackson will make sure of it. Betty Jackson’s clothes always have her fingerprint clearly marked. You would know you were at a Betty Jackson show, but this is not a criticism. For if you love girlish charm, floral prints and strong silhouettes then you will adore Betty Jackson. This season saw a geek chic feel with big side parted hair, coloured pop socks and oversized glasses. It was eclectic playing with prints, textures and layers, and it was bright and breezy. The colour scheme of mint greens, ballet pinks and mustards worked well although the apricot and silver lame phase was a surprise. The knickerbockers were super sweet, and the short suit was lovely. Ruffles were the key detail and acted like mini ruffs and bustles. The squared off shoulders were a nice touch and the shoes were divine. Overall it was a very nice, very pretty collection, that had some great pieces. It might not have you grabbing for your credit card. But it is a show that may inspire you into working that vintage, geek-esque look. If you’re looking to invest make sure it’s in a shoulder piece as these were the strongest. Time to grab those shoulder pads ladies.

Five of the best: Sequin jackets

Gone are the days when sequin jackets were only associated with bingo callers, Elvis impersonators and holiday park entertainers. Pick a good one and it really doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a comfy t-shirt and boyfriend-cut blazer is big this season and the same applies to sequin blazers. Think Miami Vice, with sparkles on. Then there are textured, vintage style jackets for that world-traveller, just-got-off-the-plane-from-Monte-Carlo-darling vibe. Just add smoky eye shadow and a pout. Choose the cut, colour and size of the sequins wisely and you could have yourself one of those wardrobe treasures that will become threadbare before you get tired of wearing it.

Pieces that I design are only of the best quality.” Despite his hatred of diamond-laden jewellery, Pharrell does like some aspects of hip-hop style.

Steep vs Cheap: Ray-Ban or Topshop?

The only problem is that you have to decide upon a style, my favourite will always be the wayfarer. A style that seems season-less. Seen year after year on our favourite celebs, already this season they have been spotted on the faces of Alexa Chung, Lindsey Lohan and Chloe Sevigny. The brand that made them famous of course is Ray Ban and the above are fabulous.

It’s over folks. Anna Wintour’s 60 minutes is up!

Seriously, how can you not respect Anna Wintour? Notice, I refrained from using the word, “love. If there’s anything we can take away from her 60 minutes with Morley Safer, it’s that Anna is not lovable nor does she wish to be known as such. Anna is the ultimate professional. She’s calm collected and very cool….possibly a little too cool. As Morley puts it, in the media, “She’s been portrayed as Darthvader in a frock or as harshly as nuclear Wintour. Or is she really just peaches and cream with a touch of arsenic? Hilarious. I personally loved this interview. Not because it was particularly revealing, because it wasn’t. Not because of the portrayal of the fashion industry, because yet again the “Devil wears Prada stereotype was reinforced. But, mainly because it was great to hear “the most powerful woman in fashion address the rumours that surround her mysterious persona.

Beauty Road Test: M.A.C Just Dessert Lipglass

What: The Sugarsweet range from M.A.C. On the face of it, it’s a pretty bold collection. Lipsticks, eye shadows, shadesticks, nail varnishes and mineralised skin finishes (metallic blusher to you and me) are all inspired by the frosted shades and vivid colours of cakes. Yum, yum. Most intriguing is the range of five, tricolour lipglasses. Once the urge to consume sugared almonds and cupcakes had been suppressed, we road tested one to see how it worked. The Product: Just Dessert is probably the tamest of colour combinations in the range. No blues or deep oranges here. A layer of pearly Barbie pink gives way to a warm metallic pink shot with gold followed by icy metallic pink on top. It won’t break the bank at £12.72 for 5ml.
