Lunchtime buy: Worn Free Debbie Harry ‘Camp Funtime’ t-shirt
For those of you across the pond, you might already be familiar with the California-based clothing company Worn Free, so for the Brits among us, I introduce you to the much sought-after t-shirt brand that launched in the UK just last month. Worn Free reproduces vintage t-shirts as worn by legends of the past. Each logo tee comes with a ‘backstage pass’ tag, with a photograph of your chosen icon in their version of your purchased item, telling you the date and location it was worn. From the recognisable ‘Cassius Clay’ logo as worn by Muhammad Ali and John Lennon’s ‘Working Class Hero’ shirt to tees inspired by Elvis and Dee Dee Ramone, each has a nostalgic story to tell. With Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of a certain female rocker in the upcoming Runaways, we predict that the Joan Jett tees will prove a popular option over coming months. Our pick from the lot though (and it was a tough choice – there’s an extensive selection!) is the ‘Camp Funtime’ t-shirt as worn by rock icon, Debbie Harry back in 1977. It seems we’re not the only fans either, as Mischa Barton has been spotted in the very same design. Join the celebrity fans of Worn Free (including the likes of Ellen Page, Jennifer Aniston and Naomi Campbell) and indulge in a bit of comfortable, vintage cool. T-shirts are available in a range of sizes and colours, and are made from 100% cotton. £31.22/$49.95 from Worn Free.

Teen supermodels Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman feature in a double whammy cover shoot for Teen Vogue’s November issue. In a rare shoot, the two young teens appear on the fashion magazine’s cover together; surprising when there has been much speculation about the pair’s rocky relationship. Regarding competition, Jourdan told Teen Vogue. “There aren’t a lot of us, but instead of sticking together, we’re pitted against each other. People will say things in Chanel’s ear like, ‘Jourdan is taking your spot’, and then they’ll say to me, ‘Don’t trust Chanel’. The problem they face? There’s only room for one black girl. ‘You’re being told, ‘So and so is only booking one black girl. It’s either you or Jourdan, said Chanel. The girls, however, are making history as two of the most successful black women in the industry. Not since Naomi Campbell has a black model generated so much intrigue as Chanel, who landed her first Vogue cover at 16 and is currently one of the youngest Victoria’s Secret models in the label’s history at 18. Clearly her pose-practising as a child paid off. 19-year-old London-born Jourdan, meanwhile, made history in her own right by walking the runway at Prada, the first black model to walk a Prada show since Naomi Campbell 10 years ago, might we add, as well as winning 2008’s Model of the Year award. Thankfully, the fashion world is beginning to diversify and the two teen supers have united. “The only way to improve the situation is to come together, said Chanel. At least they’ve got their heads screwed on. The November issue of Teen Vogue hits newsstands on October 13th.

Referring to fellow supermodel Claudia Schiffer, Eva said: “Everyone around me is doing things and – probably because I see their faces before and after – it is very scary looking, it’s not attractive. Claudia doesn’t do anything. She’s a friend, and she looks beautiful, she looks natural. “Whatever is being done out there is not attractive enough for me to go and run to have it done. If you haven’t heard Alaia wasn’t happy that his clothes weren’t in “The Model As Muse exhibition, so he took back seven dresses that starlets were planning on wearing. Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour and Linda Evangelista then didn’t turn up in protest. Alaia has been quite vocal about his anger. Curator of the exhibition Harold Koda has claimed that Alaia wasn’t informed or invited to the Ball. Koda explained to WWD that they pretty much wanted Alaia from the beginning. And that a mutual friend asked Alaia if he felt comfortable to see his work displayed. Alaia reportedly said he wasn’t and so they chose not to pursue the matter further. Koda further added: “We would have loved to have had his pieces in the show, but there was a lot of miscommunication, my understanding was that he didn’t want his work in the show, so I honored it.

But in a weird turn, in fact a diva moment, Alaia has chosen to blame Anna Wintour. He feels Anna Wintour has snubbed his work and this has influenced Koda’s decision: “She behaves like a dictator and everyone is terrified of her…but I’m not scared of her or anyone said Alaia. Honestly, they are one step away from name-calling….

Shwopping: The way of the future?
Shop without leaving the house or spending a cent? Trade in those old Manolo Blahniks for a Chanel bag? Are the fashion gods finally thanking us for our voracious shopping habits or are they playing a ‘too good to be true’ trick on us? The concept of ‘shwopping’ is just starting to hit the web by storm. Similar to those clothing swap parties that have been going on with girlfriends around the world for some time, shwopping lets us strategically get rid of unwanted clothing and accessories while getting something that we would actually wear in return. This new method of shopping supports the eco-friendly and cost-conscious, while creating a bigger market for unique and hard to find garments.

If you’ve been cut off from civilization for a week you’d be forgiven for thinking that the image above is of supermodel Naomi Campbell attending a premiere or a high profile event of some sort. It is in fact Naomi leaving New York’s Department of Sanitation after completing her five days of community service for throwing a mobile phone at her former housekeeper. Naomi, looking stunning in a metallic Dolce and Gabbana gown with stilettos, strutted her way into a silver Rolls Royce –while a fellow colleague also on community service – carried her bag, and took off to Elton John’s star studded 60th birthday party as photographers frantically snapped away. This spectacle rounded off five days of Naomi flaunting stylish outfits coupled with the best accessories around….but make no mistake her glam appearance was more than just displays of narcissism. She was photographed every day by renowned photographer Steven Klein and the images will serve as the basis of a further fashion shoot for W magazine in which a 20-page feature of Naomi rumoured to be clad in cleaning gear will run in its July issue. In addition the diva will be revealing all about her experience when she edits GQ in April. And if you’re inclined to think “What a mockery! well Naomi would like you to know that she’ll be auctioning off the work clothes which she wore inside the building and money made from the sale will go to the Nelson Mandela’s children’s charity. It’s a shame she won’t be donating all the cash she’s made from the experience too…. [Image:Think2wice]

Read MoreDeath of the model – Birth of the Celeb
This is so true. Celebrities have taken over where the supermodel left off. These days most celebs want to be fashion icons, for once you are an icon you can now bring out a label. I wouldnt be suprised if this is the next step for Victoria Beckham. I remember when most issues of Vogue or Elle had Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss etc on the front cover. Now even I look forward to which female celeb rather than model will grace their covers. During the supermodel era, “actresses wore clothes and supermodels wore fashion,” says Singer. “At that time, actresses thought it would damage credibility if they were seen as fashion plates.” But this generation of actresses grew up in fashion-centric times, and they’ve “come of age thinking that a love of fashion and seriousness about craft are not incompatible.” I can’t decide whether I’m for or against the celebrity fashion icon. I see the pros and cons but I do know that I miss the supermodel era. If you asked somebody in the late eighties/early nineties to name a model they would say the name of a current model without hesitation. Now not that many have a clue.

In a week that gave us great looks, some no so great ones crept onto the red carpet, too. The offender in question: Imogen Poots in Louis Vuitton at the New York screening of her latest movie, That Awkward Moment. The actress opted for a top-to-toe look for the spring 2014 collection, including an embellished LBD with cut-out waist detail, and tights covered in Stephen Sprouse-style graffiti. Although the runway look featured a halter dress, Imogen opted for a deep scoop neck style, rounding off her look with platform sandals and a rather peculiar hair do… Make-up was kept simple, accentuated only by heavily kohled eyes and a slick of black nail colour, which lent to a grungy feel. As for the hair, we’re not too sure what Imogen’s styling team had in mind! The intentionally messy down-do looks a little too unkempt for our liking and those bangs aren’t doing any favours to neaten up the look, either. This outfit could certainly have done without the footless tights, and a more refined hairstyle would’ve complemented the dress’s ornate, evening feel. What do you think? Does this look work? [Image]
